Not much on the slate today. Two NHL games, 1 NFL game, a couple of NCAA football plays, and 3 NBA games. Lost on both NHL plays last night. Today I’m doing one NHL play, and I’m shying away from the 49ers at Cardinals game. As far as the Niners game goes, I wouldn’t touch this with a 10 foot pole. The Cardinals are riding a 5 game home winning streak vs Frisco. While SF has a great defense, one of the best plays historically ATS is to take home dogs when facing a team in the same division. Add to that the favorite is on a short week for a Thursday game, and everything points towards trouble for SF. I think they win the game, but the ML is too high and I’m not giving the Cardinals 10 points in their own stadium. ESPECIALLY at the rate Dogs are covering this season, in particular – home dogs.

So I’m on a SMALL NHL play tonight – taking Nashville at home riding a 4 game winning streak (I LOVE riding streaks in the NHL), against a Calgary team that has lost 3 of it’s last 4 and is in the midst of a 6 game road trip. Couple that with we have a poor road team in the Flames (2-5-1) playing a Predator team that loves being home (6-1-1). Pekka Rinne is one of the NHL’s top goal tenders, and hasn’t lost a game yet this season. Nashville -135 at 5Dimes.

NBA

Tonight there's only one game I'm liking - and that's Dallas +2 over the Lakers. This is a game that I believe the Mavs win OUTRIGHT. They should be laying points here, but the Lakers are the Lakers, and King James is King James. What does that equal? The public has pushed this line in the wrong direction. Get to Bovada and get the 2 points while you can, because smart bettors are moving this line back in the other direction.

NHL

I have three games for tonight. A streaking hot NY Islanders team +105 vs Tampa Bay, Washington -183 coming home after a long road trip, and San Jose -145 at home vs Winnipeg. All lines are from BetOnline.ag.

Proceed with caution this week. In my view, the ATS games for this weekend are as close as I’ve seen all year. Combine that with the fact so many dogs have been covering YTD, and you have a truly unpredictable weekend in the midst of a very tough ATS season. I have two picks today for NCAA Football.

NCAAA FOOTBALL

Washington +3 vs Utah (Buy the ½ point)
I’m simply not sold on Utah, especially as a road favorite vs Washington. The Huskies season is in shambles after a couple of home losses. I can’t see them losing a third. I actually believe they win this game outright, so get 3 to 3.5 is a bonus. Washington has won 4 in a row vs Utah, and this is their big game this season. The Pac-12 has a really bad habit of beating each other up, and Utah has already stumbled once on the road this year (at USC). The line right now is -3 nearly everywhere. I’m taking this game and ABSOLUTELY buy the half point and get that hook to favor us.

SMU +6 at Memphis (BetOnline.ag)
I’m going to continue to ride the SMU train. I’m not sold it’s going to roll thru Memphis with a victory, but with 6 points, I’ll take this undefeated Conference USA road dog. They may not have their standout WR Roberson, and that could cost them the game. It may not be as high scoring as some think, but it’s gonna be close. In this year of the dog, I really like SMU tonight.

NHL
I have a potential for FOUR NHL plays tonight.

Florida -270 (Intertops) vs Detroit
This Red Wings team is TERRIBLE. And they are playing back to back road games and coming off getting plastered last night at Carolina 7-3. Florida returns home after their road trip and will feast on some Wings.

Carolina -185 (5Dimes) vs New Jersey
The Hurricanes are 6-1 at home, while the Devils have won just 2 games all season, and are winless on the road. Sporting a 2-9 overall record, I’ll take the better team and take a line that I thought for SURE would be over 200.

NY Islanders +110 @Buffalo (BetOnline.ag)
Frankly I’m stunned the Islanders aren’t favored. Yes, they are playing on back to back nights, but so is Buffalo. New York is riding an 8 game winning streaks, and unless the odds are bad (which here they are not) I’m riding them until they lose.

Now – IF ALL THREE NHL Plays come in, I’m going to go in on this nightcap game at 10:30 PM EST.
LA Kings -120 vs Chicago.
Here come the Blackhawks. They started their long road trip by getting blanked at Nashville. The Kings are also not impressive, as they have lost 4 in a row. But they are about to go on yet another long road trip, and this is a win they HAVE to get. The 3-8 Blackhawks will go to 3-9.
ONLY bet this game if we sweep the earlier 3 NHL games, all of which should be over by the time the puck drops in LA.

UPDATE

For those of you that may have tight bankrolls, and the NHL plays are just too much to wager on each game, consider doing what I just decided to do. A 4 Team Parlay. Now, as we all know (or should know), we need to win ALL FOUR games (or however many games you wager in the parlay) to win.

Just because I LOVE the Boston Bruins tonight, but am unwilling (as anyone with a normal bankroll should be) to bet the -375 line straight. So I picked 3 games at 7pm that I expect to win – but have high money lines, and have a closer game at 10:30PM that I’m confident in – which makes the payoff better. So on BetOnline.ag, I put in the following parlay

Hockey - 60 Los Angeles Kings -120 for Game

Hockey - 38 Boston Bruins -375 for Game

Hockey - 42 Florida Panthers -275 for Game

Hockey - 44 Carolina Hurricanes -197 for Game

A $40 play will net you approximately $150. The best plays are the 3 early games. If all three come in, I’ll be hedging on the Blackhawks to cover my initial wager. Will that cut into my winnings? ABSOLUTELY it will. But when I’m faced with an opportunity to win money, but be guaranteed NOT TO LOSE MONEY – I hop on it. That’s how you preserve a bankroll. Anyway, I just wanted to throw this out there to you in the event you’re looking at the early NHL lines and are getting sticker shot at the high money lines.

Here's my NFL play. Went 4-2 yesterday! www.JackWinningham.com

November 3, 2019

A fun Saturday! I hope it was as good for you as it was for me. I can’t count the SMU game as a win for you guys, as it landed right on 6, but I had a book that bumped it to -7, so I split the NCAA games, and took 3 of 4 in the NHL. The parlay died because of Carolina in the NHL, but you shouldn’t have bet the individual games AND the parlay.

Hey, anytime I go 4-2 and walk with cash – I’m thrilled!

NFL

So today. What a messy looking NFL schedule. There’s not a whole lot to like today. With ATS, this looks to be a tough week to play, so don’t open the vault and start throwing cash on games this week. I put a little something on a Dip for the London game, and I mean LITTLE, with Jacksonville +7 and under 53 (Remember – we get to move the lines by 6 points with a Dip/Teaser). And I’m talking LITTLE – to the tune of a whopping $20. But that’s not an official play for you guys. Overall, this is a lot of inter-conference garbage games – which I HATE, and then bad team vs bad team and average team vs average team. I’m looking for mis-matches, and they aren’t very prevalent in Week 9. Even Miami has a shot to win, as the crummy Jets come to town laying wood. Normally I love home dogs in divisional games (Miami), but the Dolphins are one of the worst football teams I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been watching since the early 70’s.

Out of the entire day, there’s one game I like. I’ve been looking at this one since before the season started. It’s Seattle -4.5 vs Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers are on the final leg of one of the most brutal road trips in NFL history. Their last home game was September 22nd. Their next home game is November 10th. This includes a trip to London. And they finish off their 5th straight road game with as far as they could go and still staying in the continental United States – to Seattle. What nincompoop made this schedule??? Tampa should sue the NFL. Hell, I’d have taken Seattle in this game anyway. But versus an exhausted Bucs team that has traveled over 20,400 miles in 6 weeks it's an even better play. And emotionally they’ve been pimped by bad calls and close losses. I fully expect Russell Wilson to pick this team apart on Sunday in Seattle. His counterpart Jameis Winston is a turnover factory, and even though the Seattle defense isn’t the great squad they used to be, they are going to feast on some post-Halloween goodies that Winston will serve up. Hell, even the Money Line looks tempting at -250. But I’ll lay the 4.5 and call it a day. At least in the NFL. PICK: Seattle -4.5

Not a whole lot happening tonight. The best play on the board is the mismatch between the Red Wing and Nashville in the NHL. We are primed to make a LOT of cash on the Wings this year (similar to how I made a bundle betting against the Tigers this summer). So hop on and take the easy play.

NHL
Another win last night as the Red Wings were plastered by Nashville. Here are 2 more NHL plays for tonight.

NY Islanders -250.
The Islanders are on a NINE game winning streak, and I'm riding this until it ends.
On top of that they are playing one of the NHL's worst teams, the Ottawa Senators

Calgary -153
The Flames are coming home to play for the first time since October 24th - and they face Arizona.

FLASH UPDATE!!!! WWW.JACKWINNINGHAM.COM

NCAA BASKETBALL!
Kentucky +4 at 5Dimes!

Michigan State is a NOTORIOUS slow starter. Add to that they do terrible in these early matchups with the ACC, and also that Josh Langford is out for the foreseeable future. The play is on KENTUCKY!

ANOTHER GREAT NIGHT LAST NIGHT AS WE SWEPT THE BOARD!!!
Ahhh, $$$$ won is so much sweeter than money earned! (Gotta love that Paul Newman!)

November 6, 2019

NHL
NY Rangers -140
(5Dimes) are the play today. The Rangers aren’t anything special, but you don’t need to be to beat these Dead Wings. Detroit has lost 11 of 12, and has a harder time scoring goals than Donald Trump does keeping himself off Twitter. They’ve been outscored 17-4 in their last three games, and are sinking fast. This is a time to ride against right now. Low on talent and with essentially no depth, it’s going to be a long year in Hockeytown. Lundqvist should be in goal tonight, and that alone should keep the Wings under 2 goals. The Wings defense has been so bad recently, they should just hold up a sign behind their goal that says “BEAT JIMMY HOWARD”. Your not going to see many lines this low vs the Red Wings for the rest of the season. Cash in tonight.

NCAA BASKETBALL
Virginia -3
(Betonline.ag) This is a secondary play tonight. I’m not a big fan of conference games this early. The only reason it’s happening is because the ACC just launched their own television network, and want to cash in and get some eyes on the station ASAP. What that network should do is figure out how to run it’s highlight shows. They’re awful. Normally I’d take the under with a Virginia team, but this is so early, I’d like to see how this new group functions on the court. The better play tonight is the NY Rangers in the NHL. But if you MUST be “TV Tommy” and bet on some NCAA action because the damn game is on TV, well, here ya go. Both teams lost a lot of talent, but Syracuse hasn’t seem to have reloaded as much. It will be a sloppy game, which is another reason I’m shying away from the Under, and turnovers create transition scoring. And we saw a BOATLOAD of that on display with the Top Four teams in the country last night.

Again, my top play is the Rangers. A SMALL (Read that again – SMALL) play tonight on Virginia -3.

Another sweep yesterday! Hope you’ve been on board for a great week!

Tonight we come back with a big schedule in the NHL, a pair of lousy NCAA Football games, a battle for the middle of the pack in the AFC West, and a small schedule of NBA games. There are only 2 things I’m looking at tonight – and here they are…

NHL
Nashville -134 (5Dimes) vs Colorado
NY Islanders EVEN (Bovada) vs Pittsburgh

The Avs are in a really bad stretch right now, having lost their last 5 in a row. Nashville has been playing tough all year, and is simply the better play. Get on Nashville with a bargain line of -134 (or better if you can find it!)

I’ve been riding the Islanders, and just because they are playing the Penguins, I’m NOT stopping. Hockey, the NHL in particular, is a VERY streaky sport. To the point that when one ends, more times than not the team will go on a streak in the opposite direction. This is a very talented and healthy Islander team that has won 10 straights. I’m not going to bore you with a bunch of stats you don’t care about – the one that counts is we’ve been winning with them for some time now. Let’s keep it up tonight with a great line of +100 (it’s within 10 of that at most offshores).

I know I know, “There’s an NFL game on tonight!”. Well, if you are TV Tommy – and can’t watch a game without a wager on it – go flip a coin. This is a trash game I wouldn’t look twice at if it were in a full slate of Sunday games, so I’m not forcing myself into making a dumb bet just for the fact ‘it’s on TV’. That’s how you LOSE money. Avoid it and go with the 2 NHL plays.

EARLY 2PM START FOR NHL PLAY TODAY!!!

All good things must come to an end. And last night the Islanders finally lost. In overtime. And Nashville crapped the bed, giving up 9, that's right, NINE goals. So we gave back some of what we'd won this week.
NHLTonight the ONLY thing I like is Tampa Bay -160 (5Dimes) over Buffalo. The Sabres are in one of their regular scoring slumps, having lost 4 of their last 5, and 3 in a row. Over their last 5 games, they've netted only SEVEN goals. That's not a formula for winning hockey. Tonight they start their 2 game set vs Tampa in Sweden. Boy do I dislike when the leagues take their games on the road to other nations. In any event, Tampa is clearly the better team. Buffalo's record hides the fact their offense is still awful. I'm on Tampa -160

HE MAY BE PLAYING TONIGHT as they filed an injunction. This situation is fluid. But Memphis and the kid Wiseman will be out of sorts no matter if he plays or not. 154 is a HIGH number. Get an UNDER play in ASAP.

Swept the NHL again! But only one of our Triple Dips lives for today. What's next? Well, it's a light schedule in the NHL today, and nothing sticks out as a strong play. So we'll move on to closing our Triple Dip and some NCAA Basketball action.

TRIP DIP
Minnesota (NCAA) +16.5 - WON

Chicago +3.5

Cincinnati +20.5 or Indianapolis EVEN

I like both of these games, and lean towards taking the Bengals at home +20.5 as they are getting Green back today, and "Home Dog/Same Division plays are great with regular spreads, let alone a 10 point swing. For those who can't bring themselves to pull the trigger on the Bengals, go with the Colts - but keep in mind that Brissett is a game time decision - and that Fitzpatrick has been playing well for Miami.

NCAA HOOPS
Today I like the 3 plays.

Virginia UNDER 124
Clemson UNDER 138

Clemson -8.5

Both Virginia and Clemson tend to play slower games, ESPECIALLY Virginia. Colgate is a sacrificial lamb play for Clemson, and James Madison will be stifled by Virginia's defense. The slow pace and mismatch in both games should keep both plays UNDER.

Wow. Talk about bad beats. Washington had a goal given away on replay, and then the game winning goal in OT taken away by replay. You don't survive 2 goals like that in the NHL. Not even Washington. No matter. We move forward. Tonight, go with a Blues team returning home over those same Arizona Wildcats. Coyotes are playing back to back road games. Never a good thing.
