Armadillo: Saturday's six-pack
-- Poorly kept secret: Lakers are going to hire Byron Scott as head coach.
-- Mets-Rockies are rumored to be talking about a big trade; if Colorado trades Tulowitzki or Carlos Gonzalez, they better get lot of pitching back.
-- Miami Marlins have the best replay analyst; they've been right on 16 out of 20 replay challenges, best percentage in the major leagues.
-- Atlanta Falcons traded Brett Favre after his rookie season because he partied too much; sound familiar? Johnny Manziel better hope history repeats itself.
-- Cardinals signed AJ Pierzynski to be catcher until Yadier Molina gets healthy.
-- Fantasy football owners will be challenged by 11 new offensive coordinators in the NFL this year-- which ones will be the most aggressive? Important question.

Armadillo: Saturday's List of 13: Thoughts from the desert........
13) Made my first visit this trip to In 'n Out Burger last night; just a tremendous milkshake, excellent hamburgers. We need In 'n Out in upstate New York.
12) Tampa Bay Rays have won eight in a row, are just 4.5 games out of second Wild Card spot with 59 games left to play; don't think they're selling off players.
11) Went to the Fab 48 basketball tournament last night at Bishop Gorman HS; way better talent than the event I was at Wednesday. Still no rosters, but the bleachers were comfortable at least and the games were great fun to watch.
10) Memo to parents watching your kids: Please be quiet. Sat behind a guy who was screaming instructions (Get the ball inside!!! Get the ball to Andre!!!) for the whole damn game. Screaming instructions doesn't help; they have a coach.
9) Want a long road trip? There is a team here from the Canary Islands, which is located just off the northwest coast of mainland Africa, west of Morocco. Boy do they have good players; little deficient at point guard, but they have several kids in the 6-4 to 6-8 range who have great potential.
8) Texas football coach Charlie Strong booted/suspended at least eight players since he took over as head coach. First year is the best time to lay down the law.
7) In his last four starts, Felix Hernandez allowed five earned runs in 30 IP-- he won only one of those four games-- Seattle scored 13 runs in his last five starts.
6) Yasiel Puig had three triples and a double Friday night, first player to do that since 1990, first Dodger with three triples in a game since 1901.
5) Orioles are now 10-3 in extra innings; Buck Showalter is a great manager.
4) Lucas Duda hit a dramatic 9th-inning homer off former Met Francisco Rodriguez, giving New York an unlikely 3-2 win at Miller Park, snapping Brewers' four-game winning streak.
3) Cincinnati lost its 7th straight game- they miss injured Votto-Phillips- they're now 51-51 and 6 games out of first, 3.5 games out of the second Wild Card slot.
2) Zack Greinke struck out four Giants in the third inning Friday, making him the third pitcher in history to strike out four guys in an inning more than once. Chuck Finley did it three times, AJ Burnett has done it twice.
1) I'm off to a junior college showcase event this morning; looking forward to seeing how competitive the older kids are, playing for a college scholarship.
