Yeah...getting beat out/injured while getting paid to sit on your ass is a real injustice. :ohno:

I'm sure defenses will adjust to the zone read game, eventually. But for now, the mobile qb turns 11 on 10 defense into 11 on 11. It' eliminates a position. That's the advantage an average dropback qb can't overcome.

Don't think it will be huge... maybe a step or two

The guy only led his team to the SB in his first year as a starter. So, he falls short of playing if February and the OP lands his prediction. Not really sticking the neck out on a prediction like that.

He didn't get beat out. Smith got a concussion and was never named the starter again. Let's not forget Smith nearly took them to the SB the year before and had it not been for a special team's fumble, he may have been the QB in the SB two years ago.

i think smith and chefs both have great season

I don't see this happening. You don't go 2-14 and then add Alex Smith and everything is OK. He is avg at best and I don't even think he is that good. Just was in a perfect situation with SF when he played well. Playmakers with VD/crabtree, Gore in the backfield with a top OL and a top D.

That's getting beat out. Your coach is a former QB, who probably knows the old-adage, as well as anybody, "you don't lose your starting job to injury". Perhaps Harbaugh doesn't believe that, but it was only a matter of time before CK was going to be the man in san fran. You don't draft a QB in the 2nd round to be a backup. Smith was alright, but he struggled in several games early against the good defenses. Smith barely passing for 200 yards when defenses make sure Gore isn't going to be the one to beat them, isn't going to cut it. Yes, he helped them get to the NFC title game, but look at his performance, less than 50% completion and less than 200 yards WITH OT. It's so obvious the CK has tons more upside. His feet can beat you and that helps open up bigger passing plays. I'm not saying CK is an all-world passer, but the mobility tips the scale in his favor as the better QB. he makes guys like Crabtree that much more dangerous.

No, it's not getting beat out. How can you get beat out when there's no competition to get beat out in? A. Smith beat him out pre season and was doing great with the team until he got hurt. There was no competition after he got hurt. People around the league will tell you A. Smith got screwed in this situation.

How did he get screwed? Kaepernick was better than him last year. It is a meritocracy and 1 of the best coaches in the NFL chose to go with a different player.

After SF lost 26-3 at home to the Giants I think that is when Harbaugh knew they couldn't get over the hump with Smith at QB. He just isn't very good...

How did he get screwed?

How about being the first starting QB in NFL history to be benched after having a QB rating of 100+

How is that getting screwed? He had a few big games vs overmatched teams because he played on a stacked team. The fact he even got to be the 9ers QB in the first place and put in a situation to succeed was very fortunate. He was a FA before the 2012 season, why do you think pretty much no one went after him that hard and he had to re-sign with SF at a below what he considered a good deal.

He is mediocre at best and that will be shown over the next year or two in the NFL.

I like stats as much as the next guy, but you need to take a deeper look and see how he did against whom. Getting a 156 against Buffalo, a 43 against the Giants. Too much inconsistency.

Subjective. No sense in carrying on.
