Juwan Howard led Michigan to a Big Ten title last week. On Tuesday, he was named the conference’s Coach of the Year.
Howard, in just his second season as head coach, became the first Michigan coach to claim the award since John Beilein in 2014. Two other Michigan coaches, Johnny Orr (twice) and Bill Frieder, have won the honor, awarded since 1974.
Michigan, predicted before the season to finish in the middle of the Big Ten, went 14-3 in conference, the best winning percentage in the league. As a result, the Wolverines were named Big Ten regular-season champions for the first time since 2014 and will be the No. 1 seed in this week’s
conference tournament.
