Is Magic Johnson really HIV positive?

I remember when this story first came out, everytime I heard the word HIV, the first thing that would always pop up in my mind was Magic Johnson.

Now 12 years or so later, when someone says Magic Johnson, HIV is not even on the top 10 things I think of when I hear his name. As a matter of fact, I have to be reminded that he even so called has the virus.

Im beginning to wonder if the guy even has HIV to tell you the truth. I could almost make a case that the center for disease control called him up asking him to fake it. Not saying this is the case, but it could be true.

I know he has access to the greatest drugs there is, but he has not even shown the slightest signs of having any issues.

Either he has access to meds that no one else does, or maybe he does not have HIV at all.


Does anyone think that there is the slightest chance that he may not have HIV and never did?

Me speculating that someone does not have a virus, is no worse than people saying that Albert Pujos takes steriods. Neither one of us can prove a damm thing either way.

Yes, he is postitive - not for 12 years - for 15 - there are many effective antivirals.

I thought I heard his level of HIV (for lack of a better way of putting it) is either almost undetectable or no longer...Probably just a rumor...But yeah I know what you mean, it is almost forgotten...and to be honest I don't even think of him as having it anymore.

I do remember exactly where I was when I heard that news...

I seriously doubt it was staged.

my uncle has had hiv for just as long as mj and shows no signs of it, im no expert but i assume it kicks into fullblown aids quicker for some then others.

Its suspected that Magic has a CCR5 mutation on his gp120 gene. Its a gene in your body where people will be HIV+ but the virus won't progress to AIDS. So basicly he just has a virus in his body similar to how Journey has Herpes.

Yes, the virus is so suppressed a test for the virus might miss it - however, he has the antibodies proving he has the virus.

If that is true, it means one of 2 things.

A) THERE IS A 100% cure that most people dont have access to
B) Never had it in the first place.


I cant remember the last time I saw Magic Johnson and thought of him in the light that he has a deadly disease. He will die an old man IMO.

I wish I had a dollar for everytime someone misquotes me. I could quit my job and post fulltime, giving Gyno a run for his money.

I did not say for a fact that I thought he did not have HIV, I said there was a chance.


I can give you many reasons why it would be benificial for the CENTER DISEASE CONTROL to have someone fake having HIV. I you cant see why that would benifit that group, you have no future in sales or marketing.

you know it is funny you brought this up. i have a buddy who has been saying for 12 years i don't think magic has hiv. he is bigger and seems to have more weight on him than 10 years ago.
then a few years ago a story came out that magic's wife said the power of their prayers has cured magic claiming the virus was not detectable in his blood. my buddy called me up and says see what i told you.
i believe he has hiv. there are people that have lived over twenty years with the virus and don't get sick. scientists don't really know why. maybe he is one of them.

While this is a legitimate theory most believe given enough time the disease will set in - however, there are many people living 20+ years with HIV.

I guess its safe to say he does not have HIV right now.

whether or not he had it before is up for debate.

But some of you posters make some valid points, im leaning towards him once having a mild case of HIV.
