got a general question for you veteran soccer bettors. on bodog looking at the epl lines, what is the difference between the pick and moneyline? for example the pick is at -700 and the money line is at -185. why is there such a difference?

The difference is like any other sport, with the difference between betting a team on a pick other than the moneyline is that if the game ends in a tie, on the pick play you get a no action and on the moneyline you lose... The rest is like in any other sport (-+ 0.25 goals and upward)

EXAMPLE:

Udinese at PARMA
Parma at pk -127
Parma -0.5 +167

Let's just pretend it ends 1-1 (which it won't), the the following applies:
PK line: Push (no monetary losses)
money line of -0.5 (lose the money)

Sorry, did not explain it OK

Lets look at 3 plays

X Team to win at -700

X Team at -1.5 goals at -120

Y Team at "pick" at -110

If you select the first play, your team needs to win by whatever margin to cover the bet, a tie loses...

If you select the 2nd bet, you only cover if your team wins by 2 goals. Anything less is a loser.

If you select the 3rd bet, if your team ties the game, you get a no-action, if your team wins by whatever margin, you cover.

Yes, that is the good thing of the "pick" line, you get a possibility to at least not lose the bet.

Do you have any thoughts on Juve today???

I think this is a game they should win. Being a derby and all... Also a little lean on the under...

What do you think mad actuarian?

I played Juventus with the inflated moneyline of -0.5 -144, for a small wager of 2.5 units. I shouldn't complain, as this line opened at -190. When I watched Juventus / Reggina, it seemed that Juventus went on full attack quite late in the game. Reggina was lucky at times, but did not really panick when defending; as such I hope Juve comes out more offensively against the Toro. What can you say about the Toro...Come back from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 against Parma !?. They actually had a glorious chance to win it near the end, but wasted it.

With Roma facing Inter (anything can happen in that game, especially if the big Swede is not playing), I tend to agree with you on the importance of this derby. If they fail to defeat Torino today, I might jump on Roma at PK and +0.5, instead of the straight +0.5.

Game should be tight today, and probably very boring to watch. For me, it was either playing the under 2.5, or Juve -0.5. I settled for Juve, and hope it's not a trap.

Good luck to you

Yes, after checking up some possible lineups, I guess I am going with the under, as I heard that Trezeguet is out today again, Cristiano Zanetti too. With Iaquinta and Sissoko coming in. Momo Sissoko is an excelente DEF MF, so that could tighten up Juve's MF and keep the ball possesion out of Torino's feet.

Also Buffon is back in the starting lineup, after missing the last game, another help to Juve's defense.

So I am playing the UNDER, with a possibility of a small Juve bet.

GL on your picks

I believe I have generated the necessary amount to cover my Champions League Propositions Losers next week.

Do you still feel "German" about Schalke against Porto?

SERIE B - 2007/2008 SEASON YTD: 106W – 105L – 47T (+4.02 units)

BRESCIA at RAVENNA
I believe Chievo will have a tough time with Lecce, who can match them offensively, and are far superior on defense. I also believe Albinoleffe will have a very tough time against Bari, who could surprise the visitor; a potential mini upset could be in the works here. Bologna should – in theory – throttle Cesena, and Pisa should have an equally easy time with Treviso; although I believe Treviso will fare much better, as Pisa has not clicked offensively in the last few games, and Treviso has played much better in their last dozen games or so. This brings us to Brescia, the final contender for Serie A graduation. Not the most fluid team on the road, for whatever reason they don’t have the same predatorial instincts as they do at home. However, this is an opportunity to potentially gain some ground in the standings against teams like Chievo and Lecce, and despite Ravenna’s respectable home record of 4W-5L-4T 17GF 18GA, they are overall full of holes on the defensive front (15 goals allowed in the last 6 games). With this outfit it could be scoreless at the half, and then end up losing the game 3-0. Winning on the road is tough in any league, but Brescia has been regaining form and are far superior to Ravenna in every department. Don’t think they will settle for a draw here, and will definitely be in “seek and destroy” mode. A win here will be huge, especially knowing that they will come back home to face Cesena next week.

Brescia -0.5 -109 (7 units)

Lecce at CHIEVO – Important clash for both of these teams; the next two matches for each side will probably create a momentum change in the positive direction, for the one who survives the ordeal. For Chievo, it shapes up like this: Lecce this week at home, and next week, a tough road assignment at Rimini. Both opponents playing stifling defense, especially Rimini, who has held the opponent scoreless in 5 straight games. For Lecce it unfolds like this: Chievo this week, and a showdown at home next week against arguably one of the most balanced teams in the B league. If Lecce survives this week – which I strongly believe they will – they will enter the Bologna match with the right frame of mind. First encounter in week seven saw Lecce pound Chievo 3-0 in game that could have easily finished 5-0. In a game such as this where top of table teams are separated by a mere two points (Chievo 57 – Lecce 55), it’s easy to side with the home team who holds the natural psychological advantage. Both Chievo and Lecce have similar offensive tendencies, but on defense there is no comparison; this is where Lecce has been a model of consistency throughout the whole year (just in the last 15 games they have allowed a mere 7 goals against). If you watched them play you have seen how they achieve this, it starts with exceptional ball control at midfield, and it ends usually with exceptional counter-attacking by Tiribocchi and Abbruscato. Chievo will undoubtably want to win this game, and as such, will inevitably provide Lecce with a decent number of counter opportunities as they apply their patented pressing. It is here that the game will be decided.
Lecce pk and +0.5 +106 (6 units)
