Devin Hester is already a Hall of Famer in my book.

I think the only way he gets in is

A) Gets into the 30's for TD returns
B) Has 3 or 4 1,000 receiving seasons before his career is up while hitting the low 20's on TD returns.

i stand by this thread.. he's the greatest ever at his position and usually has an impact on the game. how bout all the returns he's had when he didnt score, but set the team up for an eventual score.

he'll end up with several more return td's and will deserve entry into the hall..

What would really be interesting is how many of those TDs won the game or led to victories. If they didn't impact the game then who cares? His returns are less than 5% of the touches in an NFL game yet he should be in over an every down offensive or defensive player? No DHs get in and neither does Hester.

i'm not putting him ahead of some other player. i'm putting him in because he'll deserve to be in.. so you're basically saying that if a running back who scores a shitload of touchdowns and rack up huge numbers does for a team that loses all the time, or those scores didnt impact the game, he doesnt get in either .

lets see, there are 3 phases of football . offense, defense and special teams .. hester is best ever at one of those... welcome to the hall of fame.

Vai Sikahima is in the Hall for a lot less than what Hester has done. Some think Brian Mitchell belongs too.

Setting up the team for a score contributes to winning the game and leading to victory. He doesn't have to have the game winning touchdown to impact the game. As evidenced last nite, he scored for the team on special teams(and offense) and set them up with good field position all game

A KR/PR touches the ball less than 5% of a total football game. He is the equivalent of a DH in baseball and they don't get in. I'm not saying he's not a great KR/PR but guys like him don't go to the hall. It's that simple.

baseball hof and all that weirdness doesnt matter. apples and oranges.

if a PK or a P can get into the HOF, the greatest returner in history can most definitely get in.

Definately one of the best but his position is not looked at like a regular starter. No chance he gets in.

I am kind of surprised a punter isnt in. If lineman and coaches can get in i think a couple punters should be in. Definitely ray guy atleast.

So help me out and name a punter currently in the HOF.

Dont know if there is because I dont really care enough to keep a list of HOFs, but if memory serves there is definitely at least one PK in the HOF and if that's cool with the voters, the undisputed best returner of all time who shatters every record should be a cinch to get in at some point

I could make the argument a punter is more valuable to the field position game than a KR/PR and most might agree but a punter is not currently in the HOF.

If you're going to make an argument that a punter is in the HOF then you should probably know if there is one in or not for sure. BTW - He is not the undisputed best returner of all time.

Sammy Baugh was a great punter and is in the HOF...but he was also a damn fine QB...
