Cantor Gaming unveiled their Wi-Fi wagering system that now allows bettors to be from almost any device while within the state of Nevada.

"Introducing Wi-Fi enabled sports wagering on personal computing devices was a natural goal after releasing our Android-compatible sports wagering application last October," said Lee Amaitis, president and CEO of Cantor Gaming.

Cantor Gaming sports book director Mike Colbert details the easy process of signing up.

"The best way to do it is go on-line to CantorGaming.com where you can download the application to your lap top, any tablet or phone. It will work with any Wi-Fi connection and you can bet everything through it that we offer inside the book."

Colbert also adds that as of now, bettors will have to make deposits through one of the Cantor books around town, but they can use debit or credit cards to fund the account. Colbert didn't say that process with debit or credit cards might be allowed in the near future, but I kind of got the feeling that it was something they are working on to get approved, which will make the entire process the easiest ever seen in Las Vegas.

With Cantor getting into the online business, it now gives Station Casinos Sports Connection some competition. For the last 10 years, Stations has had that market all to itself.

No Parlay Cards??

One of the other new innovations Cantor books will implement this year is not using parlay cards in the sense we have all been used to over the years. They'll have daily cards posted through account wagering that will be offered in the book and on their new apps, but not in the paper format we have been accustomed to.

This is completely revolutionary from the sense they are abandoning a part of the business that comprises close to 15% of all revenues for many books during football season. Parlay Cards generally hold 30% and are wildly popular with folks that have a mild understanding of how to bet sports. These are the same type of people that line up to enter the no-point contests. Las Vegas loves parlay cards.

The Cantor approach is going after the future and getting people acclimated NOW with all the technology they currently have available. By offering daily cards, they no longer will have stale spreads, they don't have to worry about sharp groups playing round-robin cards and in the process, can also offer higher odds.

It will take Las Vegas locals some time to getting used to, but I wouldn't be surprised to see several books follow suit in the same way or another after another year of getting pounded by the groups. But by no means, do I ever see a local chain of properties like Stations, Coasts or South Point eliminating the paper parlay cards altogether. There's too much money at stake.

The M Resort and Palms are both considered locals properties, and both have Cantor Gaming books. I am almost positive the property GM at both will hear some static from angry guests that can't get their cards like they have been accustomed to in the past.

Station Casinos Unveils Football Contests

No one offers more overlay cash on the table to be taken during football season than Station Casinos. It's a business model that has been highly successful over the years and has kept contestants consistently coming through the doors sampling all the other amenities offered throughout the casino.

Stations will again be offering $2 million in cash and prizes for their popular Great Giveaway contest, which has been voted the most popular in the city for 18 straight years. In addition to the cash prizes, the $25 entry fee also allows contestants the opportunity to win cars and houses by either picking the most winners or losers. They even have a category that pays out for being very ordinary called the fiddle-in-the-middle.

A few years ago, Stations came up with the concept of 'Last Man Standing,' a different type of contest from Great Giveaway that appeals to bettors more because it has a point-spread attached. For $25, contestants pick one game a week. If you win that week, you get to pick again the following week until eventually there is one last man, or woman, standing. All the entry fees are returned as prize money and they guarantee $75,000 for the pro contest and $25,000 for the college.

Last year the pro payout was $86,325 and if a contestant is fortunate enough to win both the pro and college contest, Stations kicks in an additional $100,000 bonus. Some of the promotions Stations will continue this year is the $1 million parlay cards offered on Wednesday and Friday's. 15-out-of-15 against the spread pays $100,000 and 20-out-of-20 pays $1 million. They'll also be offering $1 hot dogs and Budweiser's at any of their casinos whenever there is a football game on. Stations definitely makes it hard not to stop by one their 19 books throughout the city. Realistically, it costs you more money to stay home and watch the games.

2013 Masters Odds posted

It didn't take long for the LVH's Jeff Sherman to have enough information needed to post odds on next year's Masters. Tiger Woods didn't win a major this season, but he did come close enough to make Sherman believe he's on the brink of capturing one as he was made the 11/1 favorite. Rory McIlroy is next at 13/2 followed by Phil Michelson (15/1), Luke Donald (20/1) and Lee Westwood (20/1).

Bubba Watson, who won this year's Masters, is listed at 25/1 and Ernie Els, who won the British Open, is once again in the conservative, but respectable, price of 50/1.

Because these odds will have been posted for so long with several thousand new visitors taking action home with them, it's easy to understand why the Masters annually has the most action of any golf tournament.

Barclays Premier League is Back

It's hard to believe that the Premier League is back in action so soon, but the 2012-13 season kicks off this weekend. The LVH has posted Manchester City as the EVEN money favorites to repeat followed by their rival, Manchester United at 9/4. Man City won their first ever Premier League title last season.

The LVH lists Chelsea as the third choice at 9/2, followed by Arsenal (15/1) and Tottenham (25/1). Liverpool, an18-time top division winner is also listed at 25/1. After that, every team is listed at 150/1 or higher with the bottom 12 teams at 1000/1 of higher. The parity in England's proper football league is not quite the same as it is in American football's top division.

Week 8

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Canadian Bacon: Toronto Argonauts at Calgary Stampeders
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Toronto Argonauts at Calgary Stampeders (-4.5, 55)

So much for a relaxing bye week for the Argos. Toronto released the CFL’s top rusher Cory Boyd, with rumors of on and off-field issues reaching the breaking point.

The Argonauts offense, which is averaging just 23 points per game, hit a new low in Week 6, losing 18-9 to the B.C. Lions while mustering only 215 yards passing and 37 yards on the ground. Quarterback Ricky Ray threw three interceptions and the departed Boyd ran for just 23 yards.

Head coach Scott Milanovich believes the problem is rooted in the offensive line, which underwent a shake-up heading into Saturday’s game. Left tackle Wayne Smith is moving to guard and 6-foot-7 beast Tony Washington is stepping into protect Ray’s blindside.

“Absolutely (the offensive line) can take some blame, but there is blame to be spread around, including me,” Milanovich told the media. “Everybody has to be accountable.”

The Stampeders, who rank third among CFL defenses, will put that new o-line mixture to the test this weekend. Calgary is coming off a solid 31-20 win over Hamilton in Week 7 but has struggled with Toronto in the past.

The Stamps have lost four straight (0-4 ATS) to Toronto after posting six wins in a row over the Argos going back to 2007. One of those losses came in a 39-36 Toronto victory off a last-second field goal back in early July.

"We need to be better prepared. That's been my theme all week long," Calgary head coach John Hufnagel told reporters. "Even though we did some unbelievably hard things well in the game… there were several other plays where we were knuckleheads."

Trends:

* Argonauts are 4-0 ATS in their last four meetings.
* Under is 5-0 in the last five meetings in Calgary.
* Argonauts are 1-5 ATS in their last six meetings in Calgary.

CFL Betting Notes - Week 9

August 21, 2012

THE LINE: The odds haven’t moved much since this one opened. Some books opened at 4 and later moved to 4.5. The total has held steady at 60, which matches the season high for both teams. The over is 6-1 in Hamilton’s games this season and 5-2 in Montreal’s.

HAMILTON: It’s hard coming up with ways to talk about how bad Hamilton’s defense is. For starters, they let Winnipeg QB Joey Elliott win CFL player of the week honors in just his third start ever last week. The Tabbies also rank worst in just about every category that means anything, which is why no team in the league is a better over bet this season. The Ticats have held only two opponents to fewer than 30 points and maybe the lone bright spot is that one of them happens to be Montreal.

The offense looks like it might be starting to crack at the seams while having to carry the load. Quarterback Henry Burris is having a stellar season but he committed four fumbles last week in a game in which Hamilton committed six turnovers. It was the second straight loss and blown cover for Hamilton.

MONTREAL: When a man is as good for as long as Anthony Calvillo has been, it gets boring talking about him. But you have to because he’s had six straight 300-plus passing yard games and he’s on pace to pass for the most yards of his career, which he did in 2004. That’s big because he happens to be the all-time passing leader in pro football history.

That’s a roundabout way of saying Montreal’s offense is clicking. The Als have won and easily covered the spread in their last two games while scoring a combined 71 points. The defense isn’t much better than Hamilton’s though, allowing 30.4 points per game. This game could come down to who gets the ball last.

BETTING NOTES:
Montreal is 1-7 against the spread in its last eight home games
The Tiger-Cats are 6-1 in their last seven games against a team with a winning record
The Tiger-Cats are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven meetings

BCLions (5-2) @ Winnipeg (2-5)-- Bombers (+7.5) opened season with 33-16 loss in Vancouver, when they were outgained 358-204; after an 0-4 start, Bombers won two of last three games at home, but four of their five losses are by 10+ points. BC won its last three games, allowing 8-9-5 points; they're 2-1 on road and only one of their five wins is by less than 10 points. Lions had one takeaway (-6) in first four games, but have nine (+9) in last three- they had 125 rushing yards in first meeting with Bombers. Last five British Columbia games all stayed under the total.

Calgary (3-4) @ Saskatchewan (3-4)-- Roughriders were 3-0, then lost 41-38 in OT at Calgary in Week 4, and haven't won since, getting outscored 90-50 in second half of those games- they're 2-1 at home, with only loss by point to Hamilton. Riders were +4 in turnovers in 3-0 start, but are -8 since, with no takeaways at all in their last three games. Underdogs covered six of seven Calgary games; Stampeders lost two of three on road, but covered both tries as underdog. Last three Calgary games stayed under total; three of last four Saskatchewan games went over the total.

Edmonton is 4-1 when they allow 20 or less points, 0-2 when they allow more- they're 1-2 on road, with losses by 1-16 points. CFL

Week 9

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Canadian Bacon: B.C. Lions at Winnipeg Blue Bombers
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

British Columbia at Winnipeg Blue Bombers (+5.5, 49)

THE MATCHUP:
The Lions beat the Blue Bombers 33-16 in the first game of the season and easily covered the 8-point spread. B.C. now comes in on a three-game winning streak while Winnipeg has been just plain streaky lately.

THE LINE: The way B.C. has been playing, don't be surprised if this line moves up from 5.5 points as game time approaches. The total has dropped a point to 49, which means bettors have noticed the way the Lions' defense is performing.

B.C.: The Lions offense is fun to watch but it's the defense that has stolen the show lately. The D has now gone over 180 minutes without allowing a touchdown - the main reason B.C. has won and covered in its last three games. The Lions have also played under the total in their past five games. The team leads the league with +8 turnover margin and intercepted Saskatchewan three times last week. Meanwhile, the offense is averaging over 400 yards a game.

WINNIPEG: It's a little disturbing just how bad the Bombers defense has gotten compared to last year's 'Swaggerville' performance. Their numbers are pretty close to Hamilton's - the worst defensive team in the league - with 437 yards against per game. They have the most giveaways of any team with 20 this season, a terrible number heading in against a team like B.C. There may be some hope on offense suddenly, though. QB Joey Elliott earned CFL player of the week honors in his first CFL start last week.

BETTING NOTES:
Under is 10-1 in Lions last 11 road games.
Under is 12-3 in the last 15 meetings.
Blue Bombers are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games as a home underdog of 3.5-10.0.
Blue Bombers are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win.
Blue Bombers are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win.

Week 9

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CFL preview: Week 9 weekend breakdowns
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Calgary Stampeders at Saskatchewan Roughriders (-3.5, 53)

It's a roller coaster season for the Roughriders, who won their first three games to start the year and have now lost their last four. Sasky failed to cover the last three of those. QB Darian Durant needs to limit his interceptions - all seven of 'em have come during the losing streak.

Calgary has won the last four meetings in this series and covered four of those spreads. The Stamps' last three games have played under the total though as they struggle to generate offense. Penalties have hurt them at different times and QB Kevin Glenn is averaging just over 200 yards passing per game - a low number for the Canadian game.

Edmonton Eskimos at Toronto Argonauts (-3.5, 53)

This is the second meeting between these two teams, who traded quarterbacks in the offseason. So far, Edmonton got the worst of the deal with Steven Jyles, who is the lowest passing QB of any passer with seven starts under his belt. He's nursing a toe injury this week and his favorite target, Fred Stamps, is hurting also.

The Argos defense will be put to the test against running back Cory Boyd, who was unceremoniously dumped by the Argos about 10 days ago despite having a strong season so far. The defense ranks second in yards against in the CFL, but Boyd said this week he knows how to run on them. Argos QB Ricky Ray has to take a little comfort in the fact the Als ripped apart a banged up Eskies defense last week.

CFL Betting Notes - Week 10

August 29, 2012

The CFL regular season reaches the halfway point of its 18-game regular season with the defending champion British Columbia Lions holding a one-game edge in the West Division after squeaking by Winnipeg 20-17 as 6 ½-point home favorites last Friday night. They will face Montreal this week in the first game of a home-and-home series in what could very end-up being an early preview of this season's Grey Cup. The Alouettes are coming off a 31-39 victory over Hamilton as four-point home favorites to open-up a one game lead in the East.

In other action from Week 9, Last Saturday Calgary knocked off Saskatchewan 17-10 as a five-point road underdog and Edmonton cruised past Toronto 26-17 this past Monday night as a three-point road dog.

The following is brief preview of this week's CFL games along with the opening point spread and 'over/under' lines as provided by 5Dimes.

Friday, August 31

British Columbia Lions vs. Montreal Alouettes (-1) Total: 52 ½

The Lions' 6-2 SU record is tops in the CFL, but they are just 4-4 ATS overall and 2-2 ATS on the road. The total has stayed 'under' in their last six games. Montreal is 5-3 SU overall but just 3-5 ATS and 1-3 ATS at home. The total has gone 'over' in five of its last seven games. The total has gone 'over' in seven of the last nine meetings in Montreal.

Sunday, Sept. 2

Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders (-5) Total: 51

It has been a rough ride for the Roughriders with five straight losses after a 3-0 SU start. They are 4-4 ATS and the total has gone 4-4 as well.

Edmonton Eskimos vs. Calgary Stampeders (-3) Total: 46 ½

The Eskimos are just one game back in the West with an overall record of 5-3 SU. They are also 5-3 ATS and the total has gone 3-4-1 this season. Calgary is 4-4 both SU and ATS overall, but 1-3 ATS at home this season. The total has stayed 'under' in five of its first eight games.

Edmonton is 1-4 ATS in its last five games following a SU win. The total has stayed 'under' in 10 of its last 14 games in the division. The Stampeders are 0-4-1 ATS in their last five games following a SU win and the total has stayed 'under' in seven of their last 10 games against the West. The Eskimos have won three of the last four meetings both SU and ATS and the total has stayed 'under' in six of the last eight contests played in Calgary.

Week 10

Winnipeg (2-6) @ Saskatchewan (3-5)—Bombers fired their coach this week, after 20-17 home loss to BCLions gave them 2-2 mark on 4-game homestand that followed 0-4 road swing to start season. Winnipeg recovered seven opponent fumbles in last two games (+6 in turnovers) but they’ve been outscored 39-10 in first half of last three games, and have yet to lead at halftime this season. Saskatchewan lost five games in row, with four of five losses by 8 or less points, after a 3-0 start; they’re -10 in turnovers (with no takeaways) in last four games. Underdogs covered three of their four home games. Three of four Rider home games stayed under the total.

Toronto (4-4) @ Hamilton (3-5)—Argonauts (+5) lost 36-27 here back in Week 3, despite running ball for 170 yards and outgaining TiCats by 109 yards. TiCats allowed 24+ points in all eight games; they won only two games when they held opponent under 31. Road team won Toronto’s last four games, with Argos upsetting Montreal/Calgary in last two road skirmishes. Hamilton lost last three games, despite leading all three at half; they were outscored 72-27 in second half of those games. TiCats are 2-3 as a favorite. Week 10

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Canadian Bacon: This weekend's CFL preview
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Three regional rivalries are set for Sunday and Monday in the CFL. Here’s a few tidbits on the three matchups:

Sunday

Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Saskatchewan Roughriders (-6.5, 49)

Winnipeg’s 20-17 loss to the Lions last week cost head coach Paul LaPolice his job. Now the Bombers (2-6) have to find a way to win in Regina. Winnipeg has dropped its last seven games at Mosaic Stadium.

Saskatchewan is also struggling. The Riders (3-5) are coming off a 17-10 loss to the Stampeders and have dropped five straight games after opening the season with three consecutive victories.

TRENDS AND NOTES

*Blue Bombers are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
*Roughriders are 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall.
*Under is 7-1 in Roughriders last eight home games.
*Bombers have the worst pass defense (323.2 YPG) in the league.
*Riders boast the second-best running attack (106.8 YPG) in the league.

Monday

Toronto Argonauts at Hamilton Tiger-Cats (-3.5, 53.5)

Toronto is coming off a disappointing 27-17 home loss to Edmonton. The Argonauts (4-4) continue to struggle with Ricky Ray under center and are having a tough time putting points up on the board (2-6-0 O/U) this season.

Hamilton dropped a close 31-29 decision to Montreal last week and has lost three straight. The Tiger-Cats (3-5) have the top offense in the CFL, scoring an average of 29.5 points per game (6-2-0 O/U).

TRENDS AND NOTES

*Argonauts are 1-5 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
*Under is 5-0 in Argonauts last five games overall.
*Tiger-Cats are 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a S.U. loss.
*Argos boast the top-ranked pass defense in the league, holding opponents to an average of 233.8 YPG.

Edmonton Eskimos at Calgary Stampeders (-3.5, 48.5)

Edmonton prevailed 26-17 over Toronto last week. The ground game continues to be the focus for the Eskimos (5-3) with new running back Cory Boyd now in the fold. Edmonton has the league’s worst passing attack at 239.5 YPG.

Calgary is also coming off a win last week, downing the Roughriders, 17-10. The Stampeders (4-4) also love to run the ball with their feature back Jon Cornish. The Calgary passing attack is sputtering with Kevin Glenn at the helm, so expect an old-fashioned ground war.

TRENDS AND NOTES

*Under is 4-0 in Calgary’s last four games overall.
*Eskimos are 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a S.U. win.
*Under is 3-0-1 in Eskimos’ last five road games.
