Tampa and Pinellas County to the west have not been truly hit by a hurricane in over 80 years.

We are far enough north that most anything out of the Atlantic will be pulled towards the Gulf of Mexico and if it makes landfall anywhere south of Palm County wind and rain will hammer South Florida including Naples and Fort Myers on the Florida Gulf coast.

Up here, the approx 200 mile land mass south of us buffers us and most important the actual body of water Tampa Bay causes even more redirect westward away from land and out into the Gulf.

Legitimate upside for people in my industry is we can expect to see upwards of 3x to 5x (or more) in storm damage cleanup of trees, saturated landscapes and fencing repair.

My partners and I already prepped for big increase in phone calls starting midweek next

In the six year immediately following Hurricane Andrew, over 1.5 million people relocated to South Florida and employment was record breaking for over a decade due in large part to over $30billion in restoration work, new construction and implementation of new safety infrastructure.

I could choose to focus on the seeming 'tragedy' or I could choose instead to start immediately looking for what good might possibly be created.

I will of course not suggest to you where you should focus.

I sincerely hope your closest people and real estate holdings in SoFla combine to make the smartest decisions in the coming week and onward and that nothing but long term good outcomes affect all of you and yours

How can he declare a state of emergency if it hasn't even hit yet?

Are you fucking stupid? This "WILL NOT" miss Florida, cannot go East, cannot go West and cannot go South. Can only go North. This way the frenzy starts to take place enough time ahead. Already started with water and gas.

Stay safe everyone!! Hope Irma dies down somehow!

JustinCruise, cancel your trip and get a refund or voucher for next time, I'm sure they offer that as everything will be closed. Better to do it now than later. Also, don't put the lives at risk of your family bro. Not even something to think about.

You're right. Was able to reschedule for November.

All the people in the path of this monster are in my thoughts

guys that are already on disability or workman comp will go with the pain and suffering albeit with a soft tissue injury to vertebrae .. doesn't pay as
much the real kicker is the 8k in lost wages piled on top BUT theyre already driving equipment down there for guys up here so
theyre getting multiple income streams even if not maxing out

guys up here with 30k base coverage to non attached structures on home owners policy are "softening up" those targets as we speak ahead of the storm moving up north.. park ya vehicle next to the structure and you got a double whammy though it takes some time when the car insurance and home insurance underwriter try and get the other to pay for the vehicle after a non attached structure falls on it.

newbies that are not on disability yet can really hit the jackpot on this one.. lost wages..disability and then the glitch that lets you collect unemployment while on disability.. a check for car .. if your a home owner check for car+ unattached structure.. if you have children they will be in the car also.. this is a massive opportunity
