This was a great thread Ice. We are here to argue and gamble in that order. I am sure all of us have learned something from this thread. I know I have.

Guys it's impossible to compare players from different eras (bigger, stronger, faster, different game etc) You MUST compare a player based on the competition he faced during his time. (except for basketball, long story) Both Ice and Jman are correct!!! Ozzie was the most dominate shortstop of his time by far, best shortstop ever!!! And as the years go by, players become faster, bigger, thus having more range, it will be more and more difficult to see the 1986 Ozzie Smith, starting for any big league team decades from now. Just 18 years ago Tony Mandrich was on the cover of SI (he also took roids) for benching 225 an unheard of 39times. Now many players are able to do that no big deal, just goes to show you how fast things change.

OK. I have an Ozzie Smith wet signed official National League baseball given to me as a gift. It is encased and in mint condition. Unused, i.e. not played. Anybody want to guess what it's worth now that Ozzie is in the Hall of Fame? Also, have Billy Martin and Mike Schmidt.

15-time MLB All-Star shortstop known as "The Wizard" for his dazzling defensive plays. He won thirteen straight Gold Glove awards from 1980 to 1992 and helped lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a World Series Championship in 1982.
