(3) Boise State Broncos (0-0) at (10) Virginia Tech Hokies (0-0)
FedEx Field, Hyattsville, Maryland
The Broncos return this season with 23 of the 24 players. Expect their potent offense to be in charge in this battle, but I don’t believe they will blow away the Hokies. Virginia Tech tough defenses will be a challenge. Boise State is 10-3 ATS on the road in their last 13 games and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games. Look for Boise State to snatch a close victory against Virginia Tech tonight at FedEx Field.

The Duke's Sports

Maryland (+6') for 2 Units

Maryland HC Friedgen has come under fire for his disastrous 2-10 season last year. Today, we'll look for the Terps to get out of the gate strong. When the Terps' expectations are at their lowest, they've done well. Few expect the Terps to make noise this season and even fewer expect them to beat Navy, a veteran team that is very confident coming off a big bowl win. Maryland, however, has had an adequate amount of time to scheme and practice vs the vaunted Navy triple-option. MD DC Don Brown, who was the former coach for U Mass in 2006 when the Minutemen held the explosive Midshipen to just 289 total yards in a 1 point defeat. We'll look for the Terps to play well disciplined assignment football and disrupt the timing of Navy's game. Of course, simulating a triple-option in practice is not the same as playing against an experienced well schooled option --such as Navy's; however, MD's defense can match Navy's speed, and with the extended prep can limit Navy's effectiveness. Navy is not used to playing the road favorite role and should have problems here.

Tampa Bay Rays (83-53) at Boston Red Sox (76-61)
(R) Jeff Niemann (10-5) vs. (L) Jon Lester (15-8)

The Rays have won 14 of their last 21 games and have taken 6 of the last 7 games against Boston. The Red Sox are just 2-6 in its last 8 games and 1-4 in its last 5 at home.

Tampa Bay's right-hander Jeff Niemann (10-5, 3.97 ERA), is 1-2 with an 11.74 ERA in his last three starts and is 2-1 with a 3.94 ERA in 3 career starts against the Red Sox. The Rays are 9-2 in Niemann’s last 11 road starts.

Boston's lefthander Jon Lester (15-8, 3.27 ERA), is 2-1 with an 8.40 ERA in his last three starts and is 8-3 with a 3.86 ERA in 15 career starts against the Rays. The Red Sox are 4-1 in Lester's last 5 starts.

Boston's southpaw Jon Lester has won four of his last five starts versus Tampa Bay, but has lost his last four starts at home. Lester will need all the support he can get from the stumbling Red Sox. Go with the Rays! Tampa Bay has been an impressive on the road and should grab a close win at Fenway Park. Tampa Bay has won five of the last six battles with the Red Sox in Boston this season and struggling Jeff Niemann has pitched well against them, going 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in two starts.

Tampa Bay Rays +145
