- - 5 selections in a field of 30 with no long odds is not a recipe for long term success, and this is in an event in which I don’t recall doing very well since omg Chad Campbell @ 40/1 back in 2003 . . . I feel comfortable with my play on Tiger, and I feel there is no way I can give a shout to Matsuyama, but after that I feel I’m just guessing among a large number of other players with legitimate claims, including Horschel . . . I don’t really think Bubba is going to be your winner, but I’m just looking for a betting interest on someone at more than 28/1, and then I decided I like the look of Cameron Smith better. Finally, just on the basis of wanting at least one more play, I’ll let Webb Simpson carry my cash even though I’ve been wrong on him both good and bad for at least two seasons.

Ryder Cup:

Top American:

Webb Simpson(20/1)
Jordan Spieth(+850)
Tony Finau(25/1)
Tiger Woods(+750)

Top European:

Ian Poulter(10/1)
Tommy Fleetwood(+750)

Top Combined:

Ian Poulter(16/1) e.w.
Phil Mickelson(40/1) e.w.

- - I doubt the first pairings impact the odds too much, but just in case I'll get my plays in now. I’ll opt for more choices and fewer e.w. wagers.

- - I’ll take a stab at guessing the first day pairings:

1. Reed & Spieth
2. Woods & DeChambeau
3. Simpson & Johnson
4. Fowler & Thomas or Fowler & Mickelson

1. Fleetwood & Rose
2. Poulter & Hatton
3. Molinari & Noren
4. McIlroy & Rahm

1. Spieth & Thomas
2. Woods & DeChambeau
3. Johnson & Koepka
4. Fowler & Finau

1. Molinari & Fleetwood
2. Rose & Stenson
3. Poulter & Rahm
4. McIlroy & Casey

- - With a task force and Presidents Cups and priorities and player relationships, I think the angle of Europeans being a more connected team is a thing of the past. I think the venue offers a solid home field advantage. I know the spectator experience and the television visuals from Le Golf National will have a spectacular flavor.

- - Already looking at Koepka (with Johnson?) and Woods (not with DeChambeau?) as having crucial afternoon matches.

- - Not keen on much in the afternoon except any possible ticket the U.S.A. has of holing 100 to 200 feet of putts per match absolutely starts by hitting fairways.

As I stated yesterday at daybreak, I was expecting that Koepka and Woods would have crucial afternoon matches. As I feared, both were big asks.

If there is to be any drama on Sunday, Koepka and Simpson have crucial matches.

I should have made my Sunday plays as soon as the lines became available, because every one except Woods has moved significantly against me, so much so I shouldn't even bother with a play on Molinari.

Thomas(-125) over McIlroy
Molinari(-250) over Mickelson
Woods(-125) over Rahm
Hatton(-110) over Reed

There's a good chance I'll add plays on Poulter(+120) and Simpson(+140) because it's been such a good season I can make lots of plays between now and Christmas just for the heck of it.
