Game of the Night – Celtics at Kings – 10:30 PM EST

Boston looks to extend its season-high winning streak to eight games as the Celtics embark on a four-game road swing. The Celtics (33-18 SU, 26-23-2 ATS) begin their trip in Sacramento, as six of the seven victories during this hot streak came at TD Garden.

Brad Stevens’ club finished off a sweep of the Los Angeles squads, capped off by Sunday’s 107-102 triumph over the Clippers. However, old friend Paul Pierce knocked down a late three-pointer to give L.A. the cover as 5 ½-point underdogs, as Boston is 0-4 ATS the last four games.

Sacramento (20-32 SU, 25-25-2 ATS) erased a 27-point deficit to tie Chicago on Monday night, but the Kings ultimately fell to the Bulls, 112-107 to suffer their 15th loss at Golden 1 Center. The Kings couldn’t capitalize off Saturday’s upset of Golden State as Dave Joerger’s team has dropped nine of their last 11 home contests, including a 2-4 ATS mark in its last six opportunities as a home underdog. To make matters worse, star center DeMarcus Cousins will be out after getting slapped with a one-game suspension following his 16th technical foul of the season.

The Celtics held off the Kings in their first matchup back in early December, 97-92 at TD Garden. Sacramento managed a cover as six-point underdogs in spite of shooting 37% from the floor, while Celtics’ star Isaiah Thomas was limited 6-of-21 shooting, but scored 20 points. Boston has lost its last four of its last five visits to Sacramento, but owns a solid 11-2 SU and 10-3 ATS mark in the role of a road favorite.

Bounce-Back Mode

Golden State returns to the court for the first time since getting tripped up at Sacramento on Saturday in overtime as 14 ½-point favorites. The Warriors own a perfect 7-0 record this season off a loss, but have covered only three times in this situation as the defending Western Conference champions host the Bulls. Golden State has won 15 of its past 16 contests at Oracle Arena, while averaging 123.3 points per game during this home stretch.

Chicago staved off Sacramento on Monday, 112-107 to pick up the second victory on its six-game road swing, as the Bulls have three contests remaining before heading home. Fred Hoiberg’s squad has covered in all three games in the role of an underdog, while cashing the OVER in all three contests. Jimmy Butler hopes to return to the lineup for Chicago after missing the last two games with a heel contusion, as the Bulls try to avenge a pair of losses to the Warriors from last season.

Central Clash

The top two teams in the Central division meet up in Indianapolis as the Pacers look to beat the Cavaliers for the second time this season. Indiana extended its winning streak to seven by edging Oklahoma City on Monday, 93-90, while limiting his fourth straight opponent to below 97 points. Dating back to December 30, the Pacers have won 14 of their past 18 games, including nine of the last 10 contests at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

The Cavaliers outlasted the Wizards on Monday in overtime, 140-135 in probably the top game of the regular season so far. Cleveland snapped Washington’s 17-game home winning streak behind Kevin Love’s 39 points and LeBron James’ game-tying three-pointer late in regulation. Tyronn Lue’s squad is rolling of late following a three-game skid in late January by winning five of the past six contests, but own a 3-7 ATS mark in the previous 10 games away from Quicken Loans Arena. The Cavaliers have struggled in Indianapolis recently by dropping four of the past five road meetings, including a 10-point defeat (without James) in mid-November.

Do It Again?

The Heat keep finding ways to win as Miami’s winning streak moved to 11 games after edging Minnesota on Monday by two points. Miami was sitting in the basement of the Southeast division at 11-30 last month before putting together 11 consecutive victories to have an outside shot at the playoffs. The Heat faces Milwaukee for the final time in the regular season after the home team captured the first three meetings.

The Bucks return home following a 137-112 blowout of the Suns on Saturday to close out a three-game road trip as Milwaukee posted a 45-point first quarter. Last season’s leading scorer Khris Middleton will make his season debut tonight after missing the 50 games following hamstring surgery. The Bucks have slumped to a 2-5 record the past seven contests at BMO Harris Bradley Center, including a 1-5 ATS mark in the last six in the role of a home favorite.

Big-Time Backwards

New York and Los Angeles basketball is trending in the wrong direction of late as the Knicks and Clippers meet at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks are a complete mess on the court by going 6-18 since Christmas and off the court with all the Carmelo Anthony trade rumors.

The Clippers haven’t been much better since Chris Paul injured his thumb by compiling a 2-6 SU and 3-5 ATS mark in the last eight games. Los Angeles has allowed over 100 points in all eight of these contests, but the Clippers have beaten the Knicks eight straight times.

Perfect Philadelphia

Since the calendar turned to 2017, the 76ers have put together an 8-0 ATS mark at home, while winning seven times at Wells Fargo Center. The Sixers will be tested tonight when the Spurs invade the City of Brotherly Love as San Antonio is coming off only its sixth road loss of the season on Monday in Memphis. In spite of Philadelphia’s recent home prowess, the 76ers have dropped six of their past seven games overall, including a 102-86 setback at San Antonio as 17-point underdogs last Thursday.

Taking It Easy

The first team of New Orleans meets the current Big Easy squad tonight as the Jazz visit the Pelicans. Utah continues a three-game road trip following an impressive 120-95 blowout of Atlanta on Monday to extend its winning streak to three. The Jazz snapped an 0-7 ATS run on the road, while improving to 9-4 ATS in the role of an away favorite.

Utah faces New Orleans for the first time this season after splitting four matchups last season, as the Pelicans look to build a winning streak following Monday’s victory over the Suns. New Orleans has held its own as a home underdog of three points or more this season by posting a perfect 5-0 ATS mark, including outright wins over San Antonio, Cleveland, and Boston.

Head-to-Head Trends

-- The Wizards have captured five straight matchups with the Nets, including two victories this season. Washington heads to Brooklyn seeking its sixth consecutive road cover, while the Nets have dropped 10 straight games.

-- The Hawks edged the Nuggets by one point in Denver back in December as the teams meet in Atlanta tonight. The Nuggets have fallen in seven of their past eight trips to Philips Arena with their last victory in Atlanta coming in March 2011.

-- The Lakers snapped a 12-game road skid in Monday’s blowout of the Knicks as Los Angeles ventures to Detroit. The Pistons rallied past the Lakers at Staples Center last month, but Detroit has lost three of the past four home meetings with Los Angeles.

-- Memphis routed Phoenix on the road last month as the Suns travel to FedEx Forum. The Suns cashed in both visits to Memphis last season as an underdog, while posting a 6-3 ATS mark in its past nine as a road underdog.

-- Toronto has owned Minnesota through the years by winning 18 of the last 20 matchups since 2006. The Raptors outlasted the Wolves in December, 124-110, but Minnesota tripped up Toronto at Target Center last season, 117-112.

Thursday’s six-pack

— Golden State is raising ticket prices up to 25% next year, because they can; they have a waiting list of 32,000 people waiting for season tickets.

— Major league baseballs are made in Costa Rica; minor league baseballs are made in China.

— Akron Rubber Ducks of the Eastern League have 22 Fireworks Nights this year; thats almost one-third of all their home games. Fireworks are popular.

— 742 pitchers were used in the major leagues last year, 24.7 per team.

— Jabari Parker hurt his knee last night, looked like a serious injury. We hope it isn’t.

*************************

Thursday’s List of 13: Wrapping up an evening of basketball

13) VCU 54, George Washington 53— VCU pulled a successful scam; down a point with 0:00.4 left, the inbounder runs the baseline, the GW guy ran with him on the baseline and a VCU guy comes up and sets a screen, gets run over by the GW guy and the ref calls a foul!!!!

VCU hits the foul shots and wins by a point, second time in five days they won a road game they were trailing with less than a second to play. That doesn’t happen a lot.

12) Minnesota 101, Iowa 89 2OT— Gophers led this game 40-29 at the half; they really needed this win, just their second in their last seven games. Mason had 25 points with only one turnover for Minnesota in a hectic game.

If you laid seven points with the Gophers, someone was smiling down on you.

12a) Wyoming 102, Fresno State 100, 4OT— Not sure why Wyoming brings two of its better players off the bench, but they do. Cowboys’ McManamen hit his first seven 3’s in this game, then missed his last six. Dalton had 21 points, 20 boards off the bench for Wyoming.

They had 11,841 fans at the UNLV-Nevada game, biggest crowd in Reno history.

11) Wizards 114, Nets 110 OT— Brooklyn has lost 11 in a row overall, 13 in a row at home, and they want to kick the Islanders out of the Barclays Center? Oy.

10) Seton Hall 72, Providence 70 OT— Game was 41-36 at the half; for people who played the over (135.5), second half of this game was nauseating. The overtime was more uplifting.

Both of these teams are on NCAA bubble or just off it; this really did have feel of a tournament game, albeit a bad tournament game. Providence led by 15 in the first half.

9) Tennessee 75, Ole Miss 66— Vols ended game on a 17-2 run; Rebels didn’t score a basket for last 3:55 of game; they led 64-58 when they scored with 3:56 left to play.

8) Baylor 72, Oklahoma State 69— Bears led this game 70-57 with 4:14 left, then didn’t score for next four minutes. The Big X is a brutal league; there are no bad teams. None.

Baylor did a great job in last 0:10 when OSU had the ball down 3- they defended the arc really well. They didn’t so such a great job in the 4:00 before that, as far as scoring points.

7) This game was Tuesday, but it was an exceptional game……..
Alabama 90, South Carolina 86 4OT’s— Gamecocks were 3-30 in the first half. 3 for 30!!!! They were +10 in turnovers, made 35-50 on the foul line but still lost. Alabama is quietly 7-4 in SEC with four road wins.

6) Morehead State 101, Murray State 100 OT— Belmont’s two main challengers in OVC played an extra 5:00 here. Morehead led by 12 at half, has now won six of its last seven games. Murray was 13-23 on the arc, was +5 in turnovers but still lost.

5) Pittsburgh 83, Boston College 72— Panthers break their 8-game losing streak; five of those eight losses were by 8 or less points. Wonder if Kevin Stallings wishes he was back in the SEC?

4) Spurs 111, 76ers 103— Philly is 13-18 when Joel Embiid plays, 5-16 when he does not.

3) UConn 97, South Florida 51— USF needs a coach for next year; two years ago, they wanted to hire Manhattan’s Steve Masiello but didn’t because of concerns about his resume. Those concerns have been dealt with, but Manhattan hasn’t won much since then. Still think he would be a good fit for the Bulls.

2) Heat 106, Bucks 88— Miami was 11-30 at the halfway point of the season; since then, they are 12-0, and are only a couple games out of a playoff berth. Erik Spoelstra can really coach.

1— Clippers 119, Knicks 115— Former NBA star Charles Oakley had an incident at this game and was escorted out by the police; hope it is nothing serious. About ten years ago, I was in Orlando watching AAU games in the summer, and Oakley was there with Michael Jordan watching Jordan’s sons play.

Charles Oakley is a HUGE man; he would be very high on the list of people I wouldn’t want to be mad at me. Ever.

According to the NYPD, Oakley was charged with three misdemeanor counts of assault for hitting security guards and criminal trespassing.

Inside the Paint - Thursday
February 9, 2017

Favorites produced a 9-3 straight up record on Wednesday and the ‘chalk’ managed to go 7-5 against the spread as well. Two of the three underdogs that won outright were at home as Minnesota and Sacramento knocked off a pair of Eastern Conference contenders in Toronto and Boston respectively.

The other ‘dog to cash was Miami, who dropped the Bucks 106-88 in wire-to-wire fashion while catching four points. The Heat have now won a season-high 12 straight (11-0-1 ATS) and the club has been listed as ‘dogs in seven of those games. The run has a great possibility of reaching 15 with the Nets, 76ers and Magic on tap.

The ‘over’ went 7-5 on Wednesday and is now 9-6 (60%) the last two nights in the NBA.

Game of the Night - Cleveland at Oklahoma City (TNT, 8:05 p.m. ET)

This was expected to be the top matchup to watch on Thursday but the latest reports have the trio of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love resting for Cleveland (36-15 SU, 23-26-2 ATS) on Thursday.

The Cavaliers won and covered their fourth straight game last night by running past Indiana 132-117 as 3 ½-point road favorites. Along with playing the back-to-back spot, tonight’s matchup is the third game in four nights for Cleveland and bettors should be aware that it has been a great team to fade on zero days rest this season. The club has gone 3-6 SU and 2-7 ATS when facing back-to-back spots and that includes a winless mark (0-6 SU, 0-6 ATS) on the road.

Oklahoma City (30-23 SU, 29-23-1 ATS) is now listed as high as a nine-point favorite over the Cavs and it’s been a solid investment (18-7 SU, 16-8 ATS) at home this season. However, the Thunder are just 5-5 SU and 4-6 ATS versus the Eastern Conference in OKC and its 2-6 overall versus the Central Division.

These teams recently met on Jan. 29 and Cleveland coasted to a 107-91 victory over Oklahoma City as a 7 ½-point home favorite. Including this win, the Cavaliers have won four and covered straight versus the Thunder and they’re 7-3 SU and 8-2 ATS in the last 10 encounters.

The ‘under’ is on 5-1 run between the pair in this series but Cleveland enters this game on an 8-2 ‘over’ streak yet those numbers should obviously ignored with the Cavaliers sitting their top three players.

Along with this matchup, we have four other betting opportunities in the NBA on Thursday and below is my quick handicap.

Philadelphia (18-34 SU, 30-22 ATS) at Orlando (20-34 SU, 22-30-2 ATS)

I thought this line would open a little higher (Magic -4 ½) but it’s a tough handicap since neither team is in great form. Philadelphia was on fire in January but has come back to life this month with a 0-5 record (2-3 ATS). Meanwhile, Orlando is 3-7 in its last 10 games and surprisingly, the team has played better on the road (11-18) than at home (9-16) this season. The Magic are 5-4 as a home favorite but only 2-5-2 ATS in that role.

The Magic have won the first two meetings (1-1 ATS) against the 76ers this season, both victories coming on the road. Despite owning losing records the last few seasons, Philadelphia has managed to go 2-2 SU and 3-1 ATS in its last four trips to Orlando.

Philadelphia dropped a 111-103 decision last night to San Antonio as a 12-point home underdog and will be facing a back-to-back situation tonight. The 76ers have gone 3-9 on zero days rest this season but they’ve managed to go 6-6 versus the number in these situations. The ‘over’ has gone 8-4 in these games.

76ers center Joel Emiid (knee) has missed 10 of the last 11 games for the team and is expected to sit this game out as well.

Houston (38-17 SU, 31-24 ATS) at Charlotte (24-28 SU, 22-28-2 ATS)

If you handicap this game based on past history, you’re leaning to Houston to win the game outright. The Rockets have gone 17-3 in their last 20 meetings in this series, which includes a 121-114 victory on Jan. 10 as 8 ½-point home favorites. Charlotte covered the number in that loss and 3-1 ATS in the last four matchups versus the Rockets. The ‘over’ cashed in the last two games between the pair but that was preceded by a 7-0 ‘under’ streak in this series.

The Rockets opened as four-point road favorites and they enter this game off back-to-back wins. Houston hasn’t won three straight since early January and its recent form as a road favorite (2-4 SU, 0-6 ATS) doesn’t provide bettors much confidence.

Making a case for Charlotte isn’t easy either, knowing the club just snapped a seven-game losing streak on Tuesday in a 111-107 win over the lowly Nets. The Hornets are 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 and are still winless (0-4 SU, 1-3 ATS) when listed as home underdogs.

Utah (34-19 SU, 23-29-1 ATS) at Dallas (20-32 SU, 28-24 ATS)

The Jazz will be looking to complete a four-game season sweep of the Mavericks when the pair square off on Thursday. Utah ripped Dallas 97-81 in the first encounter back in November but its last two wins only came by three and five points, both resulting in ATS wins for the Mavericks.

Utah is in solid form, winners in four straight (3-1 ATS) and that includes a 127-94 blowout victory at New Orleans last night. The Jazz have been respectable when playing on no rest this season, going 7-5 SU and 6-6 ATS. Delving into those B2B records further, the club started 2-0 on the road but has dropped four straight as a visitor with no rest and all of the losses came by nine-plus points.

The Jazz are listed as a four-point road favorite and what's really impressive is that haven't lost in that role this season, going 13-0 SU and 9-4 ATS.

Dallas enters this game off back-to-back losses but those setbacks came after the club had won and covered six of their last seven games. Since dealing with injuries in November, Dallas has turned it around and has only dropped three consecutive games once in the last two months.

Despite having some low totals posted in their matchups, these teams have seen the ‘over’ go 4-1 in their last five meetings. Thursday’s number is hovering between 192 and 193 points.

Boston (33-19 SU, 26-24-2 ATS) at Portland (23-30 SU, 22-31 ATS)

These teams met a couple weeks ago in Boston and the Trail Blazers captured a 127-123 overtime victory as 7 ½-point road underdogs. Portland has won three of the four previous meetings in this series at the Moda Center, which includes a 116-109 last season.

Boston had its seven-game winning streak snapped last night as it was thumped 108-92 by Sacramento as an 8 ½-point road favorite. Despite racking up wins, the Celtics are just 3-5 ATS in their last eight games.

Fatigue hasn’t been a factor this season for Boston, who has won eight of its last nine games when playing on no rest. Overall, the Celtics are 8-3 SU 7-4 ATS in back-to-back-spots and that includes a 4-2 road mark.

Portland enters this game with a little pep in its step after it edged Dallas 114-113 on Tuesday. The Trail Blazers are 5-3 in their last eight games and have been installed as short favorites (-1 ½) in this matchup.

Terry Stotts and company had a lot of past success at home but that hasn’t been the case this season (14-11 SU, 12-13 ATS), especially against teams from the East. The Blazers are just 4-5 at home in non-conference matchups and Boston enters this game as one of 10 teams in the league that owns a winning mark (14-11 SU, 15-8-2 ATS) on the road.

TNT will provide coverage of this game at 10:30 p.m. ET.

Armadillo: Friday's List of 13: Wrapping up a Thursday night of hoops

13) Before I start in on Thursday’s college games, there was a high school game this week in California that ended 146-123. A 32:00 high school game ended 146-123. No bueno.

Lonzo Ball’s (PG at UCLA) brother is in 10th grade; he scored 92 points in this game for the winning team, 41 in the 4th quarter, but he rarely crossed half court to defend in the second half. All of this raises numerous questions.

— What coach allows their players not to play defense, just so he can show off?
— What parent is OK with their son and his team embarrassing an opponent? The winning team was fouling on purpose, just to get the ball back— this is OK?
— Who coaches the other team? You have to double or triple-team the kid, just so he can’t make fools out of your players. Thats the least you need to do.
— Refs are probably relieved that no one on the losing team tried to put the kid into a wall for being a self-absorbed human being.
— The kid is an outstanding player, already committed to UCLA, and he is only in 10th grade, so this is likely to be repeated at times over the next two years.

12) Duke 86, North Carolina 78— Sorry to disagree with Duke alum Jay Bilas, but Auburn-Alabama football is a much bigger rivalry than this game; I mean, someone poisoned a tree over the Iron Bowl. I didn’t even know it was possible to poison a tree. Duke was 13-27 on the arc.

Weird fact; these teams have met only once in last 12 ACC tournaments. Surprising.

If I’m running ESPN, I bring in UNC alum Brad Daugherty for a 3-man booth for these rivalry games, with Dan Shulman and Bilas. Too may Dukies on network TV.

11) Wofford 131, Samford 127, 4OT— This is the third night in a row a game went four OT’s. Samford led by 6 at the half, made 14-27 on the arc but lost.

10) Purdue 69, Indiana 64— Swanigan had 16 points, 14 boards and I thought he got by far the worst of the officiating- couple fouls against him were total home court calls. . Swanigan has improved his draft stock by staying in college this year. Indiana is 15-10, 5-7 in the Big 14; they need to start winning some games, so Selection Sunday isn’t a very long day.

9) Northeastern 73, Charleston 72— Kid on Northeastern grabbed an airball, tossed up an underhanded flip at the buzzer and it went in, giving Huskies an unlikely win in a game they trailed by 16 at the half. Cougars fall out of a tie for first place in the CAA.

8) Furman 60, Chattanooga 56— Paladins are in first place in an improved Southern Conference; well-balanced Paladins start three juniors and a senior- no one on Furman scored more than 13 points in this game. Chattanooga is 2-3 in its last five games.

7) Rice 89, FIU 78— 16-8 Owls are headed for only their second winning season since 2005; they’re 7-5 in Conference USA.

6) Colorado 81, Washington 66— Huskies’ star freshman Markelle Futlz didn’t play because of a sore knee, which should raise red flags in front offices all over the bottom half of the NBA. Buffs are now 4-8 in Pac-12, after starting out 0-7 in conference games.

5) Wisconsin 70, Nebraska 69 OT— Nigel Hayes tore the Cornhuskers’ hearts out with a 3-pointer with 0:18.4 left in OT, after Nebraska had tied the game with a 3-ball at buzzer of regulation. Nebraska has now lost eight of its last nine games.

4) Cal State-Bakersfield 72, New Mexico State 53— Roadrunners hand NM State their first loss in WAC, are now tied with Aggies in loss column for first place.

3) Liberty 92, Gardner-Webb 87, 2OT
NC-Asheville 104, Winthrop 101, 2OT— Both winners are 11-2 and tied for first place in the Big South, but they both were fully extended here.

2) UCLA 82, Oregon 79— Highly entertaining two hours; Ducks controlled the game early, led by 9 at the half, by 13 with 12:00 left, but then UCLA got momentum in the second half and surged to a win that avenged their 89-87 loss in Eugene back in December.

1— St Mary’s and Gonzaga both won their games vs inferior opponents last night, setting up Saturday’s showdown in Moraga. Gonzaga won first meeting with St Mary’s 79-56 at home Jan 14.

Friday’s NBA Game of the Day: Pacers at Wizards
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Wizards 17 game home winning streak came to an end earlier this week. Can they start another streak when they host the Pacers Friday night?

Indiana Pacers at Washington Wizards (-5, 214.5)

Two teams surging up the standings in the Eastern Conference square off when the Indiana Pacers visit the Washington Wizards on Friday. The Wizards had a 17-game home winning streak come to an end on Monday but bounced back with an overtime win at Brooklyn on Wednesday while the Pacers' seven-game winning streak was coming to an end in a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Washington battled into overtime in one of the best games of the NBA season but was denied an 18th consecutive home win in Monday's 140-135 loss to the Cavaliers and had to fight off a bit of a hangover from that outing before putting away the Nets 114-110. "We were trying to find a rhythm," Wizards coach Scott Brooks told reporters after Wednesday's triumph. "Some parts of the game looked good and some parts of the game we’re going to push fast forward on our film tonight and try to keep finding the good things we can do." The Pacers led Cleveland at halftime on Wednesday but completely fell off the pace after the break and ended up falling 132-117. "It's one game," star forward Paul George told reporters. "We look past this. We played a really good team tonight. We know what beat us and we know the reason why we lost tonight. ... If we're serious about where we want to get to, then we'll respond Friday."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, ESPN, FSN Indiana, CSN Mid-Atlantic (Washington)

LINE HISTORY: The Wizards opened as 5-point home favorites and the total hit the board at 214.5. As of Friday morning there had been no movement to either number.

INJURY REPORT:

Pacers - PF Thaddeus Young (Out, wrist)

Wizards - PF Markieff Morris (Questionable, calf), PF Daniel House (Mid-February, wrist)

POWER RANKINGS: Indiana (-3.2) - Washington (-5.5) + home court (-3) = Washington -5.3

ABOUT THE PACERS (29-23 SU, 23-28-1 ATS, 27-25 O/U): Indiana allowed an average of 96.3 points during its seven-game winning streak and held four straight opponents under 100 points before letting up on that end Wednesday. The Pacers were outscored 40-18 in the decisive third quarter and allowed Cavaliers sharpshooter Kyle Korver to go 8-of-9 from 3-point range in the loss. "At the start of the third quarter, you can't come out not focused and ready to go as we did," Indiana coach Nate McMillan told reporters. "You've got to be calm in games like this. We got rattled. ... It was a good lesson for us. We should learn from this."

ABOUT THE WIZARDS (31-21 SU, 30-22 ATS, 32-20 O/U): One of Washington's 17 straight home wins came over Indiana, a 111-105 on Dec. 28 that pulled the team within a game of .500 at 15-16. The Wizards are now third in the Eastern Conference behind Cleveland and Boston and are getting star-level performances from shooting guard Bradley Beal, who followed up a 41-point effort on Monday with 31 points in 41 minutes at Brooklyn. The 23-year-old did not play more than 73 games in any of his first four seasons and was limited to 55 last season but only missed four games so far this season and is logging heavy minutes (39.3 in the first four games this month) along with backcourt mate John Wall (42.3 minutes in February).

TRENDS:

* Pacers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
* Wizards are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games following a straight up win.
* Over is 9-2 in Pacers last 11 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
* Over is 4-1 in Wizards last 5 home games.
* Over is 8-1 in the last 9 meetings.
* Pacers are 7-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings in Washington.

CONSENSUS: 65 percent of users are siding with the home favorite Washington Wizards and Over is picking up 78 percent of the totals wagers.

Armadillo: Saturday's six-pack

— Random fact: 5,411 people renounced their American citizenship last year. Not sure why people do this, but they did.

— Packers’ QB Aaron Rodgers is also a 7-handicap golfer.

— Wisconsin Badgers won their last seven overtime games.

— Duke hasn’t won the ACC regular season title since 2010.

— Oregon’s hoop team has only one kid from Oregon on its roster.

— North Carolina announced that football DC Gene Chizik quit Thursday, just before the hoop game with Duke, interesting time for a news dump.

**********

Armadillo:Saturday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but……

13) Baseball is going to experiment with a rule in the low minor leagues where teams start extra innings with a runner on second base; this is when you know idiots are taking over at the top of the sport.

If you really need to shorten/quicken baseball games, here are some ideas that would work, without making the major leagues look like girls’ softball:

— Make a pitcher have to face at least two batters in every appearance; would result in way fewer pitching changes, each of which is 5-6 minutes in length.
— Pitching changes are subbed in, just like basketball. You call time, the guy jogs in from the bullpen and the game resumes. No conferences on the mound, which leads us to……
— No visits to the mound by any coach/manager. Ever. If a coach comes to the mound because of an injury to the pitcher, the pitcher has to leave the game.
— Get rid of the DH; then, more pitching changes would happen via pinch-hitting and you’d have less pitching changes within the half-inning.
— If you hate extra inning games so much (I love them myself), then instead of cheapening the game by having runners start the inning on base, just have tie games, like they do in Japan. If the game is tied after 10 or 11 innings, it ends.

I’m not in favor of this; extra inning games create some unique happenings that make the game great fun but better tie games than starting an inning with men on base.

— Eliminating replay reviews would be useless, because managers’ arguments with umpires took up just as much time as replay reviews and with far fewer benefits.

The thing is, MLB is harping on this issue because games are 8-10 minutes longer than they used to be; 8-10 minutes!!!! Who cares? The game is fine the way it is; people who don’t like baseball have way too much influence over the game’s decision makers.

12) Jeffrey Loria supposedly has reached an agreement to sell the Miami Marlins for $1.6B to a guy in NYC, but the guy (a real estate magnate) doesn’t have enough cash on hand- his wealth is tied up in real estate, so it is unclear if MLB would approve the sale. Baseball would be better off to get rid of Loria, though.

Kicker is, the real estate guy who wants to buy the Marlins is Ivanka Trump’s brother-in-law; how much money do these people have?

11) Tough break for the Milwaukee Bucks; Jabari Parker tore an ACL, is done for the season. Portland loses Evan Turner for 5-6 weeks with a broken hand.

10) Jordan Spieth got into a verbal spat with professional autograph collectors/sellers this week, saying that “….they should get a job” instead of selling his signature on the Interweb. Actually, selling autographs, memorabilia is a job.

I’ve seen NFL players bark at collectors too; Torry Holt for one, at the Football Hall of Fame in 2001 when I was watching the Rams practice before the Hall of Fame Game. Guys with thick binders filled with pictures are guys who collect signed stuff and sell them. Players are very cool with kids; they sign a lot and willingly. With collectors, they have way less patience.

It is the American way, I guess; make money any legal way you can.

9) Houston Astros players lost only 413 days to the disabled list last year, least in the major leagues; Oakland A’s lost the most, with 1,966 player days on the DL.

8) Just when Northwestern looked headed to their first NCAA tourney, their best player gets mono and the Wildcats lose their next two games. Their non-conference schedule was so weak, their margin for error is less than most teams.

7) Central Michigan beat Ohio U 97-87 Tuesday night; the two teams combined to take 72 3’s, 60 2-point shots and only 43 foul shots. Basketball is trending that way, for better or worse.

6) Apparently, Michael Buffer got paid $10,000 to do his shtick introducing the starting lineups at the UNLV-Nevada game in Reno Wednesday night. He did the same thing at a Kentucky game couple of weeks ago. Now thats a good gig.

5) Saint Louis Billikens lost at St Bonaventure Wednesday night; afterwards, they couldn’t find the team bus. Turns out the bus driver was drunk and she took off without any passengers- she and the bus were found 40 miles away, because coach Travis Ford’s I-Pad was on the bus and he could locate it with his IPhone. Oy.

its been a bad season for the Billikens but at least that provided some comic relief, once they got on the chartered plane back home.

4) RIP Mr Mike Ilitch, 87, who owned the Little Ceasar’s pizza chain, as well as the Red Wings and the Tigers. He won four Stanley Cups as owner of the Red Wings, who had a farm club in Glens Falls for many years

3) Louisville will be back at full strength for Saturday’s game with Miami; PG Snider is healthy again and the two late-night partiers are back in good graces after being suspended for the game at Virginia, after they missed curfews (supposedly by four hours).

2) Atlanta Falcons had a great season, right? Well, they fired their defensive coordinator and their defensive line coach, so they’ll have two new coordinators next season. Unusual to fire assistant coaches after you came so close to winning a championship.

1— It hadn’t dawned on me until I just heard it on TV: the 49ers will have their 4th different head coach in four years next season, and that doesn’t include interim coaches. That would indicate the problem may be the owner, since he is the only decision maker who has been there the whole time.
