How did he get screwed? Kaepernick was better than him last year. It is a meritocracy and 1 of the best coaches in the NFL chose to go with a different player.
After SF lost 26-3 at home to the Giants I think that is when Harbaugh knew they couldn't get over the hump with Smith at QB. He just isn't very good...
Get over the hump? Was it Smith's fault that in 2011, K. Williams fumbled the punt in the title game? If he doesn't turn the ball over, SF is over the hump and to the same spot Kap was last year.
Don't get me wrong, I think Kap is a fine player but Smith was playing great until he got injured.

Yeah KWill blew it but not like Smith played great or anything. He is just limited, playing great is a little strong. Look at the 9ers team last year, top RB, top TE, top WR, top OL and top D...he was put in a position to succeed.
They didn't switch it up for no reason. The guy is just limited, can't put the ball down the field really...
After the Giants game and getting killed at home to the team that ended their season last year I think was the point Harbaugh knew the ceiling on that team with Smith at QB was limited compared to Kaep's upside.
I don't expect him to do very well with KC.
And they were 6-2-1 in the games he started. He didn't need to play great. He needed to play very well which is what he was doing.
Can't put the ball down the field? I read two days ago he was 60% last year at balls thrown to WRs 15 or more yards down the field. Pretty damn good if you ask me.
Yeah he did what he needed to, but ultimately they had a guy on the bench with more upside and that was obvious when he got hurt. Not sure how that is getting screwed...
How do you think he will do in his tenure with KC
I think it's getting screwed PF because he was playing great last year, took them to the NFC Title game the year previously and was replaced because he was injured. With the way he was playing, you're simply not supposed to lose your job due to an injury but he remained a pro and did what he had to do to support the team.
Not saying though Kap doesn't have more upside.
That is very true. Kind of like we wouldn't know either how the season would've played out had Smith been the QB all year long.
I agree with you. I'm not sure how they would have done. I feel bad for Alex Smith. The coaches went with the player they thought gave them the best chance and that's his job as the coach. I don't think Alex Smith is that good, but I can't argue with how the team was doing with him. They didn't lose a beat without him tho. Like I said earlier, the situation sucked for Alex Smith, but you cant blame the coach for going with who he thought had the best shot
Beat out? That's funny. Guy gets injured, goes to the bench with a concussion and never starts again. Yep, he got beat out.

Alex Smith is probably 1 of the people in America I least for bad for. He was the #1 pick by SF and got paid a ton of $ because they took him instead of Aaron Rodgers. He basically aced the job interview portion of the process and they took him #1. He was useless for like 5 years then he got to be the QB on a very good 9ers team.
