If you can rep 180 for 12, there is NO WAY that your max is only 200. Try it sometime....You should be able to put up at least 240 if you're doing that....

For your second statement, I agree, but it depends on the sport and position.

Obviously being a little exaggerated... I can put 200 up but not easily... My arms and chest are not amazingly strong and I just started my summer sessions three weeks ago so endurance is all I am really working on... I am nto a power kid more speed so not trying to get big at all...

I can probably put up close to 220 but no way 240... If you saw me you would understand I only weight 165... And am only 5'10... So when I bench i am all about muscle endurance and not strength... So I really can't do as much as another person who can do 3 sets of 12 at 180...

Take some MetRx AMPED....That shit has me wanting to kill someone in the gym. Obviously if you are overweight and/or have heart problems I'd stay clear of it but if you are relatively healthy and less than 40 give it a try.
You`ll die 10-15 younger..For that stuff do not hunger

That isn't how it works. If a guy can do 12 reps with 180, but he never handles anything more than 180, NO WAY he will get 240 up for a max. He'll get pinned like a bitch and maybe crack a couple of ribs. He might have a tough time getting over 215 if he never goes higher than 180 in a workout. I remember in high school when I had a few years of lifting behind me and I could get 5 reps with 185, but couldn't do a POUND over 205. Then I started a routine of 10 set of 1 rep maxs, and got my max to 240 in about 10 weeks.

The manej makes ISU's baseball team +600
The manej gets cut -900

Well if I don't make the team I am playing club so there is 100% chance I play baseball next year... Your odds are kind of generous... I have a friend on the team so I luckily got the in and get to work out with them...

Odds I play baseball are 100%

I think I will probably get cut from the team and have to play club but it is worth the try... Just building up my arm from my injury and it has taken 3 years to get it to 90%... Excited to play whether I start on club or sti on the bench with the team...

in all honesty might be better to start on the club team and have a good time traveling to Florida and stuff then it would be to sit my ass on the bench and be a defensive replacement in like the 9th inning... If I made the team I'd be shocked to get more then 5 AB's all season... so it wouldn't be as fun... But worth the challenge

couple of photos ive seen of you you are kind of built like a catcher.....keep lifting and do squats for endurance behind the plate if you can hit at all very valuable

Haha I play Center Field... Have my whole life.. Not really built like a catcher.. that picture is kind of deceiving because I have so many clothes on... I am only 5'10 and 165 pounds... Skinny with decent speed... very good defensively and very average-below average, college baseball wise, hitting... Maybe I can improve on my hitting because it has been a while and hoping the added strength will help me... But never a catcher... Filled in a couple games in travel ball but outside that could never catch... Not big enough... Would be a fast ass catcher though haha....

Benching anything more than 8 reps is silly and murder on your shoulders.

I can do 365 3x, or I was before I had this damn nasal surgery.

12 reps is what I do with the guy I train with... If your shoulders are hurting doing 12 reps you are probably doing to much weight... and possibly doing it wrong...

To each his own I guess. I feel like I can concentrate on form better when I do 8 reps or less, while still working on endurance.

Max outs are pointless and stupid... Endurance is all that matters... What can you do three sets of 12 at... I can do three sets of 180 12 times... but My Max is really only like 200... More endurance then strength....
What is bullshit, trebek?

You pull so much shit out of your ass it's not even funny. 12 reps of 180 is equivalent to like 250 max bench, at least. There is no possible way you can only max at 200 but do 12 reps of 180. Let me guess, Laurent Robinson spotted you for bench too?

I'm surprised this slipped by boxslayer. He usually catches the bull before anyone.

Also many athletes who play D1 sports or pro sports will agree with that statement... Endurance is what is preached not who can put up the most weight... but who can put up the most weight the most times..

It depends on what you are training for. No Collegiate Program trying to weight train baseball players of all sports, where flexibility is extremely important to maintain a fluid arm stroke, is going to weight train for mass.

Lower reps = You Gain Mass
Higher reps = Maintenance, strength, endurance

If you try to train for mass in baseball, you large muscle groups in your arms like biceps and triceps will get too large and your small muscles, ligaments, etc like your rotator cuff wont be able to support it.

Not to mention you are going to get too stiff.

There is no right or wrong way to weight train, as long as you are doing it towards the appropriate goal.

I have no concerns with athletics now, I am training for mass and strength. The best and most efficient number of reps for mass and strength training is 6-8. Baseball players will do sets of 12-15 on everything except legs, where they will do 6-8.

I disagree with that statement. If you can do 12 Reps at 180, you can put up 230+. Yes, your muscles get trained with endurance as in higher reps, but your strength also increases. If you put 240 on the bar, you'll be able to handle it and it wont fall to your chest. They have calculators online that compare things like this also....
