I agree with you 100%.
Somebody I respect a lot, and who possess more insight of this industry than almost anybody; once told me this game was basically (just as a metaphor) like a poker table. You've got sharp players, mid-tier players and sorry ass players. If the sharp dudes leave the table, then the mid-tier guys will start winning. So why should the sharp dudes leave in the first place? And probably more important, why would THEIR money be allowed to leave the table?
We agree stongly in the fact that the indsutry model is flawed. Yes, sport exchanges are the future. But you still find action brokers, real bookers, who are sharp enough to make money out of their sharp action. They are brokering the action in the right way. Now that's a booker.
I know that the desired balance in the books is hard to attain, but books should book. Based on:
1. First and foremost, research. A solid number should be the product of investigation.
2. Opinion of the bookmaker; maybe the same as above, although not quite.
3. An open line of feedback. First hand info should keep that line sharp.
4. Last but not least, ACTION baby. Book to your action.
What's the picture nowadays?
Some dude comes up with a couple hundred of thousands. Buys a cople machines, pays the fee to DB... and voi la: we got a bookie. Right? WRONG. Nobody can make $$$ based on cloning, so when the sharp guys find these shops, the process looks pretty much as follows:
-Razor (player) calls in
-Numbnuts-Clone (bookie) gets the call
-Razor says: "i'm sending in 10 K".
-Numbnuts starts salivating, closes the deal
-Numbnut gets the dough and spends it. NO, NO, NO, NO. Did you ever get a grip of "post-up" concept, numbnuts?
-Razor hits numbnuts like a fvcking pinata, up and down, inside out.
-Razor calls in and asks for his money + what he's got coming.
-Numbnuts realizes BOOKING ain't as easy as it looked, he flakes out and stiffs razor.
-Numbnuts' kneecaps are gone, along with his car, house and woman.
Now some of these Numbnuts found out that by restricting "Razors", their profit of margin increase theoretically. But we all know the main reason for a business to go down is bad management to begin with.
Now there also are Razor-Bookies, who fed up of working 16 hours a day to come up with the best #, just to find out Numbnuts is indecently copying ALL and every number; decide to post a shade number to nail the cloning fvcker against the wall. And there you have it Numbnuts now has two fronts of attack and NO base of ground.
Result: PTS among many, many others.
The ability of a book to welcome professional players and actually pay them hassle free, is a sincere reflection of brains, real brains behind the numbers.
So, yes SPIVE, we agree brother:
