Considering Post #125 and the timing re: your current project/the degree to which your present company depends upon you, has mortgaged themselves on you to bring that off in the best manner possible....the level of Faith they placed in you to be there for that project...

how does leaving them at this time not equal the equivalent of recklessly burning a bridge in a really really selfish manner?

And creating a permanent Black Mark/Red Flag upon your Resume that reveals your overall Life Philosophy where regards a Business Relationship to be:

"All about Me. Nothing else Matters?"

Because it is a company's responsibility to keep their employees happy enough that they aren't constantly looking for other career paths. There is a difference between bondage and loyalty in an employer/employee relationship. I wasn't even looking, this job found me, but it's kind of telling that about every 2 years I have to re-enlighten them as to my true market value in order to negotiate a salary adjustment up to market.

People switch career tracks all the time. There's never NOTHING going on, it's always going to be inconvenient timing for the employer. I would be giving 6 weeks notice, I presented them with a fully thought-out continuity plan for my day-to-days AND for that project, and I even offered to support the project for up to 10 hours per week from home in the evenings after that until it is complete. I wouldn't feel like I was jumping ship at all; quite the contrary I would feel I went above and beyond what is generally considered ethical.

As far as its effect on my resume, it's not like I would put an asterick next to that piece of job history that said "**bailed mid-project". All there would be is job A and job B, and if the question comes up why did I leave A for B, "I was ready for a new challenge." If the question comes up "under what condition did I leave", IMO I gave proper notice and transition out period.

C'mon to the Carolinas, bro! ;)

I prefer Carolina style BBQ to Texas, go figure, lol, but you're right, Charleston and Greenville, SC destroy them all when it comes to food...

Agree Completely on Carolina BBQ.

Portions in Carolina better than elsewhere.

Carolina Seafood + a few Bars Grandfathered in so can stay open till 5 am (at least when I was there, don't know if Law has changed) + Carolina Beaches......these factors clench the deal...

...where the deal is comparison of US States re: Food/Life.

Carolina way way way under the Radar for this deal.

I Love Folly Beach, much less a fan of Myrtle due to crowdedness/urban challenges. Hilton Head is expensive, Sea Island probably even worse but for tranquility, scenery....they rock.

I prefer St Louis and Memphis style BBQ.

Memphis has an incredible place I went to one time that I consider the best I ever had.
BBQ is about the only thing where I live sucks at so I tend to do a lot of BBQ on the road since I can't get that at home.

Acceptable Answers.

Post #125 did complicate this issue.

I just hope if you do decide to move on that, due to the amount of responsibility you have at your current spot based upon which one could reasonably expect that (in the future) your current employer might be contacted for input on your employment there, that the timing of your exit does not lead them to Trash Your Name.

You're Spot On though with the fact that "There's never NOTHING going on, it's always going to be inconvenient timing."

This is a tough decision.

Yep! Way under rated. I love Folly also, but Beaufort and Litchfield are my favs. Over looked for everything where I love as we have the lowest gas prices in the entire nation, low cost of living (just bought a $300k house that would cost me $600k-1M elsewhere), great paying jobs for the most part, and a couple hours I'm buried in the Mountains or at the beach, or the big city. As much as I would like to relocate bc I was born and raised here, it really is hard to beat. Now a stay at home job would complete the deal, or one with a little travel...lol

+1000 to Memphis Style BBQ.

A trip via the tiny roads through TN itself should be a Bucket List item. Especially for a BBQ Lover. I say when passing through TN take the smallest roads you can find and meander across the state everywhich way possible. Tennessee is amazing.

I agree to this as well as it goes down like that here also. The best BBQ and soul food is found in places where most wouldn't even consider going into. I had to force an out of town friend to go into an establishment one time that looks like a run down shack, and the floors feel like they're gonna cave in when you walk, but now he begs to go there when in town.

Yeah I had a great time in Beaufort, all along that coast Folly Beach SC (Charleston) down to Tybee Island GA (Savannah area) was literally among the greatest times of my life.

You know....

...how such a thing could happen. It was the Summer.

Thats why I love apps like YELP.
If you do enough study these apps can veer you in the right direction and help you avoid the tourist traps.

New Orleans is full of tourist traps. I'm shocked people from out of town even consider New Orleans to be so great in the food department because most of the visitors always end up eating at the wrong places .

There must be 50 places in the French quarter that has a sign in the front that says worlds best this or worlds best that and the locals just laugh at the tourist that walk into those joints . Those are some of the worst places to eat in the whole city .

Gospel.

There are places down there, Georgia, SC, TN, even NC....Family Run most generally, that are like decrepit shacks but make BBQ so good it'll make you spend, like, 3 days in town living in your truck unless some family adopts you, drinking at the one bar in town which when one does that generally leads to someone adopting ya so you can sleep indoors....for better or worse :):)
