I dont know your full situation but with 70k in debt you cant just quit your job and start going to school. i'd suggest going to school before/after work part time and study a field you ENJOY. if you are just looking to make a dollar you will be miserable in your career choice after college as well. i know plenty of 30+ year olds who work 40-50 hours and take 6-9 units. but they dont have time to handicap either haha

When something is starting to affect your health mentally and physically a drastic change needs to be made...the best way to do this is what I am debating.

Yeah, I worked part time and went to school at CC for two years. It was a very good start and prepared me just fine.

I did the same and was making 6 figures about 4 years later. Granted I live in one of the most expensive areas in the world and was fortunate enough to work in Silicon Valley, but the nonetheless I was able to get where I wanted through a combination of hard work and schooling. As Enfeugo said, CC is a great start for your education and it's much easier to work while going. I did 2 years at a CC and one year at U of San Fran. I finished an AA degree in Economics and was one my way to a BA in Econ with a 2 minors- Spanish and Biz Management. I was given an opportunity to work at a start up company which worked out very well for me. It wasn't an easy thing to work in accounting and finance without a bachelors, but I continued to educate myself on my own. I went to the library almost every weekend to teach myself what my peers already knew. I also took some continuing education at Stanford U as well to enhance my business knowledge . I had to work much harder than my co-workers to excel, but I did, and moved up the latter ahead of a few people with MBAs. In a true meritocracy you can advance by working harder and smarter than others, no matter where you started or what your back ground is, the problem is that most companies don't work in that way.

Based on the way you write, Alwayz, I would high recommend taking some classes so that you can communicate in a more intelligent manner. Don't take offense, just some constructive criticism. It is possible to make something of yourself and earn a nice salary w/o a college degree, but I assure you it is MUCH easier to do the same thing with one. Either way, good luck.

I tap a tablet with a stylus to post on this message board. The majority of the time I don nott look at how my grammar or how my communication comes across when doing this. It is a big enough enough hassle posting this way.

I wouldn't change a thing. I went to the military right out of high school and I make over 6 figures every year in my current job. That's great money living in Texas...

I have been thinking of joining the military to get rid of these student loan. The only thing is I don't wanna be shipped off and killed for something and somehwere we have no business being in the first place.

Would anyone advise doing this at 30 years of age?

Well, I joined the military with student loans and they didn't take care of pre-existing loans so I don't know if your statement is exactly accurate.

As far as the military goes I will retire in 10 more years at 43 years old. I will receive a pension and medical benefits for the rest of my life. Is it hard? Yeah it's hard and it's hard being deployed away from your family but life is hard isn't it? Joining at 30 would still allow you to retire at 50 so think about it.

Jump in and get a guaranteed job that will keep you out of fighting on the front lines. There are plenty out there. First things first though....you have to understand the military is much bigger than you and your mindset will change. It won't be about you anymore. If you are a selfish person that can't handle authority then just keep doing what you're doing and be happy.

there are no jobs in today's army that will keep you off the front lines. i was a mechanic in the 3/7 cav doing patrols with the scouts, and there were cooks standing up in the gunner's turret and administrative personnel manning guard towers with iraqi police.....

I didn't say you should join the Army. Not joining the Army was the best decision I ever made.

lol.....if you're a marine, god bless. air force or navy, i'll keep the jokes to myself....

AF and it's all good. I've talked to a lot of Soldiers and Marines that say they wish they'd made a better decision but I've yet to talk to an Airman or Sailor that wishes they were a Marine or Soldier.

I've deployed two times right next to other members in other services. It's as joint as it's ever been.

don't tell me you were stationed in balad. that's where they'd fly us into before R & R and we'd be hating on everyone there because that's where the DFACs and hot chicks were at....you go from living in an iraqi police station with overflowing shitters to a small city with all the ameneties....plus in my first deployment to speicher, our afn went out every few months because the air force ran that shit and their deployments were so short it created 2 to 3 weeks of downtime....

anyways, no matter where you get deployed, mortars are a threat....i was at a jss and cop for 10 months, no mortar landed inside, but in the short time i was at the fobs, i heard of a half dozen guys getting killed....

Not sure what you knuckleheads are talking about. My Nephew is in the AF. He has done 2 deployments and was in the shit both time. He is in the security forces and they went out on patrols and did mossions just like the Army or the Marines.

Always with the way you feel about politics. The military is not for you. I have been unemployed for almost 6 months now. On Sunday the job adds took only 1 page of the paper.
