i dont know where you cut/pasted that from. but it is true. you dont know what its like in the south
i live in middle TN, to my south i have Alabama - a legendary football program. to my north Kentucky - a legendary basketball program. i refuse to believe that a Oregon / Oregon state game has this kind of passion. does a Arizona/ Arizona st game even get televised? national TV is more likley to show LSU/Arkansas than UCLA/USC. west coast football is still in its infancy. i read someplace that UT has almost as many wins as Oregon has games played
to put it in perspective...you guys comparing Oregons and TN football program would be like me comparing UT and Arizona in hoops. i mean UT has been higher ranked and won more games since 2000, but who cares. UT basketball will never be what UCLA or Arizona have been. sure Arizona had a down year but they are still on a different level than most SEC schools because of the years of success. you go nationally to chicago, dallas, etc and ask a recruit about UT or Zona hopes - they innately have more love for Zona. same scenario with UT vs Oregon in football.
the only difference is that im able to see this, and accept it, and you pac-10 guys are not
(if Bruce Pearl is reading..i didnt mean a word of it!)
What we see is that you don't even have your facts straight and you constantly ignore inconvenient facts that contradict you.
It's fair though to call Oregon an "upstart" program compared to Tennessee because only recently has Oregon been a part of the NC picture (but the program itself is ancient,) but nevertheless, Tennessee is an upstart program compared to California and Stanford. Tennessee won their first NC about 20 years after Cal won 3 in a row in the early 20s.
But as far as Oregon goes, all of this is irrelevant because Oregon's football program under Mike Bellotti has developed and surpassed or at least caught up to many of the teams you consider hallowed football institutions. They produce better and they play better. As inconvenient as it is, stats prove it whether or not you are willing to see it. But you go right ahead and hang yourself on the glorious past, like Fulmer 10 years ago. Meanwhile Oregon has outperformed the Vols. Compared to UT, Oregon's level of play matters more because it is recent. But until they beat you in your own house and prove to you just how good they are, you will continue to be ignorant... so be it. 2010 is drawing closer.
I agree that Oregon's football program is not as established as most of the SEC schools. I've never argued differently. Oregon's "championship caliber" football program is relatively new by comparison. Your problem is that you cannot accept that Oregon's football program has developed at warp speed over the last 20 years. Either you will move over and accept it or they will make you do it. September, 2010.
Let's compare the Pac-10 to the SEC. These are the facts, not impressions.
Pop Quizz...
Which of the following 4 teams was the first to win 3 college football national championships?
A. California
B. Notre Dame
C. Alabama
D. Michigan
Answer:
Michigan won 2 championships in 1901 & 1902. Notre Dame won its first in 1924, Alabama it's first in 1925. California was the first of these to win 3. 1920, 1921 & 1922.
Trivia:... Cal was the first major school to "threepeat." Prior to Cal, some Ivy League schools managed to pull it off.
USC didn't win a NC until 1928. Stanford beat them to it winning the NC in 1926. Tennessee finally caught up to the west coast schools by winning its first NC in 1938. Ferris, your facts are screwed and you don't really know what you think you know.
Alabama is the only SEC school with a football program that has been in existence for as long as 3 of the established Pac-10 schools' football programs, at least in terms of fielding a championship team. USC, California & Stanford predate every other SEC school as far as fielding a championship caliber football program goes.
Now here's something interesting for you....
I wrote every word of that "C & P from somewhere." None of it was C & P and you don't think I know anything about football in the south or how you guys think? I wrote it, and you swallowed it hook line and sinker. I wrote it just to be facetious but you bought it as if it was real.
Fuck, I am truly amazed by your ignorance! You even convinced yourself that I copied it to prove to yourself that I didn't understand any of it when actually I wrote it. How then can I not understand it? Truly! I see something you don't see and that's your sheer arrogance. I was deliberatly being facetious when I wrote that. But to you, it had a ring of truth to it. Unbelievable. God's football conference? You buy that? Amazing. I was being sarcastic and you ate it right up! I got news for you. It isn't me who doesn't understand where you are at, it's you that doesn't understand anyone else! No wonder you talk like such an asshole. You really think everyone is stupid because only you truly understand football "God's way! The only way!" The chosen ones. Fuck, it just doesn't get any sicker than that!
All I was doing was proving to you that I already know where you are coming from with regards to us naieve "west coasters." I even made your arguments better than you could have done it yourself. I was tongue in cheek. Not even close to serious. I was mimmicking something that was completely pompous and absurd.
I was being sarcastic and facetious just to throw your own shit back at you. You couldn't even tell. That's pretty blind to what's really happening dude. This is blowing my mind. How can anyone be that dumb and believe all of that was real? Fuck! You just don't get it do you? Everyone's the same all over the country but different. Get it? Probably not.
Has the SEC been what it is since the inception of the game? Oh it hasn't? How so? You mean it's actually changed over the years? IMPOSSIBLE! Why, everyone knows UCLA was all powerful in hoops since the beginning of time (which happened just before John Wooden was born.) Arizona too.Always was, always will be a basketball school and nothing more.
Well you'd better tell Russ here that Stoops is in the wrong place if he wants to turn Arizona's football program into a winner. And while you are at it, tell Dick Toomey that he never existed either because Arizona is a basketball school, not football. Who cares if they were the team that finally took down the Miami football dynasty in the 80's... broke that huge home winning streak and knocked them out of contention for the NC that year. It never happened because (like you put it) everyone knows Arizona is a basketball school and DON'T EVER FORGET IT!
And for that matter, screw desert storm too. (A well known nickname for a very good Arizona defense you never heard of.) Desert storm never happened. Why? Well everyone knows that the only real defense is played in the south. But in reality it's only guys like you that buy into that kind of sh*t, just like that sarcastic rant I threw in your face because of how ridiculous it is. Apparantly not to you. Damn.
One more thing... someone tell Urban Meyer that there is no worthwhile football anywhere but in the South. And make sure while you are at it, see to it that he visits a hypnotherapist so he can have his years at Utah wiped from his mind.... How did we ever get anything as silly as Utah involved in this discussion in the first place? Heh heh... Saban really showed them Utes didn't he? And since we've now established that Utah is also irrelevant, BYU never really won a national championship either, not even in 1984... that sounds too Orwellian... it can't possibly be anything but bullshit... damn Mormons... who do they think they are anyway? Real football fans? They can't even tailgate right.
I hear you Ferris. Yeah. Football=SEC Baskeball=Pac-10, USC and the 9 dwarves. Pac-10 sucks, especially Oregon. That's all the truth anyone needs! Got it!
Fuck! I think I just got enlightened. Sorry to waste your time (and my own.) Now I see why you split from this board after the Vols ate it so bad last year -- after all that hype you spewed to lose to Wyoming... at Neyland?
Honestly tell me one thing... how many times in your life have you gone down in flames? Heh heh... well I got news for you. You ain't seen the last of it, not by a longshot.
