Yeah, don't agree at all. Do you have kids?

no. i have just lived the life since 13 and think there are many myths out there that people who haven't lived the life would believe. i was a kid and hung around with kids who did become addicts and kids who never touched anything. the prevailing difference was that some kids were comfortable with who they were and made their own decisions, without giving in to peer pressure, because of upbringing. they weren't scared by stories of abuse horror. the rest of us were lost and not confident in anything. we had no answers, so we turned to ambivalence and destruction. everyone was warned about addiction. it doesn't matter if you can't deal with life any other way. nobody in history, young or old, has been scared into not using chemicals in the history of the world. that is a myth. i really don't think you are qualified to be having this conversation.

EnFuego works for the DEA/ATF guys, I would post with precaution, he is obviously interested in maintaining the war on drugs :hammerit

Obviously anyone who has not suffered addiction or at least lived with someone who has does not have enough knowledge to give a solid opinion on the matter, in other words, they are talking out of their asses.

Harry,

Do you have any long term damage from being an alcoholic? Did you ever have elevated bilirubin, liver enzymes, blood cell count, fatty liver or anything?

Touchy subject in here, haha!

Drug use of any kind is considered a disease when you're out of control & its the called an addiction.

There are people that can take drugs/drink alcohol their whole lives & keep it under control.

Weekend drinking alcoholics.......same with drugs, they only do it on the weekends.

What separates these social drug users from the addicts? I'm assuming something in the brain.........

When I quit drinking I had high blood pressure, diabetes, and fatty liver disease.

My bp was 190/110, my fasting blood sugar was over 180, and my liver enzymes were 7x upper limit of normal.

Was on blood pressure meds and metformin.

Within 6 months of quitting drinking it was all back to normal.

Currently no issues. Just had a checkup, bp 117/79, fasting sugars are 78, liver #s normal

Funny story I went to the prompt care after work one day with a broken rib (from rough housing with the nephews). It really was broken but I didn't like pain pills cause they limited my ability to drink all night. But I went anyway cause my best friend had back problems and couldn't get enough painkillers prescribed.

This was after work and I was going through serious alcohol w/d. I had stopped at the liquor store already on my way home, but hadn't drank anything. During w/d my blood pressure would go crazy.

At intake my BP was 200/130 and they wanted to admit me to the ER cause they thought I was having a stroke. I convinced them it was white coat syndrome and asked that they check it on my way back out. Purported to have left my wallet in the car and went out and took a big pull of 100 proof. Came back in and it had lowered enough that they let me go, pills in hand.

Side note that "best friend" I got these pills for ended up fucking and impregnating my wife while we were still married.

Crazy world.

I`ll say it`s a choice.....You made the choice to do it.....Why can`t you make the choice to stop.

And there`s plenty of programs out their to help with your problem.

I have never been into drugs or alcohol for that matter....And i`m lucky that none of my parents or siblings ever had a problem with either.

I always had the impression that people who are on drugs and alcohol are unhappy....And that`s their escape.....Drugs and alcohol make them happy and that`s how they get through their days.

Who knows....Good luck Josh!

HC did you hear that? It's a choice. All you had to do was make the choice to stop. Did you ever think of that? So simple yet so brilliant. Smh

Also about people who do drugs or drink are unhappy isn't accurate. Some of the biggest urges I had to get fucked up was when I was at my happiest. Just got a 8k bonus check? Sweet lets go get fucked up.

I just need need to stay out of this thread because it's annoying when people talk about things they know nothing about.

Haha yeah whatever, some people just don't get it. Good for them cause that means they've never been close to the destruction that a lot of us have.

HarryCaray.....thanks for sharing. There really is no reason to listen to or argue with people that don't call it a disease. They are just judgmental pricks, plain and simple.....they only look at life through their own lens and are incapable of even attempting to understand others' realities. I guess it makes them feel better about themselves.

The good thing is that their opinions don't mean shit. I have my own issues, alcoholism is not one of them, but we all have our battles. I started doing much better when I stopped giving a shit about what anyone else thinks. Just like a blind man cannot see, there is no real capability of a "normal" person to understand something they have not gone through. However, there are some people in this world with hearts of gold.....typically they are wounded and have been through a lot of difficulty, softening their hearts with compassion for others. Find those people, they are your true friends.

Of course it isn't a disease. Hepatitis, TB and Diabetes are diseases. Putting coke up your nose or drinking until you black out is not anything similar to those 2 things.

Josh Hamilton is a weak minded, pathetic loser.

This whole "I have a disease" thing is just a function of the puss-i-fication of the Western World.
