Indiana (15-3 Big 10) closed out the regular season conference championship with five consecutive victories, capped off by an 80-62 blowout of Maryland in the finale. The Hoosiers won six of nine games away from Bloomington in Big 10 play, including an 80-67 rout of Michigan as two-point road underdogs on February 2. Indiana has won three of its past four Big 10 tournament openers since 2012, including a pair of covers as double-digit favorites in 2012 and 2013. Michigan (11-8 Big 10) held off Northwestern in overtime on Thursday, 72-70 to pick up just its second win in the last six games (both against the Wildcats). The Wolverines compiled a 1-4 ATS record as an underdog in conference play, while covering just once in seven tries as a ‘dog this season.

Illinois (7-13 Big 10) won just five games in conference play, but found a way to grab a pair of victories over Minnesota and Iowa to advance to the Big 10 quarterfinals. The Fighting Illini stunned the Hawkeyes as 10 ½-point underdogs in a wire-to-wire 68-66 triumph on Thursday to extend their season. Illinois covered as a ‘dog for just the fifth time in 13 tries against conference opponents, but improved to 6-3 ATS in the last nine games overall. The Fighting Illini upset Purdue as nine-point home underdogs back in January, 84-70, as Illinois won just three home games against conference foes. Purdue (12-6 Big 10) was one of four teams that finished with 12 conference victories in the Big 10, while picking up key home wins down the stretch over Maryland and Wisconsin. Since 2011, the Boilermakers own a 2-5 record in the last seven Big 10 tournament contests.

No. 2 Michigan State vs. No. 7 Ohio State (Big Ten, 6:30 p.m. ET)

For the second time in less than a week, Ohio State and Michigan State hook up. Last Saturday, the Spartans (13-5 Big 10) stayed red-hot by beating the Buckeyes, 91-76 to win for the 10th time in the last 11 games. Michigan State is on a remarkable 11-0 ATS run, while laying at least seven points in each of the past six contests. The Spartans captured both regular season matchups with the Buckeyes, winning in Columbus, 81-62 as seven-point favorites on February 23. Ohio State (11-8 Big 10) rallied past Penn State on Wednesday, 79-75 to keep their NCAA tournament hopes alive, but the Buckeyes failed to cover to drop to 4-6 ATS in the last 10 games overall. Since winning the Big 10 tournament in 2013, OSU owns a 1-5 ATS record in the past six conference tournament contests.

No. 1 North Carolina vs. No. 4 Notre Dame (ESPN, 7:00 p.m. ET)

It’s a rematch of last season’s ACC championship when Notre Dame outlasted North Carolina, 90-82 as 3 ½-point underdogs to claim the Fighting Irish’s first conference title since leaving the Big East in 2013. Notre Dame (12-7 ACC) looks to keep up its momentum from Thursday’s dramatic overtime triumph over Duke, 84-79 as the Irish erased a 16-point second half deficit. The Irish knocked off the Tar Heels in South Bend, 80-76 as 2 ½-point home ‘dogs in early February. North Carolina (15-4 ACC) cruised past Pittsburgh, 88-71 to easily cash as 7 ½-point chalk, while covering as a favorite for the fourth time in the last five opportunities. Following an 11-3 run to the ‘under,’ the Tar Heels eclipsed the ‘over’ of 150 ½ in Thursday’s victory over Pitt.

No. 1 Texas A&M vs. No. 8 Florida (SEC, 1:00 p.m. ET)

The top-seed in the SEC tournament takes the court on Friday as Texas A&M (13-5 SEC) is coming off its first regular season conference championship since joining the league. The Aggies began conference play with a sterling 8-1 record, but dropped four straight games to begin February. A&M finished strong with six consecutive victories, including home triumphs over Kentucky and Vanderbilt. The Aggies knocked off Florida in its lone meeting this season, 71-68, but failed to cash as six-point home favorites in January. The Gators advanced after defeating Arkansas, 68-61 on Wednesday to pick up their second straight win following a four-game skid. For the eighth straight season, Florida won its opening game in the SEC tournament, while Texas A&M owns a 1-3 record in the conference tourney since moving over from the Big 12 in 2012.

No. 4 LSU vs. No. 12 Tennessee (SEC, 3:30 p.m. ET)

Tennessee (8-12 SEC) has come out of nowhere to play in the SEC quarterfinals after beating Auburn and Vanderbilt. One night after a 97-59 rout of Auburn, the Volunteers upset their cross-state rival by knocking off the Commodores, 67-65 to cash outright as 12-point underdogs. Tennessee is seeking its first three-game winning streak since late November, as the Vols didn’t even win back-to-back games in conference play prior to victories the last two days. LSU (11-7 SEC) is sitting on the NCAA tournament bubble after several questionable losses in non-conference play. The Tigers dropped four of six games down the stretch with the only wins coming at home against Florida and Missouri. LSU covered in just five of its final 17 games, which includes an 81-65 loss at Tennessee as three-point favorites on February 20.

No. 2 Kentucky vs. No. 10 Alabama (SEC, 7:00 p.m. ET)

Kentucky (13-5 SEC) came within two victories of finishing off an undefeated season in 2015, but the Wildcats fell short in the Final Four to Wisconsin. In spite of losing many key pieces, the Wildcats captured the second seed in the SEC tournament, while losing out on the top position thanks to losing the head-to-head tiebreaker with Texas A&M. UK won seven of its final nine games following back-to-back losses at Kansas and Tennessee, while posting a perfect 17-0 record at Rupp Arena. One of those home victories came against Alabama on February 23, as the Wildcats dominated the Crimson Tide, 78-53 to grab the season sweep. Alabama (9-10) took care of Ole Miss on Thursday, 81-73 to avenge an earlier loss in Oxford back in January. The Tide is sitting on the bubble but helped its cause with Thursday’s victory, while covering for the first time in six games. Alabama has profited in the role of an underdog since losing at home to Kentucky in January by posting an 8-3 ATS mark the last 11 when getting points.

Friday's Betting Notebook
March 11, 2016

-- Florida advanced to the SEC Tournament quarterfinals by beating Arkansas 68-61 as a three-point favorite in Wednesday’s game at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. The 129 combined points fell ‘under’ the 146-point total. Junior point guard Kasey Hill led UF with 18 points and five assists. Senior forward Dorian Finney-Smith produced 13 points, nine rebounds, two steals and three assists without committing a turnover. Kevaughn Allen had 11 points, five rebounds and three assists, while John Egbunu finished with eight points and nine rebounds despite playing with a torn ligament in his right thumb. The Gators will take on top-seeded Texas A&M today at 1:00 p.m. Eastern on the SEC Network. As of early this morning, most books had the Aggies favored by four points. When these schools met in College Station on Jan. 12, Texas A&M won a 61-58 decision but UF covered the number as a 6.5-point underdog. The Gators are 4-6 ATS with only one outright win in 10 games as underdogs this year. They have seen the ‘over’ go 4-1 in their last five games.

-- The SEC Tournament’s version of Cinderella arrived Thursday when 12th-seeded Tennessee upset Vanderbilt 67-65 as an 11.5-point underdog. Gamblers backing the Volunteers on the money line at the Westgate SuperBook brought home a +625 return. Vandy’s Wade Baldwin IV made a driving layup at the buzzer that was initially counted to tie the game and presumably forced overtime. However, the replay review clearly showed the ball was still in Baldwin’s left hand when the red lights came on. Using just seven players because of the absence of leading scorer Kevin Punter, UT had four players in double figures led by Detrick Mostella’s 18 points, six rebounds and three assists. Armani Moore added 14 points, five boards, three assists and a pair of blocked shots. Rick Barnes’s team will face fourth-seeded LSU at 3:30 p.m. Easter on the SEC Network. There was no line as of early this morning. Keith Hornsby is ‘out’ for the Tigers, who lost 81-65 at UT as 3.5-point road ‘chalk’ on Feb. 20.

-- Alabama earned the right to play Kentucky in tonight’s SEC Tourney quarterfinals with Thursday night’s 81-73 win over Ole Miss as a three-point underdog. The Crimson Tide improved to 13-7 against the spread with 10 outright victories in 20 games as an underdog on Avery Johnson’s watch. Retin Obasohan scored a team-best 17 points for the winners. Justin Coleman came off the bench to scored 15 points and dish out five assists, while Riley Norris finished with 16 points and 11 boards. Stefan Moody had a game-high 39 points and eight rebounds before fouling out for the Rebels, who have to hope for an NIT bid.

-- Kentucky’s massive crowd in Nash’Vegas will descend upon Bridgestone for the 7:00 p.m. Eastern tip on the SEC Network. This SEC Tourney is no different that every other through the decades. Translation: UK’s fans compose at least 60-70 percent of the crowd. The only exception to this was in the early-and-mid 1990s when Arkansas would bring nearly as many fans during Nolan Richardson’s glory years. UK demolished ‘Bama in a pair of regular-season meetings, cruising to a 77-61 win in Tuscaloosa and a 78-53 victory at Rupp Arena.

-- Georgia swept South Carolina in two regular-season games and will get a third shot at the Gamecocks tonight around 9:30 p.m. Eastern. The Bulldogs advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Mississippi State 79-69 as 2.5-point favorites. J.J. Frazier led the way with a game-high 28 points, as UGA improved to 18-12 and won its fourth consecutive game.

-- South Carolina star Michael Carrera is listed as ‘questionable’ vs. UGA due to a hip injury. Carrera, who averages 14.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, missed the Gamecocks’ regular-season finale. Nevertheless, Frank Martin’s team dealt out a pimpslap to Arkansas at Bud Walton Arena.

-- Notre Dame rallied from a 16-point second-half deficit to force overtime before capturing an 84-79 win over Duke as a two-point underdog Thursday at Verizon Center in Washington D.C. The Fighting Irish will face North Carolina on Friday in the first ACC Tournament semifinal. As of early this morning, most spots had the Tar Heels installed as 7.5-point favorites. UNC pulled away from Pitt early in the second half en route to an 88-71 triumph as an eight-point favorite. When Roy Williams’s team went to the Joyce Center in South Bend on Feb. 6, it lost an 80-76 decision to the Irish as a three-point road favorite.

-- Zach Auguste scored 19 points and pulled down 22 rebounds to pace Notre Dame yesterday against Duke. Mike Brey’s bunch improved to 21-10f and sent the Blue Devils packing from the ACC Tournament for a second straight season. The Irish has been an underdog seven times this year, compiling a 4-3 record both SU and ATS. Notre Dame and UNC will collide at 7:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

-- Virginia advanced to the ACC semifinals by disposing of Ga. Tech 72-52 as a 10-point ‘chalk.’ Malcolm Brogdon scored a game-high 26 by knocking down 10-of-15 from the field and 3-of-6 from downtown. Anthony Gill finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. Yellow Jackets’ star Marcus Georges-Hunt had only seven points on 1-of-8 shooting.

-- Miami will take on UVA in the second ACC semifinal at around 9:30 p.m. Eastern tonight on ESPN. The Hurricanes knocked off Va. Tech 88-82 but failed to take the money as nine-point favorites. Angel Rodriguez was the catalyst with 19 points, three steals and nine assists compared to merely two turnovers. Sheldon McClellan scored a game-high 21 points by making 8-of-12 shots, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range. There was no line yet for UVA-UM as of early this morning.

-- Baylor took it to Texas early and often in Thursday’s lid-lifter at the Big 12 Tournament. Scott Drew’s squad collected a 75-61 win as a 2.5-point ‘chalk’ behind 24 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and two steals from Taurean Prince. Rico Gathers contributed 13 points and nine rebounds. The Bears advance to meet Kansas in the semifinals at 7:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2. Most books had KU favored by 5.5 points early this morning.

-- Bill Self’s team thumped Kansas State 85-63 as a 12.5-point ‘chalk’ Thursday at Spring Center in Kansas City. Perry Ellis led the way with 21 points and six rebounds, while Fran Mason had 16 points and seven assists on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. KU won and covered in both regular-season meetings with Baylor, winning by six in Waco and by 28 in Lawrence. The Bears are 4-3 with three outright wins in seven games as underdogs.

-- The other Big 12 Tournament semifinal will pit West Virginia against Oklahoma. There was no line yet as of early this morning. The Mountaineers crushed TCU by an 86-66 count as 15.5-point favorites. Devin Williams was the catalyst against the Horned Frogs, scoring 18 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Jevon Carter finished with 15 points thanks to 3-of-5 shooting from behind the arc.

-- Lon Kruger’s team edged Iowa State 79-76 but failed to hook up its backers as a 4.5-point favorite. The 155 combined points slipped ‘under’ the 159-point total. Buddy Hield enjoyed a sensational performance, dropping 39 points on the Cyclones. The Big 12 Player of the Year made 14-of-21 shots and brought down nine boards. Hield’s heroic outshined another spectacular performance from Georges Niang, the senior forward who had 31 points, seven boards, five assists and two blocked shots before fouling out in his final Big 12 Tournament game. OU swept WVU in a pair of regular-season meetings, winning 70-68 at Norman but failing to cover as a six-point favorite. The Sooners thumped the Mountaineers 76-62 in Morgantown as four-point road underdogs.

-- The ‘under’ has cashed in nine consecutive games for the Sooners.

-- Villanova is a nine-point favorite vs. Providence in the Big East Tournament semifinals. These teams will square off at Madison Square Garden in New York City at 6:30 p.m. Eastern on Fox Sports 1. Jay Wright’s club captured an 81-67 win Thursday over Georgetown as an 11.5-point favorite. The 148 combined points elevated ‘over’ the 140-point total. Josh Hart led ‘Nova with 25 points.

-- Villanova leads the nation in free-throw shooting percentage (78.0%). The ‘over’ has hit in seven in a row for the Wildcats, who might be without starting center Daniel Ochefu, who was limited to 13 minutes against the Hoyas due to an ankle injury. Ochefu, who averages 10.0 points and 7.8 rebounds, is listed as ‘questionable.’

-- Providence spanked Butler 74-60 as a 3.5-point underdog in Thursday’s quarterfinals at MSG. Ben Bentil erupted for 38 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots against the Bulldogs, who had their three-game winning streak snapped. Butler had covered the spread in five in a row and eight of its last nine.

-- Xavier and Seton Hall will battle in the other Big East semifinal at around 9:00 p.m. Eastern on FS1. The Musketeers mashed Marquette 90-72 Thursday as 10-point ‘chalk.’ Chris Mack’s team saw the ‘over’ hit in its sixth straight game. Trevon Bluiett scored 24 points thanks to 5-of-8 shooting from 3-point range.

-- Seton Hall moved on by beating Creighton 81-73 as a one-point ‘chalk.’ Khadeen Carrington paced the Pirates with 27 points, three rebounds and three steals. Isaiah Whitehead finished with 24 points, 12 boards and six assists.

-- Colorado State broke open a tight game in the final two minutes to pull away from Boise State for an 88-81 win well past 1:00 a.m. on the East Coast this morning (or last night). The Rams won outright as seven-point underdogs, hooking up money-line supporters with a nice +280 return (paid $280 on $100 wagers). Larry Eustachy’s squad will face Fresno State in the late game at Friday’s Mountain West Tournament semifinals at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

-- Nevada edged New Mexico 64-62 to advance to the MWC semifinals. The Wolf Pack won outright as a four-point underdog and will now take on top-seeded San Diego State tonight at 9:00 p.m. Eastern on the CBS Sports Network.

-- Iowa has lost six of its last eight games after dropping a 68-66 decision to Illinois at Thursday’s Big Ten Tournament. Even worse, the Hawkeyes are 1-7 ATS in their last eight following the outright defeat as 10.5-point favorites. The Illini will meet Purdue at 2:30 p.m. Eastern today as an 11-point underdog.

-- There was another upset Thursday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, as Nebraska punted Wisconsin 70-58 as a six-point underdog. Shavon Shields paced the Cornhuskers with 20 points and nine rebounds. Nigel Hayes was an abysmal 2-of-15 from the field for the Badgers. Nebraska will face Maryland tonight at 9:00 p.m. Eastern on the Big Ten Network.

-- Another Big Ten quarterfinal to begin the evening session at 6:30 p.m. Eastern will pit Michigan State against Ohio State. These teams met this past Saturday at Breslin Center with the Spartans coasting to a 91-76 win as 14.5-point home favorites. Tom Izzo’s team has covered the number in 11 consecutive games, winning outright in 10 of those. The only defeat came by an 82-81 score at Purdue in overtime. The Spartans have also seen the ‘over’ hit in four straight and eight of their last nine.

-- The first Big Ten quarterfinal showdown will take place at noon Eastern on ESPN. Indiana was listed as a seven-point favorite vs. Michigan as of early this morning. The Wolverines advanced by surviving an overtime scare Thursday against Northwestern.

-- UCF fired head coach Donnie Jones on Thursday after six seasons at the school. Jones was a long-time assistant at UF under Billy Donovan.

-- Rutgers fired Eddie Jordan after three disastrous years. Now that the Scarlet Knights are in the Big Ten, this is one of the toughest jobs in all of college basketball. Look for Monmouth’s King Rice and Rhode Island’s Danny Hurley to emerge as leading candidates.

Armadillo: Friday's six-pack

Six of the top minor league prospects of the Philadelphia Phillies.....

1) JP Crawford, SS-- 21-year old figures to play in AAA this year.

2) Nick Williams, OF-- Acquired from Texas in Cole Hamels deal.

3) Nick Thompson, P-- Was 5-1, 1.80 in seven Eastern League starts.

4) Andrew Knapp, C-- Hit .360 in half a season in Eastern League

6) Cornelius Randolph, OF-- Won't be 19 years old until June.

19) Aaron Brown, OF-- Alum of Pepperdine, where a few years ago, the batboys were Pamela Anderson's sons.

**********

Armadillo: Friday's List of 13: Random stuff with weekend here........

13) What a day, always one of the best of the year. College basketball conference tournaments, just under 14 hours of them, from Brooklyn to Birmingham, Orlando to Las Vegas- there are three tournaments in Vegas, within three miles of each other. I'm tired and need some sleep, so on with today's list.........

12) Thirteen conference tournaments are over; Chattanooga is still the only #1-seed to win. It makes the NIT a strong tournament (I'm not sure how many people care about that) but it will also weaken the NCAA tournament field. Top seeds who lose in their conference tournament get an automatic invite from the NIT.

11) Western Kentucky 88, UAB 77-- Another #1 seed goes down

10) Coaching carousel started spinning faster; four coaches got the boot Thursday, as Rutgers, Central Florida, Tex-San Antonio and Saint Louis fired their coaches. It is looking like Rutgers will target Danny Hurley to replace Eddie Jordan at Rutgers.

9) Bill Murray was at Madison Square Garden last night, rooting on the Xavier Musketeers-- his son Luke is an assistant coach for Chris Mack's team.

8) Ivy League finally caved in, will have a four-team conference tournament starting next year, a Saturday/Sunday deal. Welcome to the 21st century.

7) Holy Cross was 0-9 in Patriot League road games; then conference tournament started and the Crusaders won four games, all on the road. Next stop for them will be Dayton for the play-in games next week.

6) Illinois 68, Iowa 66-- Hawkeyes are falling apart in March for second time in three years; they're officially a suspect for next week's NCAA tournament.

5) Notre Dame 84, Duke 79 OT-- Irish were down 16 in second half, rallied to beat a tired, thin Duke team that can't defend anymore. Notre Dame is 5-1 against Duke since the teams become conference rivals.

4) Providence 74, Butler 60-- Friars went 3-0 against Butler this season, surprising for teams with basically similar talent levels.

3) Tennessee 67, Vanderbilt 65-- Brutal loss for the Commodores, who are now probably on the outside looking in. You lose your first conference tournament game to a bad team playing without its leading scorer, there are no excuses.

2) Rumors have Colin Kaepernick getting traded to Denver for a 3rd-round draft pick. If the Broncos had to play a game today, their QB would be Trevor Siemian, who wouldn't even be a good QB in the Arena League. John Elway has some work to do.

1) Not as much hoop action during the day today, but what a card of games tonight, lot of semi-final games, high-level competition. Good time to order more pizza.

Nebraska won last two nights after going 2-9 in last 11 regular season games; they used only one kid more than 30:00 last nite, but Maryland hasn't played since Sunday, so they're more rested team here. Terps are 3-0 vs Nebraska in Big 14 games, winning by 4-3-5 points.

Atlantic 14 tournament (Brooklyn)
St Joe's won 84-66 at George Washington Feb 10, shooting 64% inside arc, scoring 1.38 ppp; in last decade, Hawks are 8-2 in first tournament game, losing 60-49 to Bonnies LY. AAC tournament (Orlando)
Cincinnati beat UConn twice this year, 58-57 on road Jan 28, 65-50 at home Feb 20- Huskies shot under 39% inside arc both games. They say both teams are on bubble; is this an elimination game? Bearcats won first conference tourney game five of last six years; they're 9-3 in last twelve games overall, 2-3 in last five on road. UConn lost three of last five tilts since beating SMU at home- they're 12-3 in conference tourneys the last five years- they didn't play in one in 2013.

Memphis is 5-9 in its last 14 games; they lost first AAC tourney game last two years- this is their worst season in years. Tigers beat Tulsa ten days ago at home, 92-82; were 31-39 on foul line, shot 56% inside arc, scoring 1.21 ppp- that was Tulsa's only loss in last five games- veteran Hurricane team is 8-1 in first conference tourney game in last nine years. A&M is 4-7 in tourneys last seven years, losing its first game last two years. Florida was on a 1-4 skid before beating Arkansas yesterday; only one Gator played 30:00+. Florida is 10-4 in SEC tourney last 5+ years, but obviously that was in Donovan era- this is a young Gator squad with a new coach.

Musketeers are 13-2 in last 15 gams; no one played more than 28 minutes last nite, while Seton Hall played three starters 35:00+. Xavier is deeper team here; Seton Hall should have big edge in crowd support. .

Baylor lost three of its last five games; they lost twice to Kansas this year, 102-74 in Lawrence Jan 2, 66-60 at home Feb 23. Conference Tournament Betting Previews

ACC Conference Tournament Semifinals Betting Preview

Notre Dame beat the Tar Heels in the only matchup between the two teams this season, 80-76 at home on Feb. 6.

It's on to the semifinals in the Atlantic Coast Conference as all of the top four seeds have advanced to Friday's matchups. North Carolina (1) will take on Notre Dame (4) and Virginia (2) will tangle with Miami (3).

Tournament to be played at Verizon Center, Washington, D.C.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. North Carolina Tar Heels (-7.5, 156.5)

* The Fighting Irish roared back from 16 points down in the second half Thursday to upend the Blue Devils 84-79 in overtime, keeping their hopes alive for a second consecutive ACC title. “Our life was flashing before our very eyes,” Notre Dame coach Mike Brey told the media after the comeback. Forward Zach Auguste put on a monster performance with a career-high 22 rebounds to go with 19 points. Notre Dame beat the Tar Heels in the only matchup between the two teams this season, 80-76 at home on Feb. 6, and rallied from a nine-point deficit to defeat North Carolina 90-82 in the conference title game last March.

* North Carolina may not have impressed people despite winning 25 of its first 31 games, but the Tar Heels raced to Friday’s ACC semifinal thanks to a superb second half Thursday against Pittsburgh. “In the second half, I think we got better ball movement than we did in the first half,” guard Joel Berry II told reporters after scoring 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting, teaming with forward Brice Johnson (19 points, 10 rebounds) to pull away in the final 15 minutes of Thursday's 88-71 triumph.

Betting Stats:

Notre Dame - 21-10 SU, 14-14-1 ATS, 15-14 O/U
North Carolina - 26-6 SU, 14-17-1 ATS, 17-15 O/U

Trends:

* Fighting Irish are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
* Underdog is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings.
* Under is 4-1 in Fighting Irish last 5 vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
* Over is 5-1 in Tar Heels last 6 Friday games.

Miami Hurricanes vs. Virginia Cavaliers (OFF)

* The 11th-ranked Hurricanes built a big lead and held off a rally to beat Virginia Tech 88-82 in the quarterfinals Thursday as Sheldon McClellan and Angel Rodriguez combined for 40 points. The teams split a pair of meetings during the regular season, with each winning at home. McClellan and Rodriguez are looking to put together big runs in their final chance in the ACC tournament while Davon Reed also is stepping up with at least 17 points in four of his last five games.

* Fourth-ranked Virginia pulled away for a 72-52 victory over Georgia Tech in Thursday’s quarterfinals as ACC Player of the Year Malcolm Brogdon poured in 26 points and moved into 11th place on the program’s all-time list with 1,713. The Cavaliers have reached three straight semifinals for the first time since 1993-95 and won the title in 2014. While Brogdon and fellow senior Anthony Gill (13.5 points, 6.2 rebounds) do their thing consistently, London Perrantes plays just as big a role.

Betting Stats:

Miami - 25-6 SU, 18-11-1 ATS, 14-16 O/U
Virginia - 25-6 SU, 16-13 ATS, 11-18 O/U

* Virginia is 4-0 ATS in its last four games overall.
* Under is 10-1 in Virginia's last 11 games overall.
* Under is 5-1 in the last six meetings.

AAC Tournament Quarterfinal Betting Preview

Orlando will be rockin' as the AAC features their strongest teams in a Friday quadruple-header.

The AAC has a very busy day scheduled for Friday. The conference quarterfinals start early and end late, featuring some very interesting matchups with Cincinnati (4) vs. UConn (5) as the best looking battle on paper.

Tournament to be played at Amway Center, Orlando, Florida.

South Florida vs. Temple (-11, OFF)

* The Bulls rode strong efforts from Angel Nunez (19 points, 11 rebounds) and Chris Perry (18 points) in the win over the Pirates, snapping a three-game slide in the process. They played the Owls twice during the regular season, losing by seven points and 12 points as they could not stop Quenton DeCosey (career-high 30 points) in the first meeting and could not contain Jaylen Bond (18 points, 14 rebounds) in the second matchup.

* The Owls won their final three games in the regular season and are projected to be in the NCAA Tournament field - albeit barely. "I am sure any of us in this league would say we need to do our best and win games to get in the NCAA Tournament," Fran Dunphy, the league's Coach of the Year, told the media this week. Temple's strength is its defense, as it allows 67.3 points - 69th-best in the nation - and has given up 62 or fewer in each of its last three games.

Betting Stats:

South Florida - 8-24 SU, 15-12 ATS, 16-11 O/U

Temple - 20-10 SU, 16-12 ATS, 13-14-1 O/U

Trends:

* Bulls are 13-4-1 ATS in their last 18 Friday games.
* Owls are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
* Over is 5-0 in Bulls last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
* Under is 5-0 in Owls last 5 vs. American Athletic Conference.

Connecticut Huskies vs. Cincinnati Bearcats (-1, 124)

* Daniel Hamilton earned second-team All-AAC honors after leading the Huskies in rebounding (8.7) and assists (4.8) this season and was a double-figure scorer (11.6). But even Hamilton's play has slipped a bit down the stretch and he did not start the second half of UConn's finale, a 67-46 win over UCF.

* Sophomore forward Gary Clark leads the Bearcats with seven double-doubles on the season but he has struggled mightily in the final games of the season. Clark, who was named the conference's defensive player of the year, is 0-for-14 from the field in his last two games, and 0-for-24 since making his first two field-goal attempts on Feb. 27 against East Carolina.

Betting Stats:

Connecticut - 21-10 SU, 13-13-1 ATS, 11-15-1 O/U

Cincinnati - 22-9 SU, 12-15 ATS, 9-17-1 O/U

Trends:

* Huskies are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
* Bearcats are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win.
* Under is 4-0-1 in Huskies last 5 games after allowing less than 50 points in their previous game.
* Under is 4-0 in Bearcats last 4 vs. American Athletic Conference.

Tulane Green Wave vs. Houston Cougars (OFF)* Louis Dabney leads the Green Wave with 14.5 points per game after scoring 13 in the 65-63 win against UCF. Malik Morgan nearly recorded a double-double Thursday and chips in 12.6 points while Dylan Osetkowski adds 11.2 points and 8.4 rebounds. Cameron Reynolds (6.5 points) added 12 points off the bench in the first round, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with three minutes left.

* Rob Gray Jr. - the league's leading scorer at 16.3 per game - is averaging 12.4 points off the bench since returning from an ankle injury that sidelined him for four games. Forwards Damyean Dotson (13.8 points, 6.9 rebounds) and Devonta Pollard (13.9, 5.7) are each averaging 17.8 points while scoring in double figures in nine consecutive games (Dotson has gone 10 straight).

Betting Stats:

Tulane - 11-21 SU, 10-15-1 ATS, 14-12 O/U

Houston - 22-8 SU, 15-9-1 ATS, 13-11-1 O/U

Trends:

* Green Wave are 0-7-1 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
* Cougars are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 vs. American Athletic Conference.
* Under is 5-0 in Green Wave last 5 Friday games.
* Over is 5-1 in Cougars last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.

Memphis Tigers vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane (-3, 153)

* With the end of his collegiate career in sight, Shaq Goodwin is doing all he can to keep Memphis alive and kicking with wins. He had 28 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in the Tigers' win over Tulsa Feb. 28, then had 17 points and a game-high eight boards in a rout of East Carolina on Sunday. "We know what we have to do in order to get to the NCAA Tournament, and that's win every game."

* The Golden Hurricane has won six of eight heading into the tournament, though many believe Frank Haith's squad needs to pick up a couple of victories to assure itself of a place in the NCAA Tournament. To get that, the duo of James Woodard (15.8 points) and Shaquille Harrison (14.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists) will need to come up big against an explosive Memphis squad.

Betting Stats:

Memphis - 17-14 SU, 11-17 ATS, 14-14 O/U

Tulsa - 20-10 SU, 14-12-3 ATS, 16-13 O/U

Trends:

* Tigers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up win.
* Golden Hurricane are 0-6-1 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games.
* Over is 6-0 in Tigers last 6 vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
* Over is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings.

Big 12 Tournament Semifinals Betting Preview

Kansas has won seven straight vs. Baylor, including 66-60 and 102-74 wins during the regular season.

Baylor advanced to Friday with an upset (based on conference seeding only) over the Texas Longhorns and they have the unlucky task of meeting Kansas in the semifinals.

Tournament to be played at Sprint Center, Kansas City, Mo.

Baylor Bears vs. Kansas Jayhawks (-5.5, 145)

* After Thursday’s 75-61 quarterfinal win over fourth-seeded Texas, Baylor coach Scott Drew said he expects it to be even more challenging this time around against Kansas, which owns the top field-goal percentage defense in the conference at 39.6 percent. “I think (Kansas’ defense) has been consistent, and that's why they've been where have been at,” Drew said in his post-game news conference. “And I think a couple of years past, they had some teams that were mostly on the offensive end, but didn't consistently guard as well as this team is doing. They really make you work for everything.”

* The Jayhawks shot 57.1 percent from the floor against Kansas State, marking the eighth game they’ve shot 50 percent or better during their 12-game win streak. All-Big 12 first-team forward Perry Ellis scored a team-high 21 points, giving him three straight contests with at least 20. Aside from Ellis’ team-leading 16.6 points per outing, guards Frank Mason III (13.5), Wayne Selden Jr. (13.1) and Devonte’ Graham (11.2) also are averaging double digits.

Oklahoma Sooners vs. West Virginia Mountaineers (OFF)

* Second-seeded West Virginia never trailed Thursday in dispatching the 10th-seeded Horned Frogs and wound up shooting 55.6 percent from the field, including 11-of-24 from 3-point range, to end its 0-for-the-Big-12-Tournament skid at three games. Devin Williams, a second-team All-Big 12 selection, notched his conference-leading 14th double-double Thursday, scoring 18 points and grabbing 13 rebounds to pace the rout.

* Oklahoma swept the regular-season series, including a 76-62 win in Morgantown on Feb. 20. The Sooners advanced with a 79-76 win Thursday night over 19th-ranked and sixth-seeded Iowa State, the two-time defending Big 12 tourney champions, as Buddy Hield, the conference player of the year, poured in 39 points. Hield hit 14-of-21 shots, draining all nine of his free throws and grabbing nine rebounds while notching his 10th 30-point contest of the season and setting the program’s Big 12 Tournament single-game scoring record.

Betting Stats:

Oklahoma - 25-6 SU, 12-17 ATS, 13-16 O/U
West Virginia - 25-7 SU, 19-10 ATS, 13-15-1 O/U

Big East Conference Tournament Semifinals Betting Preview

Villanova and Providence split the season series, creating rubber game when the teams meet Friday at MSG.

Top seed Villanova easily handled a vastly outmatched Georgetown team in the quarterfinals and will draw the scrappy Providence Friers on Friday.

Tournament to be played at Madison Square Garden, New York, NY

Providence Friars vs. Villanova Wildcats (-9, 140)

* Ben Bentil scored a career-high 38 points on 16-of-24 shooting, adding eight rebounds and two blocks to a scoring performance that ranks as the second-highest in the history of the Big East tournament. The sophomore forward will certainly be a handful for Villanova, which prides itself on defense but often uses three- and four-guard lineups to create mismatches in its favor.

* Josh Hart led Villanova with 25 points on Thursday and is two wins from leading the Wildcats to the Big East tournament title for the second straight season. While Hart and the Villanova guards are the driving force behind the team's success, Daniel Ochefu may be the player the Wildcats can least afford to lose. The 6-11 senior center, who came into the tournament averaging 10.3 points and 8.1 rebounds, tweaked a lingering ankle injury against Georgetown and was limited to 13 minutes in that contest, leaving his status for the rest of the tournament in doubt.

Betting Stats:

Providence - 23-9 SU, 17-14 ATS, 18-13 O/U
Villanova - 28-4 SU, 15-15-1 ATS, 16-14-1 O/U

Trends:

* Friars are 12-2 ATS in their last 14 neutral site games.
* Wildcats are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win.
* Under is 16-5 in Friars last 21 neutral site games.
* Over is 7-0 in Wildcats last 7 overall.

Seton Hall Pirates vs. Xavier Musketeers (OFF)

* Isaiah Whitehead recorded 24 points to go along with 12 rebounds and six assists as the Pirates outlasted Creighton 81-73 on Thursday. Khadeen Carrington, who was held to seven points in Seton Hall's 90-81 win over Xavier on Feb. 28, hit five 3-pointers en route to a career-high 27 points to help the Pirates to their ninth win in 11 games. The Xavier Musketeers will be wary of Desi Rodriguez, who topped the 20-point mark in both meetings this season and posted career highs of 27 points and 12 rebounds in the victory late last month.

* Trevon Bluiett struggled through a difficult postseason for Xavier last March, but the surging sophomore is off to a great start this time around. The All-Big East First Team selection had no issues standing out in Thursday's 90-72 quarterfinal win over Marquette by scoring 24 points and going 5-of-8 from 3-point range. Coach Chris Mack's squad has scored at least 85 points in eight of its last nine victories as contributions come from all over. "Offensively, I thought our guys really shared the ball, but that's nothing new," Mack told reporters on Thursday.

Betting Stats:

Seton Hall - 21-9 SU, 16-13-1 ATS, 16-12-1 O/U
Xavier - 22-9 SU, 16-14 ATS, 18-12 O/U

Trends:

* Pirates are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 vs. Big East.
* Musketeers are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games.
* Over is 4-0 in Pirates last 4 vs. Big East.

Big Ten Conference Tournament Quarterfinals Betting Preview

Second-ranked Michigan St. looks to continue its recent domination in the Big Ten Tournament when it takes on No. 7 seed Ohio St. in the quarterfinal Friday.

There are bubble teams all over the place in the Big Ten quarterfinal matchups. Michigan, Illinois, Nebraska, and Ohio State all feel that they need to win this entire event in order to get in to the Big Dance. Friday should be lots of fun in Indianapolis.

Tournament to be played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, IN

Michigan Wolverines vs. Indiana Hoosiers (-7, 144)

* Zak Irvin knocked down a 15-foot jumper with 3.3 seconds remaining in overtime to lift Michigan past Northwestern 72-70 in the second round Thursday. The Wolverines have won at least one Big Ten Tournament game in each of the last 10 years, which is the longest active streak in the conference. Michigan is still on the wrong side of the bubble according to most prognosticators and will likely need to upset Indiana to avoid missing the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year.

* Indiana has scored at least 80 points in five of its last seven wins and hopes to continue its hot shooting as it vies for its first Big Ten Tournament title since the tourney's inception in 1998. Yogi Ferrell was named to the All-Big Ten first team after averaging 17.1 points and 5.5 assists per game during the regular season while Max Bielfeldt, who spent the previous three years at Michigan, earned Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year honors after averaging eight points and 4.5 rebounds.

Betting Stats:

Michigan - 21-11 SU, 15-15 ATS, 19-10-1 O/U
Indiana - 25-6 SU, 17-14 ATS, 15-16 O/U

Trends:

* Wolverines are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up win.
* Hoosiers are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
* Over is 5-0 in Wolverines last 5 Friday games.
* Over is 4-1 in Hoosiers last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.

Illinois Fighting Illini vs. Purdue Boilermakers (-11, 139)

* Illinois, which routed Minnesota 85-52 in an opening-round victory Wednesday behind a tournament-record 14 3-pointers, stunned Iowa 68-66 on Thursday on Malcolm Hill's go-ahead jumper with just over a minute remaining after the Illini blew an 11-point advantage in 98 seconds. The win was only Illinois' second in eight tries against ranked foes this season but improved the school's record in the tournament as a double-digit seed to 8-2.

* The Boilermakers rank third in the league in scoring defense (64.9), but averaged 82 points and shot 56.9 percent over their final four games, including 62.2 percent - the best mark in 11 seasons under coach Matt Painter - in Sunday's 91-80 win over Wisconsin. First-team all-conference selection A.J. Hammons (14.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.6 blocks) became the second straight Purdue player to win the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Award, giving the program seven recipients of the honor in the last 14 years.

Betting Stats:

Illinois - 15-18 SU, 14-14-3 ATS, 15-15-1 O/U
Purdue - 24-7 SU, 15-11-1 ATS, 14-13 O/U

Trends:

* Fighting Illini are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Friday games.
* Boilermakers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
* Under is 9-1-1 in Fighting Illini last 11 games following a ATS win.
* Over is 4-0 in Boilermakers last 4 vs. Big Ten.

Ohio St Buckeyes vs. Michigan St Spartans (OFF)

* Ohio State overturned a three-point halftime deficit to beat Penn State 79-75 in the second round of the tournament Thursday. The Buckeyes have won 15 of their last 18 Big Ten Tournament games and hope to keep their NCAA Tournament dreams alive by beating the Spartans for the first time this season after losing both meetings in February. Ohio State has struggled recently against Michigan State, dropping the last four games in the series, including a 76-67 setback in the quarterfinal stage of last year's tournament.

* Michigan State is firing on all cylinders with wins in 10 of its last 11 games, including four straight victories by an average margin of 24 points to finish the regular season. Senior forward Denzel Valentine was named the USA Today National Player of the Year and earned Big Ten Player of the Year honors after averaging 19.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists during the regular season.

Betting Stats:

Ohio St - 20-12 SU, 16-14-1 ATS, 16-15 O/U
Michigan St - 26-5 SU, 21-9 ATS, 16-14 O/U

Trends:

* Buckeyes are 3-14 ATS in their last 17 neutral site games.
* Spartans are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 vs. Big Ten.
* Over is 6-1 in Buckeyes last 7 games following a ATS loss.
* Buckeyes are 0-5 ATS in the last 5 meetings.

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Maryland Terrapins (OFF)

* The Cornhuskers knocked off Rutgers in the first round and upset sixth-seeded Wisconsin 70-58 on Thursday with a second straight 20-point performance by Shavon Shields. Nebraska, which held Wisconsin to 30.2 percent shooting, lost five straight to end the regular season. Shields is averaging 21.6 points in five games since returning from a concussion that forced him to miss four straight contests.

* The 15th-ranked Terrapins lost four of their last six games in conference play, including a humbling 80-62 defeat at Indiana on Sunday, but have had four days to rest. Melo Trimble, who was named to the Big Ten Second Team, scored 20 points in the 75-70 victory over Nebraska on Feb. 3. The Terrapins must improve on the defensive end in the postseason after allowing 80 or more points in three of their last four contests.

Betting Stats:

Nebraska - 16-17 SU, 16-12 ATS, 16-11-1 O/U
Maryland - 24-7 SU, 13-16-1 ATS, 11-18-1 O/U

Trends:

* Nebraska is 4-0 ATS in its last founr neutral site games.
* Maryland is 1-4-1 ATS in its last six games overall.
* Under is 6-1 in Nebraska's last seven games versus a team with a winning percentage above .600.

Pac-12 Conference Tournament Semifinals Betting Preview

Oregon and Arizona have developed one of the hottest rivalries in the Pac-12 and they'll continue it Friday when the top-seeded Ducks meet the No. 4 Wildcats.

It's time for the final four teams from the PAC-12 conference to tussle in Vegas. The MGM Grand Garden Arena will be rockin' as Oregon (1) takes on Arizona (4) and

Tournament to be played at MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV.

Arizona Wildcats vs. Oregon Ducks (OFF)

* A big difference for the Wildcats in their rematch against Oregon will be the presence of freshman wing Allonzo Trier, who missed the earlier meeting against the Ducks with a broken hand. Trier came into the tournament third on the team in scoring at 14.6 points and then put up 23 points against Colorado. Arizona shooting guard Gabe York will also earn a lot of attention after scoring 18 points in the home loss to the Ducks, converting 4-of-9 from 3-point range.

* Dillon Brooks also played well when these teams met in January, scoring 24 points to lead all scorers. He hasn't shot the ball as well over the last three weeks, but the Ducks have plenty of other options, most notably fellow 6-6 wing Elgin Cook, who joined Chris Boucher with 19 points in Thursday's win against Colorado. Tyler Dorsey is also playing well of late, but the Ducks are hoping to get more from their bench and top reserve Dwayne Benjamin, who scored 15 points against Arizona earlier this season, but has reached double figures in three of 11 games since.

Betting Stats:

Arizona - 25-7 SU, 16-16 ATS, 21-11 O/U
Oregon - 26-6 SU, 17-12 ATS, 12-17 O/U

Trends:

* Wildcats are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
* Ducks are 12-1 ATS in their last 13 Friday games.
* Over is 6-0 in Wildcats last 6 games following a straight up win.
* Under is 5-0 in Ducks last 5 vs. Pacific-12.

California Golden Bears vs. Utah Utes (OFF)

* The Bears led the Pac-12 in scoring defense at 66.2 points per game and boast one of the league’s top backcourts in Tyrone Wallace, Jordan Mathews and Jabari Bird, who made five 3-pointers and scored 20 points in the quarterfinal win over the Beavers. Jaylen Brown, who was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, scored 27 points against Utah on Jan. 27 but was held to eight on 1-of-6 shooting on Thursday. Cal is the league’s worst foul-shooting squad, and its woes continued against the Beavers as Rabb was 3-of-10 and the team finished 19-of-32.

* The last Pac-12 Player of the Year to win the conference’s tournament title was UCLA’s Kevin Love in 2008, but Utah's Jakob Poeltl is close to adding his name to the list. Poeltl’s next obstacle comes Friday as the second-seeded Utes face No. 3 seed California in the semifinals at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Poeltl recorded 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists to help Utah post an 80-72 win over seventh-seeded USC in Thursday’s quarterfinals, while Ivan Rabb tallied 21 points and 15 boards as Cal held off sixth-seeded Oregon State 76-68.

Betting Stats:

California - 23-9 SU, 18-13-1 ATS, 15-17 O/U
Utah - 25-7 SU, 15-14-1 ATS, 16-13-1 O/U

Trends:

* Golden Bears are 7-0-1 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
* Utes are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up win.
* Over is 8-2 in Golden Bears last 10 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
* Over is 4-0 in Utes last 4 neutral site games.

SEC Conference Tournament Quarterfinals Betting Preview

Kentucky won the two regular-season meetings over Alabama by an average of 20.5 points.

The SEC rolls on to the quarterfinals Friday afternoon in Nashville. The crowd favorite Tennessee Vols will continue their Cinderella run as they, of course, must win the conference tournament in order to get a spot in the NCAA Tournament after a horrible regular season. Ben Simmons and the LSU Tigers are up next.

Tournament to be played at Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, TN

Florida Gators vs. Texas A&M Aggies (-4, 140)

* The Gators are excellent defensively, which they showed by holding a potent Arkansas team to its fourth-lowest point total of the season. Forward Dorian Finney-Smith (15 points, 8.2 rebounds) leads a trio of players who average double-digit scoring, but it was reserve Kasey Hill (8.3 points) who led the way against the Razorbacks with 18 points. Center John Egbunu (11.4 points, 6.4 rebounds) was able to play through a torn ligament in his thumb to collect eight points and nine rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench Thursday, and his presence will be critical to the Gators’ chances of upsetting the Aggies.

* The Aggies’ length on the wings makes them a difficult matchup for anyone, as 6-7 swingmen Jalen Jones (15.8 points, 7.2 rebounds) and Danuel House (15.3 points, 4.8 rebounds) provide a difficult one-two punch to guard. Freshman center Tyler Davis (11.2 points, 6.0 rebounds) is another tough defensive assignment in the post, and point guard Alex Caruso (7.8 points, 5.1 assists) is an excellent distributor who can score when needed.

Betting Stats:

Florida - 19-13 SU, 15-14-1 ATS, 16-14 O/U
Texas A&M - 24-7 SU, 13-11-2 ATS, 10-16 O/U

Trends:

* Gators are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
* Aggies are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. Southeastern.
* Under is 4-0 in Gators last 4 games following a straight up win.
* Gators are 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings.

Tennessee Volunteers vs. Louisiana State Tigers (OFF)

* The Volunteers were the surprise of the day Thursday, upsetting No. 5 seed Vanderbilt 67-65 despite playing without leading scorer Kevin Punter Jr. due to a season-ending foot injury. With Punter sidelined, the Volunteers needed someone to step up at the offensive end, and sophomore guard Detrick Mostella has answered the call with 35 points in the first two games of the tournament. Armani Moore (12.4 points, 7.7 rebounds) and Robert Hubbs III (10.3 points) also scored in double figures against Vanderbilt and continue to be Tennessee’s most consistent offensive players without Punter on the floor.

* LSU also will be without one of its top players, as senior guard Keith Hornsby had a season-ending procedure for an internal injury. The Tigers hope to avoid bowing out in the quarterfinals for a second consecutive year after losing to No. 13 seed Auburn in overtime in their first game of the tournament a year ago. The Volunteers clobbered the visiting Tigers 81-65 on Feb. 20 before losing their final four regular-season contests.

Betting Stats:

Tennessee - 15-18 SU, 16-15-1 ATS, 12-17-3 O/U
Louisiana State - 18-13 SU, 10-18 ATS, 12-16 O/U

Trends:

* Volunteers are 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 games following a straight up win.
* Tigers are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 Friday games.
* Under is 6-0 in Volunteers last 6 games following a ATS win.
* Under is 5-1 in Tigers last 6 games following a straight up loss.

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Kentucky Wildcats (OFF)

* Alabama committed only nine turnovers in its mild upset over seventh-seeded Ole Miss, and senior guard Retin Obasohan scored all 17 of his points in the second half. Obasohan averages a team-best 17.7 points and also leads the Crimson Tide with 44 steals. The late-season slide has the Crimson Tide well aware that they need to win the SEC tourney to make the NCAA Tournament, and they got off to a strong start with 12 3-pointers and a season-best 12 blocked shots in the victory over the Rebels.

* Second-seeded Kentucky has won three SEC titles in John Calipari's previous six seasons as coach and looks to take a step toward another when it meets 10th-seeded Alabama in Friday's conference tournament quarterfinals at Nashville, Tenn. Kentucky sophomore point guard Tyler Ulis headlines the club after averaging 16.6 points and 7.4 assists while winning SEC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Betting Stats:

Alabama - 18-13 SU, 15-14 ATS, 13-16 O/U
Kentucky - 23-8 SU, 15-16 ATS, 16-14-1 O/U

Trends:

* Crimson Tide are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. Southeastern.
* Wildcats are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Friday games.
* Under is 4-1 in Crimson Tide last 5 games following a straight up win.
* Under is 4-1 in Wildcats last 5 games after scoring more than 90 points in their previous game.

Georgia Bulldogs vs. South Carolina Gamecocks (OFF)

* J.J. Frazier has posted four 20-point outings during his six-game hot stretch, and he leads the Bulldogs in scoring (16.8) and assists (4.3). Frazier (73) and senior guard Kenny Gaines (79) have combined for 152 of the Bulldogs' 194 3-pointers and the two players combined for 39 points in Georgia's recent 74-72 road win at South Carolina. Sophomore forward Yante Maten is strong in the interior with averages of 16 points and a team-best eight rebounds while Gaines (13.4) and senior guard Charles Mann (10.5) also average in double digits.

* South Carolina figures it has done enough to reach the NCAA Tournament, but that also complicates the decision on whether or not to play leading scorer Michael Carrera when the third-seeded Gamecocks face sixth-seeded Georgia in Friday's SEC Tournament quarterfinals in Nashville, Tenn. Carrera missed the regular-season finale against Arkansas with a hip injury, and the senior forward is hoping to be fit enough to play against the Bulldogs, who defeated South Carolina twice in the regular season. Carrera, a senior forward, averages 14.5 points and a team-leading 7.7 rebounds, and coach Frank Martin expects to be challenged by the feisty leader if he opts to rest him.

Betting Stats:

Georgia - 14-16 SU, 17-10 ATS, 14-13 O/U
South Carolina - 17-12 SU, 16-13 ATS, 16-13 O/U

Trends:

* Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. Southeastern.
* Gamecocks are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 neutral site games.
* Over is 6-0 in Bulldogs last 6 vs. Southeastern.
* Under is 7-1 in Gamecocks last 8 Friday games.

Saturday's Betting Notebook
March 12, 2016

-- Michigan and Indiana served as an excellent appetizer for Friday’s shenanigans in conference tournaments from coast to coast. We saw just about everything you can witness in a day of watching hoops. There were blown leads, backdoor covers, buzzer-beaters from beyond half court and off the glass, coaching debacles, complete no-shows, heartbreakers, overtimes and even one four-OT thriller. IU, the Big Ten regular-season champ, was in a tight battle with Michigan to start the day at noon Eastern. The Hoosiers, who closed as 7.5-point favorites at most books, appeared to create a tad bit of separation when they went ahead 66-61 with 2:26 left on a Troy Williams layup. With an and-one opportunity to potentially go ahead six, bettors on IU had to feel decent about their chances. However, Williams missed the free throw, Michigan secured an offensive rebound after a miss at the other end and took advantage when Duncan Robinson converted a three-point play the hard way. Robinson’s heroics trimmed the deficit to two at the 1:50 mark. After trading a bucket for a pair of free throws, IU’s Yogi Ferrell made just 1-of-2 at the charity stripe. Down three, Robinson tied the game with a trey at the 53-second mark. When IU committed a turnover, the Wolverines were able to hold the ball for the last shot. Derrick Walton kicked to Kameron Chatman in the corner and he buried a buzzer-beating 3-pointer. When the refs went to review the clock, they put 0.2 seconds back on but it wouldn’t matter. Michigan collected a 72-69 win, hooking up money-line backers with a +320 payout (paid $320 on $100 wagers).

-- Michigan has to feel great about its at-large hopes after the win over Indiana, but it can remove all doubt with a win today in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. John Beilein’s team will take on the Purdue Boilermakers, who were 7.5-point favorites as of early Saturday morning. Matt Painter’s team blasted Illinois 89-58 as an 11.5-point favorite to advance to the semifinals.

-- The other Big Ten semifinal will pit Maryland against Michigan State There was no early line as of early this morning. The Terrapins captured a 97-86 win over Nebraska as eight-point ‘chalk.’ They led by as many as 25, only to allow the Cornhuskers to get within six and ahead of the number with 1:37 remaining. Tim Miles’s team would get no closer, though, and the Terps closed the game with five straight free throws. Jake Layman scored 26 points and Diamond Stone finished with 23 points and eight rebounds. Melo Trimble scored 16 points, handed out eight assists and pulled down seven rebounds.

-- Michigan State made quick work of Ohio State for the second time in a week, cruising to an 81-54 win to end any hopes of an NCAA bid for the Buckeyes. The Spartans took the cash easily as 13-point favorites. They have now covered the spread in 12 consecutive games. These teams met once during the regular season, with Tom Izzo’s team winning a 74-65 decision over Maryland as a four-point home favorite at Breslin Center on Jan. 23. Michigan State is 11-1 SU and 12-0 ATS since then, suffering its only loss by one in overtime at Purdue. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Eastern on CBS.

-- The ‘over’ is 8-2 in Michigan State’s last 10 games.

-- Texas A&M advanced to the SEC Tournament semifinals by capturing a 72-66 win over Florida. Wagers on the side and total were completely determined by when gamblers placed their bets. Most spots opened the Aggies as four-point favorites with a total of 140. But most shops closed Texas A&M as a favorite of 5.5 or six points. The total closed anywhere from 136 to 137.5 points. Tyler Davis led the winners with 15 points and eight rebounds. Danuel House also had 15 points, but he was 5-of-20 from the field and took a terrible shot early in the possession leading by four with less than a minute remaining. UF would cut the deficit to two on a pair of free throws by Kasey Hill with 30 ticks left. But the Aggies made a pair of free throws and then forced a turnover that led to a run-out layup to seal the deal.

-- Texas A&M will take on LSU today at 1:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN. William Hill opened the Aggies as seven-point favorites, while several offshores had the total at 150 on the send-out. The Tigers beat Tennessee 84-75 in a game that was closer than the final score indicated. Playing its third game in as many days against a fresh LSU squad, UT simply ran out of gas in the final five minutes. LSU took advantage and covered as a 4.5-point favorite.

-- Kentucky rolled past Alabama 85-59 as a 13-point favorite. The Wildcats also covered the spread for first-half bets as seven-point ‘chalk.’ They are now 7-4 ATS in their last 11 games as double-digit favorites. Jamal Murray led the way against the Crimson Tide with 23 points and four assists. Alex Poythress finished with 20 points and seven rebounds, draining 4-of-5 from 3-point range.

-- UK will face Georgia in the second SEC semifinal at around 3:30 p.m. Eastern today. These teams played once during the regular season with the ‘Cats coasting to an easy 82-48 win as 13-point favorites. Mark Fox’s team played from behind nearly all night Friday against South Carolina, which was playing without star Michael Carrera due to a hip injury. UGA didn’t take its first lead of the game until late in the second half. Trailing by two at crunch time, J.J. Frazier found himself double-teamed out near half court with 7-8 seconds left on the shot clock. The lightning-fast junior point guard still had his dribble, though, and somehow sliced through both defenders, maneuvered into the lane and made a wild floater in traffic to tie the game with 24 seconds remaining. On S-Carolina’s ensuing possession, Sindarius Thornwell tried to penetrate but Frazier tapped the ball away and then secured the loose ball in a scramble before being fouled with 2.1 seconds left. Frazier made the first free throw to put the Bulldogs in front before Fox wisely called his last timeout. As he and every other coach should always do in this situation (keep in mind that Frank Martin was out of timeouts), Fox instructed Frazier to miss the second free throw on purpose while making sure to hit the rim. In this scenario, the opponent is forced to heave a 75-80 footer. If Frazier were to make the second free throw, South Carolina would’ve had the same chance Oklahoma would get about 20 minutes later (more on this below). Instead, the Gamecocks made a pass after rebounding Frazier’s miss and didn’t get a shot off. UGA beat South Carolina for the third time this year, 65-64, as a 1.5-point underdog. Frazier finished with 20 points one night after scoring 28 in a win over Mississippi State. Yante Maten added 17 points and 12 boards.

-- Iowa State. pulled out an improbable backdoor cover in its loss to Oklahoma on Thursday. It was Baylor’s turn to pull the same trick Friday night at Sprint Center in Kansas City. Scott Drew’s team trailed by 16 with 1:50 left, yet it was able to cut the deficit to three with eight ticks left. Kansas would prevail by a 70-66 count, but Baylor posted an improbable backdoor cover as a 7.5-point underdog. The Jayhawks face West Virginia in the Big 12 finals tonight at 6:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

-- I’ve always been a big fan of Bob Huggins and will remain so for a long time (if not forever). With that said, I lost a lot of respect for his coaching acumen late Friday night in KC. Jaysean Paige’s midrange jumper with 11.1 seconds remaining put West Virginia up 68-67 on Oklahoma. After a miss by OU’s Christian James, Jonathan Holton snared the rebound and was fouled with 1.8 left. Twenty minutes before in a similar situation, Mark Fox’s coaching savvy was on full display when he directed J.J. Frazier to miss as described above. Huggins did no such thing. Hell, it didn’t even occur to him. After Holton missed the first free throw, he made the second. Big mistake! Now OU can throw the ball down the court without dripping clock. The Sooners inbounded to Buddy Hield, who took two quick dribbles and went into the air at half court. A WVU defender caused Hield to lean a little in mid-air before releasing the shot, which kissed home off the glass. The refs counted it to give Oklahoma the win. But in real-time, I didn’t think Hield got the shot off, just as I had thought Thursday on Wade Baldwin’s buzzer shot for Vanderbilt. As Brent Musberger and Fran Fraschilla went nuts and Hield jumped into the crowd and celebrated, I tweeted, “I don’t think he got it off in time.” Moments later, Musberger recognized the refs going to look at the replay. After a long delay, the shot was waved off to give WVU a 69-67 win as a 1.5-point favorite. Jevon Carter scored a game-high 26 points in honor of his late grandmother on her birthday. The Mountaineers will be underdogs to KU in their first appearance in the Big 12 Tournament finals.

-- Providence and Villanova squared off in the first Big East Tournament semifinal Friday at Madison Square Garden in New York City. One night after dropping 38 points on Butler, PU’s Ben Bentil fouled out with 9:40 remaining and only three points. But his dismissal from the game with PU down 11 seemingly ignited his teammates. The Friars went on a 12-3 run to cut the Wildcats’ lead to two with 6:59 remaining. But Ryan Arcidiacono (15 pts., seven boards, four assists and two steals) and Kris Jenkins (21 pts.) were too much for the Friars, who nonetheless covered the number as 8.5-point underdogs.

-- Villanova will collide with Seton Hall in tonight’s Big East finals at MSG in NYC. The Pirates improved to 11-2 ATS with eight outright wins in their last 13 games as underdogs by beating Xavier, 87-83. Kevin Willard’s squad hooked up money-line backers with a +190ish return. Khadeen Carrington led the way with 23 points and seven rebounds, while Isaiah Whitehead finished with 20 points, eight assists and five boards. The Hall is in the Big East Finals for the first time since 1993 during the P.J. Carlesimo Era. This game will tip at 5:30 p.m. Eastern on Fox Sports 1.

-- North Carolina smashed Notre Dame by a 78-47 count as a 7.5-point favorite to advance to the ACC Tourney finals. The Tar Heels will meet Virginia at 9:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN. The Cavaliers nearly blew a spread cover due to uncharacteristic misses at the charity stripe in the final minute. UVA controlled its semifinals showdown against Miami from the opening jump, yet the Hurricanes made it interesting late, especially for our purposes. In fact, a UM layup with three seconds left cut the deficit to three. Fortunately for UVA backers like me, UM fouled immediately and Malcolm Brogdon drained both of the ensuing free throws. Brogdon’s makes gave the Cavs a 73-68 win as four-point ‘chalk,’ but their backers didn’t cash until a Miami half-court heave was off the mark at the horn.

-- Virginia beat UNC 79-74 as a 2.5-point home favorite on Feb. 27. The 153 combined points sailed ‘over’ the 137-point total. Brogdon dropped 26 points on the Tar Heels.

-- How did we wait this long to get to the AAC Tournament?! UConn and Cincinnati squared off with the Bearcats looking for a third win this season over the Huskies, who are on the proverbial bubble and almost certainly had to have a win to keep their at-large hopes alive. Those hopes seemed completely dashed when Cincy’s Kevin Johnson drained a deep trey from the left wing with 0.8 seconds left in the third overtime. But the Bearcats were too busy showboating when the game wasn’t over. Therefore, Jalen Adams was able to get a running start, catch the inbounds pass and get a clean look at about a 60-footer. Adam’s shot went off the glass and in to force a fourth extra session. What?! For a minute, I thought we might have the makings of a challenger for the best game ever in ANY conference-tournament game (with apologies to Maryland-N.C. State in 1974), which obviously was the six-OT thriller won by Syracuse over UConn in 2009 at MSG. But the Huskies went to work in the fourth OT and pulled away for a 104-97 win as two-point underdogs. Daniel Hamilton had 32 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists for the winners. In the losing effort, Troy Caupain tallied 37 points, 10 boards, three steals and five assists without a turnover in 56 minutes of playing time.

-- UConn will face Temple at 3:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2. Most spots had the Huskies favored by three early this morning. Five UConn players logged 43 minutes or more against the Bearcats, so fatigue will be an issue. Hamilton played 55 minutes, Sterling Gibbs went for 54 and Rodney Purvis was on the floor for 49 minutes.

-- I mentioned a no-show earlier, remember? That honor goes to Tulsa, which went into the AAC quarterfinals on the bubble and needing a win over Memphis. Josh Pastner had never won an AAC Tourney game previously, but that changed Friday. The Tigers destroyed the Golden Hurricane from start to finish in an 89-67 shellacking as five-point underdogs. You know, that sort of beatdown couldn’t get dealt to a better guy than Frank Haith. Here’s to you, Frankie!

-- So what does Memphis get next? How about 10th-seeded Tulane? Come again?! That’s right, Tulane is still alive. Even though CBSSports.com’s Gary Parrish reported early Friday that Tulane coach Ed Conroy was about to taste a pink slip, that dismissal hasn’t taken place yet. Conroy’s team beat Houston 72-69 as a 12.5-point underdog to advance to the AAC semifinals. Hey, just up the road in Baton Rouge a few months ago, Les Miles was on his way out the door at LSU. I tell you what, Mr. Conroy. You beat Memphis today and my money says you’ll still be the Green Wave’s coach next week and next year. And if you pull a Dennis Felton circa 2008 SEC Tournament and win the AAC and get to the NCAA Tourney (minus the tornado and venue switch like that ’08 weekend in Atlanta), your AD will be handing you an extension offer in the next two weeks.

-- How late did the action go into this morning at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. By the time Utah knocked off California 82-78 as a 2.5-point favorite in overtime, it was 2:36 a.m. Eastern. The Utes forced OT thanks to Lorenzo Bonam’s driving layup that barely beat the buzzer to tie the game. Jakob Poeltl scored five of his game-high 29 points in OT.

-- Utah will face Oregon in the Pac-12 finals at 10:00 p.m. Eastern tonight on Fox Sports 1. The Ducks inexplicably needed an extra session to dispose of Arizona. The Wildcats, who trailed by as many as 17 in the second half, hit a three to pull within one with 0.8 seconds left. Then the Ducks threw the inbounds pass right to UA’s Mark Tollefsen. They did what?! Tollefsen goes straight up but misses at the buzzer. But wait….there was a whistle. Really?! Yes, Oregon fouled him. With a chance to win at the line, Tollefsen missed the first, only to make the second to force the extra session. Nevertheless, Dana Altman’s team won 95-89 in OT in a pick ‘em affair, but only after taking months (if not years) off of Altman’s life.

-- John Calipari announced Friday that sophomore point guard Tyler Ulis will turn pro after this season.

-- What a day of college basketball – an all-timer for sure! I’m going to bed. I went 4-2 today and my picks are 10-4 in college hoops the last three days. I’ll have some posted shortly…

Armadillo: Saturday's six-pack

Looking at six of the conference tournament finals for Saturday......

-- C-USA-- Middle Tennessee-Old Dominion-- Blue Raiders won the Alaskan Shootout back in November.

-- Big East-- Seton Hall-Villanova-- Kevin Willard rewards his bosses' patience.

-- Big X-- Kansas-WestVirginia-- This will be road game for Mountaineers.

-- MAC-- Buffalo-Akron-- Zips' coach was Lebron James' high school coach.

-- ACC-- Virginia-North Carolina-- These two could meet again at Final Four.

-- Pac-12-- Oregon-Utah-- Ducks already spanked Utah twice this season.

**********

Armadillo: Saturday's List of 13: Wrapping up a full Friday......

13) UConn 104, Cincinnati 97 4OT-- This game tops the 6OT game in the Big East a few years ago, since UConn drained a 60-footer at the buzzer of the third OT to send the game to another five minutes. Not sure how the Huskies will react today against a Temple team they've already lost to twice, but this game was special.

12) West Virginia 69, Oklahoma 67-- Buddy Hield drained a shot from just inside half-court at the buzzer, but it was ruled to be a split-second too late and Bob Huggins makes his first conference tourney final since the 2010 Big East tournament.

11) Oregon 95, Arizona 89 OT-- Wildcats scored four points in last 0:00.6 of game to send it to OT, but Ducks prevailed in OT, sweeping season series with Arizona. Oregon was 10-19 on arc. Arizona has still only won this tournament once since '03.

10) Michigan 72, Indiana 69-- One of Michigan's scrubs hit a 3 from the deep corner at the buzzer and was immediately engulfed by jubilant teammates-- this was so early in the day I almost forgot about it. Michigan could be off the bubble now.

9) Word leaked out that Tulane will fire basketball coach Ed Conroy as soon as their season is over, but there is one small problem:

News spreads quickly these days; people were telling Conroy during the game yesterday that he was being fired. Then his 13-point underdog Green Wave shocked Houston 72-69 and made the AAC semifinals- they play 6-seed Memphis today.

So what if Tulane wins the next two days and makes the NCAAs? Then what?

8) Conroy's uncle was the great writer Pat Conroy who passed away last week- he wrote Conrack, The Great Santini and Prince of Tides.

7) Denver fired hoop coach Joe Scott; this will be a tougher rebuild job than normal, since Scott ran the Princeton offense, so you'll need to recruit players who are suited to a more traditional style of play. Summit League is an underrated conference.

6) Baltimore Orioles are 0-10 this spring, with two ties. I went out of my way the other day to say that this doesn't mean much, but at some point, it has to be at least a little troubling, doesn't it?

Sidebar: I am constantly amazed that people bet on exhibition baseball. Why?

5) Prince Fielder was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea, which had gotten so bad his doctors were alarmed by it. We all need our proper rest, especially athletes.

4) Beach volleyball is a college sport? Since when? If you're a high school kid out there and are trying to choose a college, pick one that has a beach volleyball team. I'm guessing those schools are more fun than most schools.

3) Denver Broncos won the Super Bowl 34 days ago; Friday they traded for Mark Sanchez, putting the celebrations to a complete halt immediately. Quarterback is an important position, or so I'm told. Trading for Sanchez is an emphatic red flag.

2) San Antonio Spurs are 14-0 this season on back end of a back/back, only team not to lose one of them- they're 9-5 vs spread in those games. .

1) Since 2012, only one NFL team has used two #1 picks on a QB, and Cleveland cut both of those picks after only two seasons-- Brandon Weeden and Johnny Manziel.
