I don't see Vegas being anywhere near what it was like before again

I've been saying it for years..Vegas should've diversified its economy. They could've gotten more tech companies or medical research firms there.

If they became known as more than just tourism it would be a great selling point for the city. They kind of doubled down on the convention and night club business which brings in a lot of revenue but is vulnerable in a recession

The recession wasn't the tipping point to make that economic transition and this won't be either. The truth is the people running the state and the city are just not that smart. Business is focused on one thing...the casinos did diversify years ago and, even though nothing helps in a situation like this, the "profit pie" looks much different now than 15 years ago with the addition of revenue streams for high-end dining and clubbing plus the resort and parking fees.

The rest of the state is saddled with an educational system that was #50 in the nation, healthcare in the bottom five for all states and a state government that is completely inept ranging from getting an unemployment check out to the DMV. Throw in a questionable police force and corruption in the visitors bureau and the state's infrastructure can barely function day-to-day let alone be pro-active.

There's no re-invention if we don't have any capable inventors.

Have you been down to the Strip lately? Has the Vibe changed at all in a positive way? Increased police presence?

We stayed at the Cosmo Mon/Tue...that isn't a good representation for those days plus it was pretty empty. I can say there weren't any reported incidents last weekend and there has been a lot of local news reports about increased police presence. I'm telling my friends it is fine to stay on the strip, but don't walk the strip at night. FYI...we rarely go to the strip on a weekend anyway except for a concert.

Thx Bob. Appreciate the updates from a guy with boots on the ground.

This just in. Electricity was out at Paris last night...a few people had to be rescued, but none had injuries. The report today is that the lights went out because "rodents" had done destruction in the electrical rooms. Rodents apparently were taking advantage of lower room rates.

Stayed at the South Point the weekend of October 10th. Everything the same except that tables/chairs are more spaced out and everyone has to wear a mask. The mask police are there to make sure everyone is wearing a mask including in between sips of your drinks.

Quite a few people there. About 2/3rds the number of a normal fall weekend. Bars open. Restaurants all open. Movie theater open. All was good except the mask police.

Depends on the neighborhood really. Summerlin and Green Valley are still really nice. There has always been a rotating cast of transients in other areas. The SW part near the Orleans and Spanish Trail used to be nice but has gotten rough the last few years.

Never really felt comfortable going to the east side near the Westgate or Maryland pkwy. near UNLV for some reason

I've stayed at the Orleans a few times over the years. That stretch off Tropicana from Wild Wild West to the Orleans is black hooker lane. Don't think I've ever been down that road without seeing a few out. At all hours of the day.

Last time I was there was about 3 years ago. Stayed on a Sunday and Monday night. The element that showed up for the Monday Night Football game in the book was an interesting one to say the least..
