Could Browns trade for DeShaun Watson be the worst in NFL history?

Yep that is one obstacle. But I think they are willing to take it

Browns fans were actually pretty opposed to Watson trade even before latest legal revelations. They really like Baker there
Last year there were rumors about Watson to Miami. Many had said (speculation) that he had to have his legal battles over with in order to make the trade.

I was skeptical about him coming to Miami as i dont love him.

He is an awesome QB but he also lead the texans to a 3 win season 2 years ago when they were supposed to be a super bowl contender.

Awesome fantasy football QB but will he win you games? I keep thinking of the colts game a few years ago when they were down by a few and he fumbled inside the 10 yard line in the last minute of the game

They’ve been looking to trade him. Browns don’t want him on the roster, Mayfield wants out, etc. Doubt they run it back with Mayfield given all the drama. This isn’t exactly a Jimmy G situation where it’s known he’s got one year left, but everything is pretty smooth otherwise

They will probably trade him to Carolina if I had to guess. Seattle an outside shot but far less likely.

I can promise you Mayfield will be a Brown this year .

The Browns still at 18-1 to win Super Bowl is pretty nuts

Pretty decent chance they finish last in the division

Based on what? I get he’s under contract but plenty of time to send him away still

Follow up question: do you think he’ll start?
If Baker is on the roster week 1 and Watson cannot play, then i think he starts

Otherwise its Brissett.

The browns may be waiting to trade Baker depending on if any starting QB (or capable backup) gets injured during pre season

The results are in on the Walker trade. This Watson deal needs several years before it's worthy of consideration.

Calling it the worst trade ever now is akin to calling Mahomes the GOAT two years ago or thinking Kimbro is going to surpass Mo

Browns are -2.5 vs Carolina in week one. Lots of value there as Baker will have something to prove if he plays and overall...Cleveland has a very good roster even if Mayfield has to play.

Even with the Browns week 1 record of 0-16-1 SU past 17 years, I agree the Browns will win over Carolina.

it’s pretty safe to say the trade is already bad. 1 year suspension minimum, now QB turmoil with a win-now roster

Browns clearly didn’t plan for these additional allegations to come out (though they would never admit it)

I think its insane to give any Qb that much money that hasnt played for over a year like Watson.......& to top it off, the legal problems he was going thru.

The Browns have had bad management for a very long time.

It’s all guaranteed too. Most guaranteed $ in NFL history and doesn’t matter if he ever plays a down lol

Cleveland traded more draft capital for Watson then the Vikings did for Walker .
Yes the Vikings also threw in 6 players but only 1 of those 6 players were impactful .

No pro bowlers , mostly backups besides Solomon .

Considering the fact that Cleveland gave up more draft capital then then the Vikings for a player that is almost certainly not going to play a single down this year , and it’s far from out the realm of possibly that he may miss significant time beyond this year .

To say this trade should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as the Walker trade is ludicrous .

I’m not even factoring in things like Watson himself being a very polarizing player to the fan base of the browns as many season ticket holders have cancelled season tickets .

And before someone post oh but Dallas drafted emmitt smith and Darren Woodson with 2 of their picks .

You can’t judge it like that .

They did not trade for smith and Woodson . They traded for the draft picks .

If Houston donks on the picks they get from Cleveland that’s a separate issue .

The trade was for draft capital not individual players .

And the saints 3 or 4 years after that made a trade almost just as bad as the Walker trade .

Basically traded 2 and a half seasons worth of draft picks to get Ricky Williams who was fairly average .

Some of these quarterbacks should be patient as after 2-3 regular season weeks, the Dolphins will be desperate to pay anything to get a starting QB.
