He'll struggle without the spread offense he had at A&M. They have to turn him in to a Russell Wilson type qb to succeed. Great run game, lot of play action, movement, etc. He'll never survive if he plays like the way he did the first preseason game.
Reading through their progressions or staying in the pocket under pressure are the two most difficult things to learn for rookie QB's who come from the college spread. Some make it, some don't. Russell Wilson is an extremely smart player and a very hard worker. So his learning curve was much shorter. I don't see Manziel as that type of worker, but only time will tell. The problem is you just don't hear about the Russell Wilson's and Andrew Luck's off field activities. Those players are very smart focused players. Manziel needs to join that club or he won't make it...period

The Browns probably won't do it, but I think Manziel would be much better off in the long run if they sit him out the first season. Right now he doesn't do a very good job of reading beyond the first option before wanting to run. That will eventually get you killed in the NFL. Kaepernick was guilty of this when he first came into the league. But he's getting better at it in his 4th year.

I agree, but will that aspect improve if he's sitting out a year, or playing through it and learning in the fire, what he can and can't do? It's a tough question. If he's mentally tough enough to get through the lumps, he should probably play, but since Hoyer is the better QB now, he should start and Manziel should relieve him later in the season when/if the Browns are out of it or Hoyer is struggling.

Right now it's just a matter of not getting your QB killed before he even gets started. When you see Manziel lowering his head early to just get out of the play, it tells me that he has a pretty long ways to go. You didn't see Andrew Luck doing much of this in his first season in the NFL. Probably for two reasons. He came from a more conventional offense in college. And he was a mature 4 year player that had seen a lot of defensive sets by the time he went pro. Not so with Manziel. I suspect there will be much more of a learning curve with him.

He really looks like a superior athlete out there, lmao! I saw a strong safety chase him down in the backfield. Now that is hilarious. He needs a Seahawks type team. He just got caught by a 2nd team D End as I typed this!!

If JFF was black....he would be 99.999% more likely to have sickle cell anemia.

Tonight shows how big of a difference a tenths of a percent on your 40 time is. It's the difference between someone like RG3 being able to breeze by defensive ends vs Johnny Manziel getting caught by a 2nd string D end. The Browns are going to struggle this year on offense no matter who plays QB. Especially if Johnny plays and Gordon is out the entire season. This is not college, his antics will not translate to the NFL, defenses are just too fast. And he's definitely not coming close to RG3 rookie numbers. It's hilarious some dude was trying to say he's as athletic as Michael Vick, lmao. Some people's kids.

This thread was funny.

Some people don't know the difference between skill and athletic.

They are 2 very different things.

I don't understand how so many people get the 2 confused

It's all in your perception of athleticism. I say athleticism involves hand-eye coordination, arm strenth, footwork, etc. as much as the ability to run 40 yards or jump up and touch a spot on a board.

Lol, even the Redskins know this. This was the comment that Manziel flipped them off for...

"I can tell you what the statement was that set him off," Redskins safety Ryan Clark told ESPN Radio's "Mike & Mike" on Tuesday morning. "The statement was, 'This isn't college anymore and these people are faster than you are.' He didn't like it. And that was me cleaning up the statement. That's pretty much what it was."

He is a superior athlete and isnt getting credit because he is white its cut and dry infront of you.

Lmao!! Last night he got caught by a 2nd string white D end. Like I educated you on from the beginning of this embarrassing thread. There is nothing superior about Manziel's athletic ability. Hell, Conor Shaw is more athletic than him, lol!!

Lmao! Still sticking to your ignorant statements. Anyone who watched the game last night and comes to the conclusion Manziel is as athletic as RG3 needs serious help.

I'm just an objective person regardless of color. That's why I list off actual statistics instead of conjecture. Manziel, who is very similar to Robert Wilson, is not in any way, shape, or form, more athletic than RG3. And definitely no where near Michael Vick. That's loon talk.

I don't know who Robert Wilson is but Russell Wilson is a very good athete. And under my definition of athlete I would say RUSSELL Wilson is every bit as athletic and maybe moreso than RG3. I would consider someone who is a professional in 2 sports to be pretty damn athletic.
