According to an ESPN report, Mayweather's odds to beat Manny Pacquiao have fallen to minus-180 in the MGM's sportsbook. For those keeping score, when the odds for both boxers in the fight were originally posted, Mayweather found himself floating above Pacquiao at minus-275.
MGM assistant sportsbook manager Jeff Stoneback told ESPN that three times more money has been bet on the underdog, Pacquiao, than on the favorite, Mayweather.According to that same ESPN report, one gambler at the MGM Mirage bet $50,000 on Pacquiao not just once, but twice.
Despite Mayweather's shrinking odds, ESPN did manage to confirm a couple large-scale bets on the undefeated fighter. Ed Salmons of the Westgate SuperBook told ESPN that a "large six-figure" bet was made in favor of Mayweather, and John Avello of the Wynn sportsbook said a "small six-figure" bet was placed behind the favorite.
And at the MGM, the total amount that has been wagered on the Fight of the Century is close to reaching a million dollars.
"For a month away, the handle is astronomical," Stoneback told ESPN.
When you're set to have Mayweather and Pacquiao inside the same ring, astronomical is to be expected -- it just comes with the territory.
