In the moments immediately following the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, trainer Bill Mott said his thoughts were of how well his colts Country House and Tacitus had run, and he figured they’d both be bound for the Belmont Stakes next.

Why not run them in the Preakness? You did win the derby by disqualification, take a shot.

Mott knows he can't win the Preakness, hence quickly to the Belmont.

Once they took Max Sec. down from the win, i wasn't affected and I KNOW it was the right decision ( still hurt like HELL) after watching races for more than 40 years.... But how they figured he should be placed -17th was it; kinda seems a little far down...I can see out of the money, but 17th? The Preakness will be interesting.

You get placed behind the horses you fouled

HE Drifted Out and Bother the # 1 horse which effected the #18 and #21 horses ;

Therefore was disqualified and placed behind all three of these horses ; WHICH IS NORMAL OPERATING PROCEDURES FOR ANY /ALL RACETRACKS IN AMERICA....................

very simple decision; certainly not an easy one to make given the money and historical prestige involved tho.. !!

On why jockey Tyler Gaffalione didn't claim foul, and how he feels about riders having to claim foul in general:*
"When Tyler came back, he said he clipped heels. He said how he didn't go down, he didn't know. And we talked for a second about [claiming foul]. But we didn't feel - what, so we could be sixth? I don't think riders should have to claim foul. I think it's up to the stewards to make those decisions. [Jockeys], you want them to work every day beside each other and get along. Do you think [if I'm a rider], I'm gonna take the biggest race of [another rider's] life away? So I can be sixth? They shouldn't put the riders in that predicament. These are their friends. They ride with them every day."
"I would say if there was any mistake yesterday - and I have to say, I have the highest respect for the stewards - it was the inquiry sign should have gone up as soon as they passed the wire. ... I was actually kind of surprised it wasn’t up.”

No way Tyler’s claiming foul...his owners would never forgive him. If he’s on another horse hat was affected, he’s claiming foul.

flavien prat being a "Outsider " doesn't give 2 sh*ts

Mott making his case because he knew he would move up to 1st AND 3rd place

so instead of getting $600K and $150K, he got $1.8Mil and $300K

How does Mott get to claim foul when his horse wasn't even effected by any infraction that may have occurred?

I put this in the horse racing forum and I'm putting it here. Guys who say they know horse racing and think the right call was made don't know horse racing like they think they do. No offense.

The rules are different for a race of this calibre and size field. They have never before taken a horse down in the Derby in 147 years. Precedent means everything. Ask any lawyer. That infraction was not near bad enough to overrule precedent. And over 20 minutes to post their ruling? That's crazy for America's biggest horse race. I'd like to read the resumes of those stewards. They were not prepared to do their jobs. They should know going into the race that unless something absolutely crazy happens, the result stands. Nothing absolutely crazy happened. Not even close. What happened happens in smaller fields and lesser races every day. 2 minute decision and it should have been "result stands".

Yes, I had Maximum Security. But I didn't set the ruling precedent. 147 years!!!!

Watch Country House foul another horse in the last turn. Crickets.

And watch him foul another horse a hundred yards or so after the break.

Country House was the big infractor in this race. Never looked at.

Proves the point of these infractions happening all the time in fields of this size. And they are ALWAYS overlooked.

And no, those infractions of his should not have disqualified him either because 147 years of precedent says so.

Most are forgetting a Key Element, there was NO inquiry

9 out of 10 of these Jockey objections don't stand, and I've seen worst where the outcome didn't change the results

just my 2 cents

i actually heard there was an inquiry but the tv coverage and everything f'd it up and only had the objection

as with everything associated with racing, nothing makes logical sense, particularly stewards decisions which seem random.
they have no acccountability

Will this open a Pandoras box where every year now jockeys will object the smallest bump or cut off? Because we know it happens in every derby each year........

I have to very respectfully disagree, Michelangelo. All racing should be judged equally, just like a baseball game or football. It’s not a perfect world so mistakes do happen.

It was a pretty flagrant foul yesterday. I could see a scenario play out where, if there was no foul, War of Wills pulls up alongside Max and they engage in a head to head duel. Either one could win, or another horse (dare I say Country House?) could pass them both as they tire each other out. That’s just one scenario.

In any case, I respect your opinion. Hope you had a winning day yesterday!

here's where I disagree with this opinion by a few

you do realize that when Max bore out he briefly gave up the lead ? and it was a 4 horse race at that point ( 4 across )
so he took himself out of the race for a few seconds. He then fought back and pulled away

It certainly looked like code of honor was going to blow past on the inside but I don't think the inside was the place to be and max had another gear after kinda lollygagging around the final turn.
