The Church has a lot of issues that it doesn't know how to address. Most Christians are conservative republicans that can't stand the fact that some less fortunate people get welfare. "Get a fucking job, you low life piece of shit. Why should I have to pay for your food stamps, you uneducated, lazy mooch." That's the attitude of many Christians. They don't spend one minute of their life trying to put themselves in other's shoes.

I'll admit that I don't do it nearly enough. I went to see Slumdog Millionaire the other night, and was moved seeing the poverty of India. It's a world that is so very real today, and yet, I don't think about it very often. I'm so Americanized and so secluded from the realities of life outside of suburban America. I felt really convicted while watching it. It was like a wakeup call to my conscience.

American Christianity has missed the boat. As I try to progress in my walk with God, I don't have any answers at the moment. I just know that the sooner we stop thinking about 401K's, the economy, the "poor us" mentality, the chasing after the world and money......the better off we'll be. Our faith has to be in Christ alone. This world is not our home. It is ruled by Satan. It is fleeting, and has nothing to offer. If the US became a third world country, it might turn out better for us spiritually.

It is sad that many Christians today don't comb through the life of Jesus as a reminder of how we should conduct ourselves to the rest of the world. Jesus fellowshiped in the midst of very sinful people while on earth. He showed them love, respect and compassion, much to the chagrin of the Pharisees. Jesus loved them but never condoned their sin. And that is something important to remember! If we as Christians aren't a reflection of Him, then why are we here?

Well said, it's very sad but true.

ILLINI offers: This is a very tough subject, and one that is very difficult to answer.

B: For some folks, yes that's true. For others, not so much.

I: On one hand, it's rather obvious that homosexuality is not natural.

B: To some folks, yes that's true. For others of us, not so.

I: On the other hand, I can't ignore the Bible, if I'm a Christian.

B: As illustrated by numerous sincere and honest replies within this very thread (among the teasing and joshing), it's certainly possible for many Christians to "ignore" the portions of the Holy Bible which we do not perceive to be interpreted literally.

Episcopilians, Unity members and most Catholic congregations do not disqualify homosexuals from active membership and participation.

Certainly many more fundamentalist Christian congregations do shun and disqualify homosexuals from being on equal footing with God.

The discerning homosexual who wishes to be a practicing Christian would be wise to discern the differences between sects.

Most Christians are conservative republicans .....

Absolutely not so

Christians in the USA cross the gamut of political thought.

I don't go to church, and really wouldn't advise anyone to seek approval from any congregation.

In terms of the homosexual issue, I'm guess I'm much more of a fundamentalist than you.......I guess that's what you would call it.

This is a very tough subject, and one that is very difficult to answer. On one hand, it's rather obvious that homosexuality is not natural. Female and male were made for each other, that's plain for anyone to see. And the Bible is pretty clear, for those of us that believe the Bible.

At the same time, most of us have never had a homosexual thought. We aren't tempted by it and never will be. I couldn't be gay if even if I wanted to, and I'm sure most people are just like me in that regard. So they have something that most of us don't have. I've worked with some gay people and gotten to know them as people, not as "gays." My boss is a flaming gay, and is a great guy. He doesn't flaunt his homosexuality, and as far as I know, has never discussed it with anyone at work. But you meet him, and in 5 seconds, you know. He's different.

How can I possibly know what's like to be him? I have differing viewpoints, and I don't know where I stand on this issue. I am a Christian, and I don't like how the large majority of the Church uses the homosexuality issue as a means to judge people, and feel justified in doing so, because after all, "we're just repeating what the Bible says." I don't like it one bit. So many people are venemous in their desire to judge other people, and this way, they can do it, and feel it's right to hate those people. They would never say it, but it's hate. For most, that is.

I am a very compassionate person, and this issue is very tough for someone that is a Bible believing Christian. I have tried to put myself in their shoes. How would I feel if someone told me that being gay was right, and I had to be gay to be accepted by God? I'd tell them to get lost, and wouldn't ever give another thought to their lunacy. That's what it must be like for homosexuals.

On the other hand, I can't ignore the Bible, if I'm a Christian. So it's a very tough subject.

Well said (<)<
