don't tell me you were stationed in balad. that's where they'd fly us into before R & R and we'd be hating on everyone there because that's where the DFACs and hot chicks were at....you go from living in an iraqi police station with overflowing shitters to a small city with all the ameneties....plus in my first deployment to speicher, our afn went out every few months because the air force ran that shit and their deployments were so short it created 2 to 3 weeks of downtime....

anyways, no matter where you get deployed, mortars are a threat....i was at a jss and cop for 10 months, no mortar landed inside, but in the short time i was at the fobs, i heard of a half dozen guys getting killed....

Afghanistan. Right downtown in Kabul. Convoys in and out daily. That shit is no joke.

Not sure what you knuckleheads are talking about. My Nephew is in the AF. He has done 2 deployments and was in the shit both time. He is in the security forces and they went out on patrols and did mossions just like the Army or the Marines.

Always with the way you feel about politics. The military is not for you. I have been unemployed for almost 6 months now. On Sunday the job adds took only 1 page of the paper.

The AF security forces guys are doing everything any soldier or marine does. Our logistics folks are running supplies all over Iraq and Afghanistan due to a shortage of Army logisticians. The AF and Navy gets laughed at but it's okay.

lol. if you listen to me, i was in the shit. listen to enfuego, he was in the shit. listen to your nephew, he was in the shit.

think it proves the point that despite which MOS you choose these days, there is no safe job in the military.

Amen to that. And I am proud of every one of you MOFO's who enlist when you know where you might be going. :toast:

I'm not saying that though sooner. I have a good job and an easy job. I have a job that does not require me to go out and seek out the enemy with my weapon loaded.

Did I have to convoy? Yes I did. Did you have to convoy if you didn't want to? No you didn't. Were there car bombs or mortars? No mortars and only one car bomb about two blocks from the camp.

I guess I'm saying I never felt a threat. Was I nervous at times? You could say that.

If you are an AF maintainer you are not out in the shit. You are on a base repairing aircraft and a ton of our force are in the maintenance field.

what i was getting at, even if you're on a large base, you're under threat. both my deployments were to iraq, the first spent on a large base. i went out on a few CLPs, but other than that i never left it. one night, a barrage of mortars hit in the food court and killed 3 guys. shit was maybe 200 yards from where i was lying on a cot watching a fucking movie on my tv.

my second deployment i lived in a tiny building with an area that maybe measured 200 feet, and all the mortars seemed to land on the other side of the wall. and all the while squeezed into a fucking humvee and telling your guy not to shoot at the shit bag that looks like he's about to do something.

it's hard on everybody, but there are good times. the first month ain't bad, because you really ain't started your mission yet. the last couple months ain't bad because you start thinking bout home. all the shit in between sucks. i couldn't even play fantasy football in my last deployment because the yahoo fantasy site was blocked

I've realized its not what you know, its who you know.

I know too many idiots who are making a lot of money cause they got the connections and too many smart college educated people who are struggling .

I've ran into too many college grads working at Target or as a waiter at a restaurant and too many dumb illiterate fucks making 100K+ a year. Life is simply not fair most of the time and sometimes you need to catch that one break.

Try being a police officer or firefighter, they make a lot of money many over 100k a year with overtime.

i wouldn't worry too much about the criticism alwayz....i make 5,000,000,000,000,000 a year and you're an idiot. It's what you get for bringing a question like this up.

If you have the means and the time to go back to school, do it. In the end, college education pays dividends regardless of the market you end up entering. Anything to do with computers, or engineering i guess would be an easy answer. Find something you're willing to apply yourself to. The main thing is completing a degree. If you're unsure what you want to do, take up studies in something with as broad a range as possible so you can work those qualifications into a future resume.

And anybody who hangs out on an internet forum and criticizes someone for asking a question like this while claiming they make 6 figures a year is a fucking jerk off, whether they're lying about their salary or not. Fuck em.
