Completely agree with you about Essien. I think if Man Utd had got Essien last season, they would be absolutely fantastic, and possibly winning the title. I remember seeing him play for Lyon against Man Utd in the Champions League a few seasons ago, and I was amazed that in an away match, he found a way to almost dominate a midfield of Keane and Scholes who I consider the two most influential midfielders in the Premier League.fhmesq44 said:I have actually heard the same about Lampard Rhino, although I don't tend to agree. He was a monster the first 2/3 of last season and the year prior. He certainly isn't as well rounded as the guys you mentioned, but then again he doesn't have to be with Makelele and Essien. I suppose we shall see what happens. Essien is an absolute beast, I gained a huge level of respect for his game during the world cup and since. He isn't being used to his fullest by Chelsea. No need to sign Ballack when they had him IMO. Similar players, or at least Essien is capable of the same game if given the chance, and Essien is younger and better IMO.
Now, we should stop polluting Jack's thread and start this in another one or one of ours.
As for Lampard. His big season was Chelsea's first league title win. I admit, I thought he played very well. He was scoring goals, and his range of passing was decent. The team was really built around giving him the time and space to play. Last season he was poor. He, Mourinho and Sven even acknowledged that he had a very poor start to the season. I watched alot of Chelsea matches, and the games just tended to pass him by. I don't believe it was a case of bad luck, I think its because he is a genuinely limited player. He doesn't play a killer pass often enough, he hasn't got the greatest close control in tight spaces, and he never dictates a match like a central midfielder should. I find it ridiculous that Scholes was shifted out of position to accomodate Lampard in central midfield for England.
Yeah mate, I promise its the end of the Lampard hatred for me. Keep on making the good picks Jack!
