President Obama made an excellent point this week about violence committed in the name of God and religion. It just happens to be the exact opposite of the point he intended.
In his speech to the National Prayer Breakfast, the president declared we have no right to “get on our high horse” about modern terrorist acts, given the “terrible deeds” committed “in the name of Christ” during the Crusades and the Inquisition.
We’ll leave it to others to sort out the history here, and to address the extraordinary bad taste the president showed in invoking Christian misbehavior from the Middle Ages at a time when innocent Christians in places such as Iraq and Syria are being beheaded and even crucified for their faith.
What strikes us is how unaware the president is that the bad Christian behavior he invokes is powerful evidence against his own refusal to concede those carrying out jihadist attacks around the world today have anything to do with Islam.
Yes, Christians have done terrible things in the name of Christ over the centuries. But here’s the rub: No one denies they were Christians.
Wouldn’t it be ridiculous to speak of the Inquisition without acknowledging the inquisitors were Christians? The same goes for Southern slaveholders who cited the Bible’s ambiguity on slavery to justify their practice.
So how is it the same man who lectures us about Christians doing bad things in Christ’s name cannot acknowledge the obvious point that terrorists such as those claiming to be avenging the Prophet Mohamad as they gunned down cartoonists in a Parisian newsroom were Muslim?

Nor are Christians blowing up malls, flying airplanes in to buildings, or selling children into sex slavery.

GENEVA (Reuters) - Islamic State militants are selling abducted Iraqi children at markets as sex slaves, and killing other youth, including by crucifixion or burying them alive, a United Nations watchdog said on Wednesday.
Iraqi boys aged under 18 are increasingly being used by the militant group as suicide bombers, bomb makers, informants or human shields to protect facilities against U.S.-led air strikes, the U.N. Committee on the Rights of the Child said.
"We are really deeply concerned at torture and murder of those children, especially those belonging to minorities, but not only from minorities," committee expert Renate Winter told a news briefing. "The scope of the problem is huge."
Children from the Yazidi sect or Christian communities, but also Shi'ites and Sunnis, have been victims, she said.
"We have had reports of children, especially children who are mentally challenged, who have been used as suicide bombers, most probably without them even understanding," Winter told Reuters. "There was a video placed (online) that showed children at a very young age, approximately eight years of age and younger, to be trained already to become child soldiers."

The "fatwa" issued by the Sunni Muslim fighters would potentially affect four million women and girls, the UN resident and humanitarian coordinator in Iraq Jacqueline Badcock told reporters in Geneva by video from Irbil.
"This is something very new for Iraq, particularly in this area, and is of grave concern and does need to be addressed," she said.
Speaking to BasNews, a spokesman for Mosul police, Ahmed Obaydi, said: "Baghdadi's decision to have all women circumcised is, as he claims, to prevent immorality and promote Islamic attitudes among Muslims. The decision was made by Baghdadi as a 'gift' for people in Mosul."

Among the classic, repeated Hamas slogans is the one in which the group’s fighters declare that that they “love death” more than their declared Israeli enemies “love life.” The Iran-backed terror organization has gone to enormous lengths to brainwash Palestinian children with that ideology.
Reports began to emerge early this year of deepening Hamas efforts to establish schools to train teenagers as combatants. More details emerged late last week of the latest efforts, which involve training 37,000 teens aged 15-17 in urban warfare:
“The youth can join military wings of factions, they don’t need military training at school,” Hamas program director Mohammed Siyam said.
The training program began in September 2012 in schools throughout the Gaza Strip amid preparations for a war with Israel. The program included weekly lessons on weapons fire, rocket-propelled grenade launcher as well as urban warfare.
The students deemed highly competent were invited to a Hamas military camp operated by Kassam officers. In March 2013, Hamas hosted 5,000 teenagers for the two-week military course that included a mock attack on an Israel Army outpost.
Summer camps of this sort have been in existence for more than a decade, and have been met with an ebb and flow of international outrage.
