Is Magic Johnson really HIV positive?

Wilbon credited Magic as an Aids awareness ambassador, urban business legand , you name he complimented him...Bob Ryan was with Wilbon today, and they both appeared to love Magic, both being NBA reporters back then...both said they thought like everyone else Magic had about 5 years to live when it was revealed.

I think he is a bad ambassador for HIV. Because of him, many people dont fear HIV nearly as much as in the past.

I will put it to you this way DOUG. 15 years ago when Magic got HIV everyone in the world thought this was a death sentence. 15 years later(and partly due to Magic Johnson) people dont fear this virus nearly as much as they did back then.

I know I personally dont fear it as much as a used to.

People are having unprotected sex much more than they did 15 years ago.

I have heard lots of people during water cooler talk, talk about how HIV is really not that big of a deal, "Magic is still doing fine" they would say.

Meanwhile, people who are not in as good of physical condition, or people who do not have the same access to drugs as Johnson let there gaurd down and bamm!!!!!!! They have HIV.

Not blamming it all on Johnson, but the attitude towards HIV has greatly been changed in the last 15 years, and Magic has at least something to do with that.

Since the Virus came from a group of monkeys in Africa, and those monkeys were positive but didn't progressed to AIDS, they just carried the disease, it would be completely and well based to say that, that could happen to humans....


These monkeys are supposedly the source of HIV, but there genes didn't progressed to AIDS, so, the cure could be right there, they lived in a specific part of Africa, and when people back in the 30's ate them, that's where the virus jumped from monkeys to humans....


That's in a article I read a while ago in a Costarican newspaper, I don't have the link but I'm sure someone can get more info on this....

JMHO, but if you think that MAGIC is to blame from taking AIDS ever so lightly, shame on you and you're not taking responsibility for your actions..... that's the way a teenager thinks, it's sad to see intelligent people talk like that....

I remember when this story first came out, everytime I heard the word HIV, the first thing that would always pop up in my mind was Magic Johnson.

Now 12 years or so later, when someone says Magic Johnson, HIV is not even on the top 10 things I think of when I hear his name. As a matter of fact, I have to be reminded that he even so called has the virus.

Im beginning to wonder if the guy even has HIV to tell you the truth. I could almost make a case that the center for disease control called him up asking him to fake it. Not saying this is the case, but it could be true.

I know he has access to the greatest drugs there is, but he has not even shown the slightest signs of having any issues.

Either he has access to meds that no one else does, or maybe he does not have HIV at all.


Does anyone think that there is the slightest chance that he may not have HIV and never did?

Me speculating that someone does not have a virus, is no worse than people saying that Albert Pujos takes steriods. Neither one of us can prove a damm thing either way.

While this may be true it is pretty much believed that humans will develop symptoms eventually - the current antivirals appear to be effective but no one really knows for how long - no one has ever had the virus disappear but many have really suppressed it.

Fascinating interview from 25 years ago. Many of the things they discuss can be applied to things happening in the US right now regarding Covid. This guy won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in the 90's and he doesn't think HIV causes Aids. It's very interesting if you have time to listen to the whole thing.
