SS - It is solely a matter of ethical behavior, do you or don't you cheat, or steal. Many people in this world do cheat or steal, and even more seem to condone it. There are others who choose to live honestly, even when it comes to gambling. Do you think it is alright to hide an ace up your sleeve in a poker game? You claim you are not accustomed to comments of an insulting nature, yet you have no problem with saying
quote:
but before you guys paint danny as a thief & have your butts so far up the heads of the books...remember, they are also ruthless & will phuck you any chance they get.

Are you not the pot calling the kettle black?

quote:
last post tonight - really! But the only entity I can control the ethics thereof is myself - I cannot control what anyone or anything like a book does. 'Ethics' are how I face the world - when I get extra money credited to my account by mistake, I report it. I don't think twice about it, because I like who I am and I'm not interested in sacrificing that integrity for some extra cabbage.

very good point jazz, & funny thing is I truly beleive it from you & wil...but when 60% of the thread starts piping in with their ethics & morality it makes me wonder...as I said before I beleive it is politics...

SS,

wilheim did not insult you because he had an "if" in front of it which clearly does not apply in your case.

There were several issues in this one case and they should be treated separately. You claim that the mods think it's OK for a book to do what Intertops did ie. hang a bad line and cancel after the fact. I would expect that all mods here consider it an unfortunate thing and that if a book paid the bet they would consider it a class act. And they wouldn't say it just to suck up to the books. I think the same and I get zero dollars and zero cents for saying anything good about a book.

That was one issue but there are others...

To me it seems you fail to appreciate a couple of things:

1) That it DOES matter whether the line was off by "a couple of points" or by 10 points because in one case it is obviously wrong and in the other it is not. The rules at most books cover cases of lines being obviously wrong. There is naturally grey territory somewhere but it is not at the 10-point level.

2) That Danny knowingly misrepresented his case which causes a large number of people (myself included) to think about it, feel a bit sorry for the guy, wonder what book it was, and take the time to give a constructive response to a guy who seems to deserve some help and/or feedback. Then the truth unfolds and it turns out we were betrayed. We put the effort into it for nothing. In my case it's no big deal but there were hundreds of people, including the mods whose time was being wasted. The mods' time getting wasting is bad for all of us because it takes attention away from real problems, of which there is no shortage these days.

I see nothing wrong with the mods saying that they'll be happy to help players with legitimate concerns at no charge, provided they don't lie to them. To expect more than that from them is to expect too much out of life which deserves at least a bonk on the head with a fish

right now.

How about this then...

lets say he explained it exactly the sme way but admitted he pounded the under becauz he knew it was 10 points off...

to me...it shoudnt be a case of "class act" to honour the bet...it should be MANDATORY....why you ask...becauz while there may be people like danny who will pounce on the chance to pound a bad number...there are 'innocents' who are playing in good faith...you may heckle..but I am sure there are tons who dont check closely as rx'ers do. In order for a business to maintain integrity...it must...at a very minimum...cancel prior to the game starting....

SS,

As far as I know most books have a clause in their rules which say that if the line is obviously wrong, all bets are void. I'd even go as far as calling this rule the industry standard. If it applies both ways (ie. for winners and losers alike) and it is mentioned up front in the rules then where is the ethical problem? Of course the best is to cancel before the game because then the question doesn't even arise.

In Nv all books must have there rules posted so the public can see them and every book has a rule that if a game has a wrong spread the bet is voided and the money is refunded so it is pretty hard to take a shot like this in Nv and expect to get paid
