I count 27 locks for the baseball HOF(ACTIVE PLAYERS) and a ton on the verge.

First of all Chipper Jones,Andrew Jones, Thome, Williams and Sheffieild you must be high!

Anyone who questions Pudge knows jackshit about baseball. He is by far a much better player than Piazza. Its not even close. A catchers job is to call the game and play great defense. He is so much better than everyone else defensively its not even funny. He is also an excellent hitter. If I was starting a baseball team and could pick b/w the 2 players in their prime Piazza would only make my team as a right handed DH.

Vizquel is an excellent shortstop, very clutch and has a ton of baseball smarts. However it will be tough to get in with all of the current HOF shortstops.

The only closer who belongs in the HOF is Rivera.

I hate Ramirez but he is clearly a HOfer. The braindead turd was born to hit a baseball. He constantly puts up phenominal numbers and is one of the best right handed hitters to ever swing a bat. He also probably can't tie his shoes or read this post.

Bagwell was a much better player than the other first basemen (including Mcgwire - I realize he isnt current-) but very underrated and these jackass writers who put clowns like Don Sutton in the HOF give Nolan Ryan the highest percentage of votes.

You bring up a valid point. However it is not a joke that Speaker is in the HOF, its a joke that Rose isnt.

entertaining post :103631605

Thome has a great shot and a shot at 600 homers

Andruw Jones by the time he is done will have a very interesting resume', a lok for 500 homers too.

I'd think Pudge would have to be a lock since he's the best catcher in the game.

I think Craig Biggio will get in as it is hard to exclude anyone (save Pete Rose) whith more than 3000 career hits. He needs around 150 more to get there. A 285 lifetime hitter with over 1000 career RBIs while batting at the top of the lineup mostly...

In 1997, he became one of the few players in baseball history to not hit into a single double play all season. He tops the Astros' career list in games played, at-bats, runs scored, hits and doubles. By the end of the 2005 season, Biggio had 2,795 hits, 604 doubles, 260 home runs, 1,063 RBIs, and 407 stolen bases. His accomplishments with the bat are all the more impressive for having played his best years in the Astrodome, a notorious pitcher's park.
On June 29, 2005, Biggio broke the post-1900 career hit by pitch (HBP) record, previously held by Don Baylor with 267. In the fourth inning of a game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, a pitch from Byung-Hyun Kim hit Biggio on the left elbow for his 268th HBP. He is currently the active leader in this category with 277, only 10 behind Hughie Jennings. On October 19, 2005, his Houston Astros beat the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Championship Series, enabling Biggio to participate in the World Series for the first time in his career. On October 25, Biggio became the first Astros player to hit and score a run in a World Series home game. He won the Hutch Award in 2005. Biggio is also the only player in Major League Baseball History with at least 600 doubles, 2,800 hits, 250 homers and 400 steals.

Baseball writer Bill James in the Revised Historical Abstract rated Biggio at the 4th best second baseman of all time and the 35th best player of all time, making a detailed argument that throughout his career, Biggio has been a better player than Ken Griffey, Jr..

He gets in over Bagwell who will probably be left out.. Biggio gets in on the 1st vote IMO:toast:

I agree. When I was initially thinking about this I short-changed him a bit since it's been a while since he's done anything really significant. Always liked the guy, great, great player.

Im going to make my case for some of the players that some of you disagree with me about.

JEFF BAGWELL

Jeff Bagwell is a career .297 hitter, just a few points short of the all-time hits leader Pete Rose. In reality hes really a .300 career hitter if you remove the last 2 season where he was hurt. I really think alot of people forget how good he use to be.

459 career homers.

The list of players with that many homers not in the hall is extremly short.

1529 RBIs

The list of players with that many RBIs not in the hall is very short, especially for a career .300 hitter.

202 Stolen bases for a 1st baseman!!!!!!

Thats almost unheard of in the history of baseball. Without doing any reasearch, I bet Bagwell is the all-time steals leader for a 1st baseman in the history of baseball.

Only first baseman in the history of baseball to go 30/30, not only did he do that, but he did it twice, one time going 40/30.

Won rookie of the year in 1991
Won the MVP in 1994
Won the gold glove in 1994

He was a tremendous fielder. The only reason he did not win 6 or 7 gold gloves is because he played during Mark Graces heyday.

He did all of this in the most unfriendly hitters park in all of baseball bar-none.

I will be back on my next post to defend my next selection.

I feel like im wasting my time having to defend this pick, but here goes.

Name 1 player in the history of baseball with 3000 hits not in the Hall of Fame.

ANSWER: NOBODY.

He is less than 150 hits short of 3000, and even if his career ended today he would still get in the hall.

I believe without looking it up that Biggio is the all-time doubles leader. If hes not, hes very close to 1st all-time.
One of the best leadoff guys in this generation, and he is still playing quality baseball as we speak.

.285 career BA
265 homers
almost 1100 rbi primarly in the leadoff spot.
Can play 3 different positions.
7 time all-star
4 time gold glove
over 600 doubles!!!!!!!
over 400 stolen bases

He beats Joe Morgan in every single offensive catagory except for SBs.

Here is another guy I cant believe I have to defend.

.298 career batting average
over 450 homers and counting. Almost a lock for 500+
1500 rbi!!!!!!!!!! and counting
215 SBs

9 time all-star!!!!!!!!!
Finished 3rd or higher in the MVP voting 4 times!!!!!!

Beats Duke Snider,Willie Stargell in every major catagory.

Been to the World Series with 3 different teams.

I have already removed Bernie Williams from my lock list after further review. I made the list rather quickly. But I stand by all other selections.

Who is the next player that someone wants me to defend on my lock list?

These days i think 500 homers doesn't mean too much. With smaller parks, roids, etc its been a hell of a lot easier for dudes to hit the long ball. 500 homers in the '90s isn't like hitting 500 homers in the 70's

Another thing...if you're only going by numbers compared to guys who are already in the Hall...then yea...i gues you can make a case for all of them.

But in my opinion the HOF should be for guys who played the game and DOMINATED during their playing days.

Half the guys that you listed didn't dominate. They were good, above average players. But over half the guys you listed I probably won't remember 20 years from now to tell my grandkids.

Unless their an Astros fan i can't see anyone telling their grandson about how great Craig Biggio was as a 2nd baseman. Because he wasn't great. He was good.

Its the HALL OF FAME. Not the Hall of Good Players.

Do I even have to waste my time defending Piazza?

Yes I know his defense sucked, but come on!!!!!!!

.311 career batting average!!!!!!!!!!

405 Homers!!!!!!! Most by any catcher in the history of baseball.

1223 RBI

12 time all-star!!!!!

Beats every catcher in the history of baseball in every major offensive catagory except for SBs.

Johney Bench Career batting average: .267
Yogi Berra Career batting average: .285
Carlton Fisk Career batting average: .269

Mike Piazza Career batting average .311

Johney Bench Career Homers 389
Yogi Berra Career homers 358
Carlton Fisk Career homers 376

Mike Piazza Career homers 405

Johney Bench Career RBI: 1376
Yogi Berra Career RBI: 1430
Carlton Fisk Career RBI: 1330

Mike Piazza Career RBI 1244

He will probably have the RBI title by the time he retires. But that is not necessary to get into the hall.

Jeff Bagwell hit his almost 500 homers in the astrodome. One of the biggest ballparks in the history of baseball. So Jeff Bagwell does not count. He is exempt from that.

The term "stone cold lock" implies if they were injured or abruptly left the game they would still be a shoe in

now go revisit your list and make some changes

Thats extremly funny.

I will bet you $1000 bucks right here and right now that Biggio is a lock for the Hall of Fame.

Answer the trivia question one more time. Name 1 player (Besides Pete Rose) in the history of baseball with 3000 hits not in the Hall of Fame?

Answer:

NOBOBY.

Hes less than 150 away and he is still playing quality baseball. He may even end up with close to 3500.

I dont care what you tell your grand kids, but if you take them to cooperstown 10 years from now, they are going to see a plaque with Craig Biggios name on it.
