Look who he was behind? What kind of statement is that? He had time to learn a very complex system and is ready to go. I am as big of a #4 fan as anybody but its time to move on as a business.

Then why would they draft not 1, but 2 qb's in this years draft? If he was going to be a top level NFL qb they would have went out and tried to sign a veteran as insurance not draft 2 young quarterbacks (1 with a high draft pick). I'm not sold on Rodgers and either is Packer management.

Many of those guys had numerous starting oppurtunities before they were succesful. gannon was not a hit at Washington. Me and you must have different ideas of succes if Aaron Brooks if he was succesful, just a hunch but are you a Lions fan?

Actually I am a Raider fan. Brooks was actually pretty damn good for a while with NO. By no means great, but he was a serviceable QB for about 4 years. Of those guys, only Brunell (10), Anderson (15), Brooks and Rivers (ALL 16 HIS 3RD YEAR) started anything more than a handful of games before their 4th season. Brooks shouldn't be on there, he actually started a bunch of games in his second season. There are loads of Qbs that road pine early in their careers and went out to be quality QBs.

Forgot to add Romo who didn't start until mid-way through year 3.

I think I was comparing it more to following a legend when I named the Elway, Montana, and Moon situations. I dont think following up Jeff Blake in New Orleans or Jeff George in Oakland counts.

I was referring to Homedawg's comment that if he were any good he wouldn't be rotting on a bench for three years.

That is somewhat true though. He was a first round pick with some trade value. No one else on your list where first round picks except Rivers and he didnt sit very long. In fact the team chose him over a Pro Bowl QB.

Wrong, Rodgers has been "learning", preparing, sitting, the successor, whatever you want to call it, for only 3 years. 2 of those years the Packers were held hostage by Favre and his retire don't retire bull shit. How could they trade him? Who would have been their QB? Trading a guy you drafted with the singular purpose of succeeding Favre is retarded unless you (i) get someone young who you think is better; or (ii) find out he sucks.

Neither has happened, what would make you say he has "rotted" on any bench? The list of QBs that had high level success in their first three seasons out of college is far shorter than the list of those that didn't have success until after that third year. Many, many QBs "rotted" for a few years before starting and went on to have good success. To wit, and just off the top of my head:

Hasselbeck
Brunnell
Brad Johnson
Rich Gannon
Philip Rivers
Delhomme
Bulger
Warner
Garcia
Aaron Brooks
Derek Anderson

And whoever said Aaron Rodgers is "injury prone", he never missed a game in college and, albeit he is not playing, hasn't been injured since.

yeah this list makes me excited. How many of these have won a SuperBowl?

what's the point of trading him when he was drafted to replace Favre?
and, when could they have traded him? When they drafted him Favre was "one more year" and played that stupid game each season waiting longer and longer to make a decision. Favre never committed for more than one year at a time, starting with the year in which Rodgers was drafted. Any trade would have been done with the risk that Favre retires and Craig Nall is the only QB on the roster.

You won a Super Bowl?

2 guys won Super Bowls, 3 more played in one and two more played in Championship Games. With the exception of Brooks, if Rodgers is as good as any of those guys the Packers will be just fine. You can add McNair to the list too, who "rotted" until season 3. Make that another guy to get to the Super Bowl too.

Favre to Fox News: Packers should let me play elsewhere

<!-- end page tools --> <!-- begin story body --> <!-- template inline -->MILWAUKEE -- Brett Favre finally is speaking for himself: He wants to play but doesn't feel welcome in Green Bay, so he's asking to be released.
The quarterback's first substantial comments on his latest retirement decision reversal come in an interview with Fox News on "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren."

"I am guilty of retiring early and there is a reason for that," Favre said, according to an excerpt provided to The Associated Press before the Monday night broadcast. "And the major issue is 'Why did he retire?,' and 'He asked for a release because he doesn't want to play in Green Bay.' That's not true. And I hope people are hearing this and saying 'OK, that clears it up.' "
