I've got two plays I'm liking for tonight.
Alabama (-28) over Western Kentucky ***
Last week was a classic letdown spot for Bama against Tulane. Scoring 34 against a much better Clemson defense and then scoring 20 the next week should tell you something. Nick Saban is pissed at Bama's performance last week, saying he wants his Crimson Tide to make a statement this week. And he is so intent on this that these were his exact words. "The guys that don't do it and don't buy into it the way I just said it, they're going to the scout team. And then from the scout team they may be going out the door". The players claim this has been their hardest week of practice. I like this play. Bama gets back on the wagon before they head into conference play.
Ohio State (+12) over USC **
There are no guarantees in this game. But the more I look at it the more I think that Ohio State has the possibility of being the "Running Dogs" in this spot. Beanie Wells or no Beanie Wells. Despite what we saw USC do in their first game against a rebuilding Virginia team, the Trojans are still dealing with a having a rebuilt O-Line themselves. That's why I think OSU has a possiblity to be the winner in the rush game. If they are then I think they cover this spread. I have alot of respect for USC, but when it comes to matching up the BCS conference flagship teams from the SEC, PAC-10, or Big 10 or Big 12, a double digit spread seems like alot of points. I had this game capped out at USC -4 this summer. So this is a pretty big difference. And I think most of it is just typical television ratings hype, and the poor showing we saw last week from OSU is driving this line. And USC kiss ass Mark May coming on ESPN saying "this game won't be close" also helps us for the blind sheep that follow him. This is a small play because I know how things can get out of hand at USC. But OSU is an experienced deep team. And I think they can hang around.
