What are we talking about here? She walked into a strangers home and killed him for no reason.

That should be enough for life behind bars. Bitch got extremely lucky only getting 10 years and their community should be outraged.

Mistake or not, doesn't matter, she took a life.
Their community? WTF are you on about? So, all killings that are not self defense should be life sentences with no regard for circumstances?

I would say this is a typical sentence for a situation that appears to be a mistake no matter how dumb. Either way she deserves time. I'm fine with it and would be fine with 25. But you need proof this is intentional for a straight murder charge and longer sentence. It is that simple. This is pretty standard. There are reasons there are different kind of charges for killing someone. But a mistake as a citizen is not an excuse to not be held accountable
You get your law degree from a box of Frosted Flakes? You need proof a killing is “intentional?” What does this even mean. We aren’t talking about a car accident here bub

What circumstances? That fact that she walked into the wrong apartment and took a guys life for no reason at all??
Imagine how you would feel if someone did that to a person you love.

I understand the circumstances and in my opinion 10 years is light. The poor dead guy doesn't get to come back, she will.

You think it was a “mistake” just because she said it was? Wow, I never would imagine someone who got caught killing someone would lie. I think the jury who listened to weeks of evidence and testimony has a bit better grasp of her believability than a dude who read a two paragraph story about the case

that’s a helluva mistake to make dude , wtf ? are you related to the bitch or something ?

Is there a difference between her and a serial killer? Obviously. That is all I am saying. If you believe it is not a mistake then you believe she waited for someone to happen to leave a door open....murder them and claim it was a mistake. Possible but seems less likely than what she claimed. As I said I am fine with whatever the sentence is I am just saying is there are different kinds of murder/manslaughter and you have to prove she was lying. These situations often get sentences like this whether they are deals or don't have the proof needed

Lol um she admitted to killing him. You’re attempting to say one needs to “prove” she was lying that it was accidental. How does one go about “proving”
something only she knows?
Our justice system is based on “reasonable doubt,” not “proof” goofball. Does her story make sense? And the answer to the empaneled jurors was NO

And no one thinks the circumstances of this case is a reason she only got 10 years If she admitted she killed him just because she wanted to or didn't like him you don't think she would have gotten much longer sentence?

Probably a bit to do with her being a cop

It is one hell of a mistake - but am I to believe this woman (whom to the best of my knowledge does not even know this guy and has no criminal history) one day decided she was gonna open her neighbors door and buck him down for no reason whatsoever? both make about the same sense to me

I think 10 years is light... but personally wouldn't have given her more than 15.

I don't think she did it on purpose.

The yellow placemat outside his door which she didn't have. Even if you're tired you still have to walk right over it. Then the door is unlocked, ok you take out your gun but you're On the DEFENSIVE. No she takes zero notice of her surroundings and just starts shooting at an unarmed person without any warnings.

A few things. My wife buys our mats that go outside of our door. I have no idea what it looks like and if it were switched out, I'd have no clue. Honestly.

Sure, the door being unlocked would make me very nervous. That isn't normal.

Starts shooting at an unarmed person. Well, she didn't know he was unarmed but that's beside the point. She shouldn't have just started firing at anyone. Why not just turn around and run out the door?

I find her story totally plausible but her decisions that night to be ridiculous.

Let me break the news to you. People kill people all the time and don't get life behind bars.

Agreed. There's guys spending more time behind bars selling dope.

Sentence was far too light for murder

her attorney said the apartment complex building layout was confusing & it wasn’t unusual for people who lived their to enter the wrong apartment sometimes believing it was their own ( um... o.k. ) she parked on 4th floor ( she lived on 3 rd floor ) so they don’t have numbers on the parking garage walls like #3 or #4 , etc...... , she didn’t notice any numbers anywhere your just supposed to keep count in your head which floor your on ? . the states attorney argued that she was distracted & not paying attention ( no shit ) because she was exchanging explicit text messages with her police partner whom she had a sexual relationship with & missed numerous signs that she was on the wrong floor . & after shooting the victim she should’ve done more to help him instead of complaining to the 911 operator that she was gonna lose her job & then texting her police partner .
