Everyone here is talking like this is such a slam dunk. It seems like a good deal but theoretically thinking about moving somewhere cool like Thailand is easy to talk about, but actually picking up and moving around the globe to a strange land is hard to get your arms around.

I've also got 2 dogs that I would have to figure out what to do with, I suppose my parents might take them...

I agree...I have way too many animals to place. I was just basically saying I've always wanted the opportunity at a job to move, and still do, but Thailand wouldn't be one I would ultimately think would be thrown at me. Thailand would be the bomb for me as far as Muay Thai goes, but it would definitely be a lot harder to move to, especially now more than 10 years or so go.

Ill take your dogs. Remember me well when you get that $25k bonus and come pick your dogs up. :)

Only one can decide what's best, you'd be sacrificing time away from family, dogs and things you love back home for a more than good offer in a foreign country that you know nothing about. How old are you Harry?

One of my partners went to live to Thailand 4-5 months ago and he is already looking for a way out. He complains place doesn't fit his lifestyle much and that the country is making his staying harder than it should be. He is a coder. And this is a guy that has been living abroad for the last 5 years, in Chile, Paraguay, Peru, Colombia and Mexico.

How many time are they offering you over there? That and the assurance you'll get a job back at home are the most important things. You will be able to gamble online play at the major sites and gather lot's of money and life experience. Thai girls are hot as fuck, that adds up. You sound like a strong alcoholic in recovery, being one myself (not on recovery) I think you can survive the partying scene over there. If you take this and succeed your bosses will love you even more (they seem to throwing that strong offer), you will learn a lot of shit about you, cultures and life in general and probably come back in 1-3 years with a shitload of money, maybe even enough to start thinking retiring early. If you feel homesick, well you can always but the company of 3 ladies 24/7 lol.

Think about this, you are a succesful poker player, you'll have more bankroll, almost 3-5 times your current one, as your raise will cover it and your limited expenses in Thailand will allow. You could really turn into a pokerstars mtt monster.

Maybe you can make it to the Asian live poker tournaments as well.

Some very good advice in here, thanks for taking the time to post it.

I'm 33 years old.

Why doesn't your friend like it over there?

I do definitely have a job upon my return.

You said "How many time are they offering you over there?", I don't know what that means. :)

Awesome, I'm 28, we are not far off.

My friend is an American adventurer, and a entrepreneur... his main concern is that the migration authorities were not being very cooperative with his VISA. I figure if your company sends you over there they help with that and already have a process with migration.

Also, my friend is used to the warm people of south america, Chile/Colombia, the warmth of the people might be different, more exploitative towards Americans than in south america! Maybe that's a factor, knowing him BUT I do recall telling me about how he missed certain things from home and especially craved for tech savvy people/places. He is sick of not speaking the native tongue, says conversations in English are rare and almost always not satisfactory. Isolation could be a possibility, but maybe you mingle with the right people unlike him. He basically wants a little bit of suburbia, guess he is homesick after 5 years. So that's that.

Job on return, man sweet!!!

And I meant how many years are your bosses expecting you to stay?

I also recommend you to check the ask me about Thailand thread I posted a link for in this thread, from page 1. Many info about daily grind and prices, plus info on hot spots, food and posters that live over there and could be of some kind of assistance.

Oh it's a 1 year assignment.

I read through that whole thread a year or so ago but I will have to revisit it. Thanks for bumping.

Bro if it's only 1 year I seriously advice you to go for it. From an outsider perspective it looks too sweet to pass up. It's a total +EV situation. The things you love about the USA will most likely still be there when u come back, rich as a motherfucker.

I can tell you another thing Harry, there is a chance you might not like it over there and regret and have to suck it up for a year (50/50 chance) but I can assure you if you don't go there is an 80/20 chance you regret this later. We are built like this, we grow old looking back at all those moments we didn't rise to the occasion.

For one year it is worth the risk....time goes by fast....I am quite happy over here and there are other things besides golf and women....online poker in your room is easily doable....PM me if you have any questions...I am in Vegas now but returning to Thailand next Friday...

As the saying goes, you almost never regret what you have done but almost always regret what you haven't.

This is the reply of the thread right here. You are getting a huge pay increase, plus they're paying for cost of living expenses which is huge, you're doing the company a "favor" by helping where needed, get to see somewhere totally new to you, and it should be a great experience. You wont have the same flexibility once you're married with kids. To me all signs point to yes on this decision.
