He came this close to call a guys preflop all in the k8 when the other guy had AA. If he would have called that, He would have lost the tourney. He raised 7mill preflop(not a bad thing in early position with a big chip lead) but the fact that it took him 5mins to fold the all-in raise told me alot.

Chop, I saw that and his 5 minute decision was to convince everyone else that he had a strong hand so it didnt look like he was trying to steal with his 7mil preflop raise. He was never going to call that all in

edit-I see others have already told you the same thing.

Im not saying he is not a nice guy. He seems like a very nice guy. As a matter of fact the WSOP has been very lucky the last 6 years IMO with the people that won besides that clown that won last year.

Hachem, Raymer, the guy this year are all good people.

Hachem is the only one thats won in the last 5 years that I would call an above average player.

The guy last night came very close to blowing his huge stack several times with weak hands only to get bailed out on the river.

His reads were bad. Hes luck was strong.

What kind of player would you rank yourself Chop?

How the hell can you diss Raymer when he damn near made the final table the year after he won it all (took a bad beat with less than 30 left). Also, Yang may have had the deck hit him hard (what winner hasn't), but the aggression he played with at the final table was perfect.

sammy is one of the best omaha players and it was no fluke the guy finished 2nd to the real fluke in the main event a few yrs. back. im sure sammy wins as much in the "big game" as he loses and i bet he has very few losing nights in the 4000-8000 game he plays in. ive always heard that the guys with a lot of money, see more flops. this is sammy. it doesnt make him a good/bad player. just means he is capable where others arent. just my opinion

As far as being able to "read" ppl and playing smart goes, I would have to say Annie Duke and Phil Gordon are the top two at that. But you rarely see them winning in the tournaments shown on tv. The few times you see them, it's either winning, losing or sucking out on an all in..

don't know much about him, but from what I hear, he is very good at PLO, but tends to call too much in NLH

that is the main difference I have seen between the two games....need better hand selection

At first, I thought Jerry Yang, good guy, generous (10% to charities)

But I think if he beat me I'd be pissed and hate him.....imagine this:

You look down at AA, he raises, you re-raise all in...he calls you with a mediocre hand (let's say JJ)....flop comes out 3 blanks, turn comes J...

...now this guy has hands raised "YES, YES, thank you Jesus, thank you GOD, I knew you wanted me to win, thank you GOD for showing me your miracles"......

...before the river comes out....."come on God, show everyone how you work your miracles and let this hand hold up"....river comes blank.

you lose, game over, worse hand not only beats you, he says that God wanted you to lose and that was Gods plan, for Jerry Yang to beat you at gambling??? WTF???

oh yeah, he ends it with "congrats, you now have a friend for life in me" :poop:

Like others have said, Sammy is known for being one of the best Omaha players in the world and above average, but not great at Hold'em. From Barry Greenstein's website, one of the best players in the world (top 5 for sure):

Sammy Farha

Best game : Pot-limit Omaha
Weakness : Any game except Omaha

Sammy may be the most feared short-handed pot-limit Omaha player in the world. He is so good that we only play Omaha with him in mixed-games with one or two other games added. Even though his fame came from his second place finish to Moneymaker in the 2003 WSOP finale, hold’em is not his forte. His fearlessness carried him through that event.

Amusing anecdote

Eight hands before the end of Day 2 in 2003, I drew out on Sammy and he got up from the table. He thought he was busted, but he had 5,000 more than I had. (80,000 was average at that point.) He said, “I’m leaving. I can’t do anything with 5,000.” I said, “Sammy, sit down and take a shot.” Sammy went all-in in the dark on the next two hands and doubled up each time. Of the last eight hands played at our table that night, Sammy was all-in before the flop on seven of them. He ended the second day with 58,000. Of course, Sammy went on to become famous as he cashed out $1.3 million for his second place finish in the event.

Goes into a pot with the worst hand ALOT and that to me is not the sign of a good poker player.

This guy has embarassed himself on HSP this year. I have watched 75% of these shows thru the years and he has played worst than anyone this year, than I have seen.

Sammy Farha Reportedly Involved in a Physical Fight at Houston Poker Room

TABLE OF CONTENTS

It appears that Sammy Farha lost another heads-up match, but this time it wasn't against Chris Moneymaker. The old-school grinder was reportedly involved in a physical altercation Thursday night at Legends Poker Room in Houston, Texas, and it doesn't sound like he won.

Rumors of the incident started on the A Prominent Houston Poker Live Facebook page Thursday evening.

Legends Dealer Spills the Beans

PokerNews reached out to a dealer from the card room who witnessed much of the scuffle.

According to our source, a former dealer at Legends who goes by the name "AJ," although others in the Facebook group have referred to him as "MJ" and "Amjad," had a longstanding feud with Farha. He said the dispute originated at Johnny Chan's 88 Social poker room, where AJ previously dealt.

Farha supposedly got AJ fired from 88, a nearby poker club that is currently closed.

On Thursday, that feud took a turn for the worse when AJ had enough of Farha lipping off. Per our source, he slapped the 2003 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event runner-up on the cheek and then shoved him into the wall screaming, "I'm from Detroit, b***h, we don't play around."

Management and other players stepped in between them in an attempt to break up the fight. Both fighters then lunged at each other before AJ apparently smacked Farha across the face. They were both asked to leave the club.

"The truth is AJ got himself fired (from 88 Social) for mouthing off to Sammy, even though Sammy was being a douche as always," the Legends dealer claims.

A second source told PokerNews: "I was told that Farha and the dealer had a verbal altercation some weeks ago. The dealer was fired because of it. He showed up that day to play and when Farha saw him he said that it was a problem for him to be there. The dealer heard what was said by Farha and confronted him. Words were exchanged and he slapped him. Farha ran behind the floor guy and said something else and the guy tried to smack him again, but didn't get a clean shot. I also heard that all dealers stood and applauded when it happened."

Sympathy for the Dealer?

While Farha seemed to get the worst of the exchange, many in the Facebook group believe he got what he deserved and sided with AJ.

"He is despised everywhere," one dealer told PokerNews. "He is not liked by dealers anywhere."

A GoFundMe was even started with the goal of raising $20,000 to assist AJ with legal fees that may spring from the incident. The GoFundMe included a still from a rumored video of the incident.

The description reads: "Lost his Job due to harrassment by a so called 'Poker Legend.' Then was provoked and finally decided to take one for every poker dealer in the Houston market. The punch heard around the poker world to Sammy Farha, has now found one of our very own in a legal matter. if you ever had to deal to him you know the badgering and harrassment Sammy has put every dealer through. We all know we have wanted to take matters into our own hands and finally someone did. Now let’s show some support and also raise some awareness that it’s not all about the poker player… it’s about the integrity of the game! No poker player is or should be deemed bigger then the game!"

Times Have Changed

Sammy Farha
Sammy Farha at the WSOP.
Sam Farha, now 62, is a three-time WSOP bracelet winner. But he'll forever be remembered as the runner-up to Chris Moneymaker in the 2003 Main Event. And also the player who folded to what many refer to as the "bluff of the century" during heads-up play against Moneymaker.

During the poker boom era, Farha was a fan favorite on hit shows such as Poker After Dark and High Stakes Poker. He played loose, fast, and with a smile.

These days, well, he's no longer playing the biggest games and has created an army of enemies. Many Houston poker locals on social media have gone so far as to offer to buy the dealer who clocked him into a poker tournament. Another suggested he'd never have to buy a beer in town again.

On Friday morning, Farha arrived at Legends Poker Room and was spotted outside speaking with a police officer as he was attempting to file a report on the previous day incident. It's unclear at this point if AJ has been banned from the card room and what course of action Legends will take.

Should AJ end up in the slammer, it appears there are some willing and able local poker players who would help pay his bail.
