Here are the facts that are the best to support the decision.

#1 Because Pats didn't call a TO, the Seahawks could only run the ball TWICE.
#2 Pete Carroll chose not to run it on Play #1 because of the personnel matchup.

Not saying that was right, but that's the only defense.

He likely would on 2nd down as Wilson didn't pull the ball out the entire game.

Exactly. The Pats would have absolutely keyed on Lynch in a Read-Option situation, that's why I said that. Wilson reads, and pulls it out there. If you don't think Wilson wants the ball in his hands there, you're nuts.

Just brutal: that play was the 1st time all season a pass was intercepted from the 1 yard line.

The play call is indefensible. Lynch was wide open to the left. You either throw a touch pass to him or a fade to Kearse. You can't throw that pass in the middle. You just can't.

supposedly , he was anticipating a rub on the defender but another Pat's defender (Browner?) prevented the other receiver from getting off the line

Then you can't really run on 3rd down though. Makes 3rd a de facto passing down.

You likely wouldn't be able to get a play off on 4th down and even if you did it would be a clusterfuck racing against the clock.

I would have been fine with 3rd down being a passing down. Then you can run it on 4th if you want. I still say you don't pass it until you have to.

ESPN was breaking this down like the Zapruder film and Wilson could have walked into the end zone if he had tucked it an ran to the left instead of throwing it.

Yeah, the Pats DB's did what they were supposed to do and broke up the play. If Wilson is a $100 million QB he should have seen how Browner was lined up and ran the QB dive!

I'm still trying to digest this.

I'm am neutral fan and can only imagine being a true Hawks fan. No WAY I get over this any sooner than week 1 2015.

BRUTAL!

Been watching them for 39 years. By far the worst loss in franchise history. Gonna be a long day.

“We sent in our personnel. They sent in goal-line [defense]. It’s not the right matchup for us to run the football, so on second down we throw the ball really to kind of waste that play. If we score we do, if we don’t, then we’ll run it in on third and fourth down. Really, with no second thoughts or no hesitation in that at all. And unfortunately, with the play that we tried to execute, [Butler] makes a great play and jumps in front of the route and makes an incredible play that nobody would ever think he could do. And unfortunately that changes the whole outcome.
“A very, very hard lesson. I hate to learn the hard way.”
:think2:

It doesn't seem as if Pete learned a lesson there.

It's not true either, because Patriots had 3 CBs on the field.

it was the misuse of time outs that cost them the game both taken with the clock already stopped :ohno:

And this has what to do with Lynch not getting the ball on the 1 with .26 left to win the SB?
After the miraculous catch, yes the Seahawks should have won the game. But they were still +200 after they crossed midfield before 3rd down. Seahawks didn't deserve to win the game any more than the Patriots did. They probably each win 50 if they play 100 times.

the sequence of plays was surreal. if PATS call time out, Seattle doesn't throw the ball and probably win the game. I had NE and was lookin for the beast to get the ball and missed the play. Anybody that had NE got a gift and I say "thank you" props were the easiest that I ever saw in Vegas. I mean NE punt or score 1ST and punt was 7/5. then who was going to have most penalities, passing yards and passing attempts were a gift from VEGAS

I agree with you but you're talking about Brady scoring two TD's in the 4th quarter. I'm saying it doesn't matter what he did and nobody cares what anybody did going into the play where Wilson threw the pick. With .26 left, what happened before the plays is irrelevant.

Barnwell breaks it down pretty well. I forgot about that Falcons game and how that unfolded, between that and GB I definitely think it probably influenced Seattle getting too cute with the time in that spot.

If they just threw it on 2nd incomplete and ran Lynch 3rd and 4th wouldn't be discussing this though. Also shoutout to Hightower for the tackle to stop Lynch on 1st and GL, unsung hero play.

Well, you said Brady was giftwrapped the game, and I say he earned it and was clutch, just like usual.
