The U.S. can always be attacked, as it has in the past and will be in the future. However, if you think a force will occupy the United States, regardless of what it is comprised of, you are dead wrong. It will never happen. Not only is the U.S.A. a military superpower, but it benefits from it's geographical composition and location. Having oceans on both sides makes it almost unthinkable that a foreign force could launch a successful land operation in the U.S.

BTW...I NEVER suggested that nukes where the answer to this situation, and they obviously aren't. I just mentioned that it's in the back of many minds, although no one will talk about it.

For the future safety on American soil? yes.

Is it going as well as I would have liked it - no.

If that was a loved one getting his head chopped off I would focus most of my anger at the root of the problem not at the person pulling the trigger or the one chopping his head off.I really can not beleive how easy it is to influence public opinion through the internet and the mass media. We cannot beleive that the whole region hates us yet we are quick to say kill them all. Does one not see the irony of some of these statements?!?! You must put yourself in others shoes. It does get to the point where say a shareholder of Coca Cola or McDonalds says to himself and all those in his/her cirlce how backwards these people are for not wanting to eat McDonalds or drink Coca Cola. It is not as simple as that. However it does build a solid base of supporters who although primarily have a financial stake in capitalistic expansion and are now morally convinced that it is the right thing to do. Subconciously in the back of their mind the 500 shares of Microsoft that they own do play a role in their quest for modernizing these "backward" areas but they will never admit to that because it is now a moral issue. If Christianity was deemed fraudulent and made up by the Peso family would this be a justified war?It is fascinating how we critisize others fundamentalism yet we cannot escape from this self fullfilling prophecy that is going to in fact lead to WW3 if we do not change course.

This is what I mean by being in and out of fundamentalism. The Old Testament tells the Israelites to kill their neighbors take their wives as their own if they so desire and also to take their animals. At which point does a person say well that is not to be taken literally but the fact remains that this is "my" promised land not yours? It is almost like fundamentalism is not good for you guys because it promotes violence but it is good for "us" because it is the glue that keeps us together. Just like the Old Testament frowning about marrying the "daughters of man" yet all the aristocracy would marry just their own kind. It's going to make everyone else mixed yet "our bloodlines" will remain pure.

In fact I submit that in the 21st century, No occupying force or army, regardless of size, can successfully occupy another sovereiqn country without taking continued, sustained casualties.

Yes, the United States would be the most difficult for any force to occupy (in other words, TOTALLY impossible), but the observation applies to any country.

That is why our objectives in Iraq are doomed. We cannot hope to successfully occupy and control another country without taking sustained and continual casualties.
