Last night we hit on BOTH NHL plays, but BYU let us down on the NCAA front, winning but not covering.
Tonight I have 2 plays for you.
NCAA Basketball
Seton Hall +5 vs Michigan State was on my radar. Once again MSU will face off against a very good team early in the season, a scenario which historically hasn’t been good for the Spartans. This time, that tough early season opponent is Seton Hall. Michigan State is a team that follows a consistent path. So many times they have underperformed early, and then Izzo molds what he has into a potential Final Four team by March. But the problem is there’s no way to gauge Winston’s mental state as he still has to be coping with the death on Sunday of his brother. He played that night, and played well. But grieving is a funny thing, and the emotions he played both with and through on Sunday may be different today. Add into the mix that Seton Hall’s Myles Powell is a game time decision, and I’ve regrettably been forced to remove this pick. There’s just too much up in the air to go in on this play.
NHL
Again, last night we had 2 winners. Tonight there is only one play.
Carolina -135 vs Buffalo.
Buffalo gave their hockey starved fans an early treat to start the season. But now they are in the midst of what has become all too common in recent years, the SWOON. And boy are they swooning. The Sabres have lost 5 in a row, and 6 of 7. In those 7 games they have 12 goals. I’m sorry, but 1.7 goals per game isn’t gonna get it done versus anyone in the NHL. Yes, they’ve scored 5 in the last 2 games, but those games where in Sweden, where the travel and distractions contributed in the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] game to some opportunities not even the Sabres could miss. They scored 3 goals in the final game. Too bad they gave up 5, and both those games were winners for us. Tonight they go up against Carolina, who just put up 8 on Ottawa Monday night. The Hurricanes are as streaky as team as there is in the NHL. They have had winning streaks of 5 and 3, to go with losing streaks of 3 and 4. That accounts for 15 of their 18 games. So we have a bad offense going against a streaky team that just scored 8 goals. There’s no key injuries, and Buffalo is streaking with 5 losses. Get on Carolina with good odds at -135.
NFL
Open up a TRIPLE DIP TEASER on Cleveland and the Under.
Right now at most books the numbers are Cleveland -3 and 41.5. We are gonna take that and make is
Cleveland +7 and under 48.5. This game SCREAMS under. Both teams are going to try and get a ground game going. Neither team has a great offense. Both teams have had their games go under the 48.5 point threshold 66% of the time this season. And this is a divisional rivalry game on a short week. Which also bodes well for our Cleveland +7 portion of the dip, as a home team getting 7 points in a divisional game is a gift. Take it. We’ll leave the third leg open until the weekend.
BOL!
