I would not carry anything but a glock. glock 23 gen 4 is a great carry gun. .40 cal

look how many law enforcement carry glock.

Sig Sauer is great gun too.

I carry a Glock 27 off-duty, which is a .40 cal, holds 9 rounds and the gun is very small, hence the nickname "Baby Glock." The Glock 23, which is also a .40, is another nice gun to carry off-duty or for conceal.

I carry a Sig P220, which is a .45 cal, on-duty, and have so for over 23 years. I've never had one problem with either gun.

I don't personally care for a 9MM, but that's just me.

Yes. Generally speaking, you want to have the pistol unloaded and compartmentalized (in the console, glove box, or gun case) and any magazines or ammunition in a separate area of the vehicle. In a gun bag in the trunk or in a separate compartment from the firearm. This is the best approach if you do not have a CCW.

In Texas you can carry a loaded pistol in your vehicle as long as it's concealed. You can place it under your seat, or anywhere you can grab it quickly as long as it can't be seen. You don't need any type of permit to carry it in your vehicle, only if you wish to conceal/carry.

Not to get too personal but why do you reckon you need a gun? Do you live in a dangerous area - lots of break-ins and carjackings and such?

I have a lot of friends with guns, I have never owned one and frankly don't understand the need for one. Trust me I'm not talking down to those that pack, it's their right...I just never even considered it as something I would want or need to spend money on.

I have a threaded lead pipe under my bed. If someone breaks in my house I am waiting by the door after calling 911 and if my bedroom door opens he's getting a mouth full of metal.

At least that's my thought process.

Should be noted though that I live in an area with zero crime so it would never happen. I might be singing a different tune if I lived in a sketchy area.

It seems that every show of 48 Hrs. or Dateline starts off with someone saying, "nothing ever happens in this place/town/street." Guns aren't for everyone though, and some people aren't comfortable having them around.

Take it for what it is worth (I'm not the biggest Glock fan myself)

Glock uses the marketing term “Safe Action” to describe its firing-pin system, but the truth is that Glocks are accident-prone. They contributed to more than 120 accidental discharges in the Washington Metropolitan Police Department from 1988 to 1998. Anecdotes of increased accidental shootings have followed the pistol for more than 30 years wherever it has been adopted by police officers and citizens alike.

if it hasn't been suggested yet, you need to hook up with people and actually go to a range and start handling weapons and practicing. you need to have other people around you to show you and correct you.

it's like a 15 year old asking what's the best car to drive when they have not even learned how to drive. it's natural for them to ask, but the driver ED car won't be the one they drive everyday, and the guns you learn how to operate and follow protocol might not be the one you carry or use for home defense.

good luck, be safe

If you can get a concealed carry permit that's Great .. otherwise the gun MUST be in a Lock Box at home and in your Car ( Trunk ) and..... wait for it

UNLOADED

Not sure if different States have different Laws ... guess they do... but I believe this is the case in the U.S overall

What good is an unloaded gun in a safe going to do if you ever needed it ?

I've never owned a gun above a .22 pellet gun, I've only shot a handgun in one session with a friend out in the desert, back around 1989.

I don't even lock my doors when I'm gone for the day, maybe I'm too lax on security, but I feel very safe
