DJax's 2009 MLB Picks - Season Thread

Sticking to my guns, going with a lot of the same teams for tomorrow. I cut a few out and also will reconsider adding to the card tomorrow, but for now I need some sleep...here's what I have so far (these are official, and all 1 Unit):

Moneylines
Rockies +155
Padres -120
White Sox -105
Oakland +240

Like I said, there will probably 1-2 more plays tomorrow but I just don't know as of right now...gotta clear my mind a bit I think lol

Adding one more: Tampa ML-110 for 1 Unit

I think they're going to turn it around soon, their offense and starting pitching are too strong. I'm hoping to jump on to catch their first big hot streak which I think is coming very soon. I also was still tempted to hang in there with the Royals and Reds but their bullpen and offense, respectively, just aren't giving me much confidence lately. Gonna play it a little safer til we turn things around with a few winning days. GL everyone! :toast:

Looks like its time to call it quits as far as making my own picks. Quitting while you're ahead isnt always the most attractive option, but its usually the smartest and safest option. Like I said last night, I've always had bad luck with all kinds of things and I was surprised to see how well things started this season because it takes a lot of good breaks to have the GREAT success that my picks had. I'm no fool though, I realize that gambling is so much luck and I'm not messing with it anymore. I've seen enough in the past couple days to realize that lucks not on my side anymore and its time to give it a rest.

Plenty of tough breaks for wby far the worst night of the season last night, and now followed up by a +240 ML dog losing on a walk-off because they couldnt push a single run across in the last 7 innings vs a mediocre bullpen...and at the same time thats going on the Padres and Rockis have allowed 2 runs in 17 IP combined, yet a 1-1 split is the BEST case scenario it appears since theyve scored ZERO runs. Brian Giles should not be a no. 3 hitter, even on a little league team by the way...he singlehandedly cost us that game, which will inevitably lose. Unfuckinbelievable breaks the last few days and I just dont think messing with luck is a smart idea anymore.

Most likely I'll be taking a long break after tonight...barring an unforeseen turn of events. Thats it for my rant...Goodbye

Thanks buddy...lets see if we can get 2-0 in the night games. I'll stick to it if we can turn in a 2-3 day but if we go 1-4 or 0-5 after the disaster last night, it might be good to take a break while I re-evaluate things. I'll definitely be around the forum and eventually start making picks again....its a very long season. Its just smart to take a break when you've had success and things start turning the other way.

*P.S. I hope you stayed at 1 Unit or close to it the last few nights...doubling up wouldve really come back to bite you unfortunately. Sorry about that but thats why I stressed to stay as consistent as possible.

What hurts is that the Reds and Royals won tonight- 2 teams that lost for us last night.

Ya and they were the two I was closest to adding in but didnt. Ouch. But if Rays hold on to this lead at least its not too terrible...we can give it another try tomorrow if 2-3, -1 Unit is all that happens today. But ya, we really shoulda had a winning day today with a tiny bit of luck or if I made one or two different decisions on close calls so its definitely frustrating.

Well despite the 2-0 night to somewhat salvage the day (at least averted another disaster), I still feel like luck isnt on my side thanks to the Hornets meaningless shot with 9 seconds left to lose me a rather large bet by 0.5 points.

I'll have my usual strategy working tomorrow, but I warn you...if you believe in good/bad luck like I do, be careful followin anything I touch right now.

Hope everyone had a better start to the week than I did. I really need a strong finish starting tomorrow!

Not a terrible day for MLB picks, had some real brutal losses though so it seems worse than it was....not to mention every potential pick I backed out of won pretty easily. I can't by a break right now, had some big losses in NBA tonight and one of them was heartbreaking. So luck isnt on my side still and I could really use a nice day tomorrow to turn things around

I know what you mean Ninja...I feel pretty good about today. At least until Royals decided to go 1 for 9 with RISP and strand 7 runners in 6 inn so far. Hopefully Meche and the bullpen can keep the smallest of leads. Really need this one to start the day...

Looks like another absolutely BRUTAL loss to start the day guys. Like I said lucks just not working for me right now...not so much just the record, but seems like almost every game has been ridiculous losses...

Like this Royals game, Meche deals an absolute beauty for 7 innings and the Royals decide to fo 1 for 10 with RISP, strand bases loaded no outs, left at least one other runner on third less than 2 outs, and now have just made an error in bottom 8th to blow the lead and likely cause them to fall behind. Meche gets taken out as a result of it and now we get the shitty ass Royals bullpen

Another 0-1 to start the day with probably the most frustrating loss yet (and thats realllllllly saying something at this point)

what do we need to get some decent luck guys, any ideas???

***next pitch after I posted this, Grady Sizemore wins it for Indians officially...all runs basically unearned and to be honest Royals offense should put the game away a long time ago. No luck lately, just fuckin ridiculous. I can officially say that barring a 3-0 finish to the day, I'll be done making picks.

i think you keep plugging away. it takes balls to put your picks out there and it is not easy. just keep plugging away. nobody is faulting you and keep working hard. that's what i would do. if you have a bad stretch, acknowledge as you are and eventually it will turn around.

Ya thats true...I'm not trying to fool anybody. I'm clearly admitting things are going south right now so hopefully people are being careful with my picks. I just need to vent when some bullshit losses happen. Like I said its not so much about losing, I cant stand these losses that really shouldnt have happened...much rather lose 10-1 and know its over in 2nd inning lol

If I didnt add another game, I would be pissed off no matter what the final result of the day ends up, so I'm taking a shot. Clearly my original method isnt working so great right now so I'll stray from it on this one pick and try to catch little luck and get it back on our side

Calm down a bit bud. If you think you're going to win every day, you're just fooling yourself. Baseball is a long, long, long season and you will have several runs of 3-4 day losing streaks, maybe longer. It will happen to everyone on this forum (including me). Just listen to your own advise and don't chase. Stop adding plays as well. It's only going to get you in deeper. If something wasn't a play when you first did your analysis, chances are not much has changed to make it a play suddenly. You're still up a solid number of units two weeks into the season. If on day one of the season, I told you that you were going to be up over 20 units after two and a half weeks, what you say to that? You'd probably say "that's be great, I sure hope I can do that." Well you did do it. Ride out the losing streaks, they suck, but they happen. You'll be alright, I'm pulling for you. :toast:

I definitely don't plan on "chasing" ever though, I think thats always a bad idea. This is really the first time I've added a play partly out of frustration so I've stayed pretty disciplined for the most part...just gonna go a little "on tilt" for this one play. Besides, I actually like the play after I looked into it.

I know I'm gonna have some losing streaks but not to the tune of 4-15. When you start blowing through 2 weeks of winnings at that pace, I just think its smarter to consider quitting while your ahead, thats all. The main reason I'm gettin angry, though, is because this isnt just a losing streak...its a losing-in-the-8th-inning-or-later type of streak lol I just need to let off some steam I guess, because these terrible chokejobs are driving me nuts
