Very rare that a team wins early in the EPL, for the most part it goes down to the wire. Aside from the passionate fans that want to win every game regardless, you have the relegation battles, chase for automatic CL places, a spot in the UEFA cup and of course the title race all going on between 20 teams.
You'd be hard pressed to find a 'meaningless' game anytime of year.
Also with FA Cup being a knock out style bracket competition there would be no need to introdude that to the EPL and besides the current format works very well.

Here Arsenal had to win by two goals on the road at Liverpool or Liverpool were the Champions. The lead 1-0 the whole game.....

If Chelsea and Man Utd end up reaching the FA Cup semi's, their Prem League match at Stamford Bridge will be rescheduled as the last game of the season. Sky TV etc are all hoping that the title race is close, so the game is the league decider like the Pool/Arse match you just posted.

gl on your picks joey, they are all sensible picks imo, but i do have a little fear about the chelsea game. have a feeling boularouz will take up the mantle alongside cavalho and chelsea win by a few goals, then everyone will go "what was all the fuss about?!".

Chelsea defence has been shite, as has been said. My fear is that Villa just aren't performing well at all anymore. After such a great confident start, its just begun to sunk in that the squad needs alot of new players. I was very close on pulling the rigger on Villa+1 and Charlton +1.5. Still undecided.

Good prediction, i think that's exactly what's going to happen. Last game was more Fulham playing nothing like Fulham that shocked Chelsea, last year's Chelsea would have won those games with the luck they had. But i hate taking road favs for more than one goal, Villa are playing for a point, they have been poor but apart from the lost to CHarlton, it was a tough schedule, tonight, they will do whatever they can to frustrate chelsea, so i can understand Joey's reason.
