What verdict could make you right?

Countries have tried to do what you just said and failed miserably. UK realized it was a no go very quickly, Sweden just a few days ago as well. China tried to restart up and look how that is going. You are right that mistakes were made at the outset which has led to the exacerbating of this issue, but that is a different subject for another day.

Anyway, I think we have a different subject for this thread so we'll have to comeback to this fun stuff later.

I don't want to be right. But having an economy that's completely destroyed would have most second guessing right ?

It's awful funny how this thread turns to me when in reality, the subject of the thread is Governors lying about their real COVID related deaths in order to secure the most Federal tax dollars they can.

We KNOW what you are trying to do. You have 35+ threads about one topic. You are trying to save your ass now, but it’s too late. The gig is up.

How dare you question whether keeping the world economy thriving is more important than quarantining the elderly and people with pre-existing conditions Red Eye?

How dare you.

There are absolutely reasonable arguments to be made about cost/benefit analysis of this pandemic.

But downplaying the severity of it, calling it the flu, comparing 100k deaths to 324 HRs in MLB, questioning why sports leagues that have 20-40k people in attendance are shutting down, telling people it'll be over in a month and to wash their hands, shitting on anyone that asks questions about how this is going to change American life is a piss poor way to do it. To do that for a solid month and then comeback with "Ahh yeah, I think it is serious but I just mean the media is bad guys so I wasn't wrong about anything" is ridiculous.

And I wasn't riding EF hard until he brushed those critiques aside.

And that is my critique in this thread

Alot of the measures taken were based on false worst case scenerio predictions of millions dying from this...

What would've happened had we aggressively quarantined everyone 65 and over and aggressively quarantined everyone with pre-existing conditions while everyone else kept the world economy thriving.

You would've had young people out of work for a few days with a fever and cough and then they would've been back to work.

Would people have died? Yes. Do they die every single year from the flu? Yes.

Guy starts an innocent enough thread "How will Coronavirus change the world"...I think we can all agree this is a legitimate question at this point.

What is EF response to him?

"Did the Swine Flu change the world? Nope. Fuck off."

So we're now comparing it to the swine flu and saying yeah there won't be major changes?

Wow, EF PEGGED this shit and I am way out of line to question the content of his posts.

The Governor from Connecticut just said in a press conference tonight he now doesn't know how this 6 month old baby died and only the medical examiner knows. This guy is a liar.

This is happening all over the U.S. in relation to the COVID death rate. They are lying to you people.

Most , including me compare it to the flu ..not sure why that's so farfetched.. No one is saying that it is the flu or its exactly similar to the flu , but comparing it to the flu shouldn't be condemned..

Some on this forum for whatever reason don't want to look at this position.. Or have a reasonable response

Don't worry about Red Eye. I'll be the bad guy, the liar and the dummy. Like I'm the only guy with these opinions.

It's not farfetched but yet, we're the idiots.

In its most simplest form, sure. A sickness that can kill vulnerable people....That's about it.

Beyond that? This is going to be way more disruptive until a vaccine is found. The flu doesn't shutdown world economies and overwhelm hospital systems. So you have to put it in that context, when someone says "Oh Washington shutdown their state, have fun with their little 8 hour flu and cough", I'd say they were downplaying the severity of the issue and could offer the rest of us a few mea culpas.

Not telling you to get in the middle of a stupid message board spat, but he clearly blocked me very quickly because he knows what I'm saying he doesn't really have an answer for. Unless he just said "Yeah, I downplayed the severity of this in the most obnoxious way possible", which isn't gonna happen.

Chop, I believe this situation has been blown out of proportion yes. It's not an unpopular opinion.

What else?

So on 3/2 you said the NBA was over blowing the situation by stoping the season but on 4/3 you say “of course they made the right decision “
Then the very next post you go on to say they still blowing out of proportion.

Do you realize how dumb you sound ?

I would try to explain that to you but it’s not even worth finishing the sente

Of course its going to be more disruptive. We've gone down the path to make it more disruptive.. I'm making it as simple as possible Pats since I'm more of a common sense guy.

Like I said, that is a different subject altogether compared to his content that I am questioning. However, I've said I think it is a false dichotomy (i.e once you get to early/mid March and we're behind, don't think we're exactly loaded w/ choices at that point) Trump sees this as well, why he went from "Open by easter" to finally telling people the hard truths of the matter. Just a harsh reality of the moment

There is a reason no country is going with the herd immunity strategy.

Lemme restate...Comparing this to the flu as a way to downplay the near-term severity of this issue is disingenuous.

Chop, in my mind, we had three viable options in responding to this situation so I'll go slow since I sound dumb.

1) Do nothing. Looking at the totality of the situation, that wouldn't not have been the right thing to do.

2) Full quarantine. I don't think this is the right move either. It's unnecessary and it's crashing our economy.

3) Aggressively quarantine everyone over 65 and quarantine everyone with pre-existing conditions. In my mind, this was the right move.

Did I originally think the NBA was overreacting? Yes. Looking back, do I think they overreacted? No. Do I think we should be back now with an aggressive quarantine for the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions? Yes.

What is wrong with what I've just said? I believe right now, we are blowing this situation out of proportion and we need to return to work. I'm not the only one with this crazy opinion.

Ok, call me dumb. No problem.

None of us has ever seen or ever been involved with a situation like this.. strong opinions most likely are going to clash... unavoidable I think

What's going to clash, specifically with me, is someone calling me a liar. I draw the line in certain places and that is one of them and I don't apologize for it
either.

Guys can call me wrong, call me names, call me whatever. It happens daily here. I don't like a certain few things and will just use the ignore feature. Real simple solution.
