CFL Betting Notes - Week 17

October 14, 2014

Toronto outlasted Hamilton 34-33 as a four-point home favorite to kickoff Week 16 in the CFL with the total going OVER the 52-point closing line, but lopsided blowouts were the story in the rest of the games.

British Columbia rolled to a 41-3 victory over Ottawa this past Saturday as a 10-point home favorite with the total just staying UNDER the 45-point betting line.

The Canadian Thanksgiving Holiday featured two Monday games starting with Montreal’s 40-9 rout of Saskatchewan as a three-point favorite at home. The total in that contest went OVER the 46-point line. Monday’s other game saw Edmonton roll to a 41-9 victory against Winnipeg as a nine-point home favorite. The total in that game stayed just UNDER the 50 ½-point closing line.

Friday, Oct. 17

Ottawa (2-12 SU, 5-9 ATS) at Hamilton (6-8 SU, 6-8 ATS)

Point-spread: Hamilton -13
Total: 45

Game Overview

Ottawa’s 42-point outburst in a Week 15 victory against Winnipeg was apparently just an illusion as last week’s three points against BC was the sixth time the RedBlacks failed to score more than 10 points in their last eight games. They are still 3-2 against the spread in their last five games.

The Tiger-Cats now find themselves in a three-way tie with Montreal and Toronto for first place in the East Division race after their four-game straight-up winning streak was snapped. Quarterback Zach Collaros continues to light things up with 302 yards passing and 65 yards on the ground in last week’s loss to the Argonauts.

Betting Trends

Hamilton won the first meeting this season 33-23 as a seven-point home favorite. The total in that game went OVER the 47-point closing line. Ottawa is 1-6 ATS this season on the road, but Hamilton is just 2-5 ATS as a favorite.

Saturday, Oct. 18

Montreal (6-8 SU, 7-7 ATS) at Toronto (6-8 SU, 6-8 ATS)

Point-spread: Toronto -4
Total: 52

Game Overview

The Alouettes extended their current winning streak to three games both SU and ATS with last week’s victory and they are now 5-1 both ways in their last six games. The once anemic Montreal offense has averaged 26.7 points per game during this six-game run. Jonathan Crompton threw for 225 yards and three touchdowns in the win over the Roughriders.

Toronto appears poised to make a run at a second-straight East title with three-straight wins as well. This run followed a four-game SU skid and over the course of the seven games the Argonauts have also gone 3-4 ATS. The total has gone OVER in their last four games with the offense putting-up at least 33 points in each of those outings.

Betting Trends

Montreal is 2-4 ATS in its last six games against Toronto overall, but it remains a perfect 5-0 ATS in its last five road games against the Argonauts. The total has stayed UNDER in nine of the last 10 meetings.

Calgary (12-2 SU, 10-4 ATS) at Winnipeg (6-9 SU, 7-8 ATS)

Point-spread: Calgary -9
Total: 49

Game Overview

Calgary was able to clinch a playoff spot while on a bye this week, but it realizes a win this Saturday would go a long way towards clinching the West Division title. The Stampeders remain the most consistent team in the CFL with an offense that is averaging 28 points a game complementing a defense that is ranked first in the league in average points allowed (18.8).

The Blue Bombers are in a complete nose dive with a SU six-game losing streak and a costly 1-5 mark ATS during this slide. Their defense has now allowed 30 points or more in four of those losses and the offense has all but ground to a halt with an average of just 12.3 points over their last four games.

Betting Trends

The Stampeders have won the last five meetings SU, but it is just 2-5-1 ATS in its last eight games played in Winnipeg. The total has gone OVER in five of the last six meetings at Investors Group Field.

Sunday, Oct. 19

Edmonton (10-5 SU, 10-5 ATS) at Saskatchewan (9-6 SU, 6-9 ATS)

Point-spread: Edmonton -3 ½
Total: 48 ½

Game Overview

Edmonton assured itself a spot in the postseason with last week’s win, but it still has its sights set on the West Division title after posting three SU wins in its last five games. Anyone betting on the Eskimos over the past month or so have been rewarded with a 5-0 mark ATS. Slotback Adarius Bowman is having a season for the ages with 101 receptions for 1,241 yards and six touchdowns.

The loss of quarterback Darian Durant continues to plague the Roughriders, who have now dropped four of their last five games SU. Despite this slide, they have also clinched a playoff spot as a potential crossover team given the poor overall records in the East. Saskatchewan has been a drain on the bankroll during this slide with a 0-5 record ATS.

Betting Trends

The Eskimos have lost 13 of its last 18 road games SU against Saskatchewan in this West Division rivalry, but they have covered ATS in six of the last seven meetings overall. The total has gone OVER in 11 of their last 15 road games against the Roughriders.

CFL Betting Recap - Week 17

October 20, 2014

League Betting Notes

-- Favorites went 3-1 straight up in Week 17

-- Underdogs went 2-1-1 ATS in Week 17

-- Road teams posted a 3-1 SU record in Week 17

-- Road teams posted a 3-0-1 ATS record in Week 17

-- The under went 3-1 in Week 17

Team Betting Notes

-- Calgary (13-2) continues to roll right along. They have won seven of their eight road games, and they are 7-1 ATS away from home.

-- Hamilton (7-8) started the season with a 1-6 SU and 3-4 ATS through the first seven games, but they're 6-2 SU over the past eight games. The 'under has also been a frequent happening for the TiCats, going 5-1 over the past six games.

-- While Toronto (6-9) has won three of the past four games, but they have failed to cover in three straight after their 20-12 setback to Montreal (7-8).

-- The Alouettes have caught fire in the second half of the season. After starting out a dismal 1-7 SU/2-6 ATS in the first eight games, Montreal is 6-1 SU/ATS over the past seven games to vault into first place in the East. Defense has been a huge part of their success, allowing just 43 total points over the past four games, with the 'under' cashing in three of those outings.

-- Edmonton (11-5) can't catch Calgary in the West Division, but they are going to the playoffs. The Eskimos have ripped off six consecutive covers, too.

-- Ottawa (2-13) has struggled to pick up victories and post points, but their defense has kept them in games. While Ottawa has scored 10 or fewer points in seven of the past nine games, but they have given up 20 or fewer in five of the past seven. There is still betting value with the RedBlacks, who are 4-2 ATS over the past six games, and the 'under' is 7-2 over the past nine.

-- Stop if you've heard this before...another week, another loss for Winnipeg (6-10). They started out 5-1 SU/ATS over the first six games, but they're now 1-9 SU and they have failed to cover each of their past six.

CFL Betting Notes - Week 19

October 28, 2014

With just two weeks remaining in the CFL regular season, four of the six spots for this year’s Grey Cup Playoffs have been claimed and they all belong to teams in the West Division.

Montreal helped its cause to lock-up a spot in the East Division with last Friday’s 23-17 victory against Ottawa in a game that ended as a PUSH with the Alouettes favored by six points on the road. The total stayed UNDER the closing 43-point line. Friday’s other game ended with Calgary rolling over Saskatchewan 40-27 as a 10 ½-point home favorite to notch its 14th straight-up win of the year. The total in that contest went OVER the 48-point closing line.

This past Saturday’s CFL double-header started with Toronto securing a 26-24 victory against Hamilton in that huge East Division clash. The Argonauts could not cover the three points at home and the total stayed just UNDER the 51 ½-point line. Week 18 closed things out with British Columbia earning a playoff berth with a 28-23 victory over Winnipeg as a 4 ½-point road favorite. The total this time around went OVER the closing 45 ½-point line.

Friday, Oct. 31

Hamilton (7-9 SU, 7-9 ATS at Ottawa (2-14 SU, 6-9-1 ATS)

Point-spread: Hamilton -7 ½
Total: 44 ½

Game Overview

Hamilton is faced with a must-win situation this Friday night to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot in the East. It comes into this game 5-2 SU in its last seven games with a 4-3 record ATS. Last week against Toronto, Tiger-Cats quarterback Zach Collaros threw for 335 yards and three touchdowns in the losing cause, but the offense managed to gain just 12 yards on the ground.

The RedBlacks know that the end is finally in sight for their long and painful inaugural season in the CFL. While they only have two SU wins on the year, you have to give credit to Ottawa for remaining competitive down the stretch to post a 4-2-1 record ATS in their last seven games. Veteran quarterback Henry Burris is ranked fourth in the CFL this season in passing yards with 3.412.

Betting Trends

Hamilton won both of the previous meetings this season SU, but the series is split 1-1 ATS after the RedBlacks covered as 12-point road underdogs in a 16-6 loss on Oct. 17. The total has also been split 1-1.

Saturday, Nov. 1

Winnipeg (6-11 SU, 7-9-1 ATS) at Calgary (14-2 SU, 11-4-1 ATS)

Point-spread: Calgary -11
Total: 48

Game Overview

The Blue Bombers have fallen off the map over the second half of the season with an eight-game SU losing streak and a costly 0-6-1 record ATS in their last seven games. Mercifully for this team, this will be its last game of the season with a bye in Week 20. Winnipeg has allowed an average of 27.5 points a game, which is ranked dead-last in the CFL.

The big question for this game is will Calgary start resting players this week with nothing left to gain heading into the playoffs? Bo Levi Mitchell got the start last Friday and went on to complete 21-of-31 attempts for 231 yards and a score in a dramatic come-from-behind win. Running back Jon Cornish did not play after torching Winnipeg for 160 yards on the ground in a 33-23 win in Week 17.

Betting Trends

Calgary has won the last five meetings at home SU and it is 8-2-1 ATS in its last 11 games at home against Winnipeg. The total has stayed UNDER in four of the last six meetings at McMahon Stadium.

British Columbia (9-7 SU, 9-7 ATS) at Edmonton (11-5 SU, 11-5 ATS)

Point-spread: Edmonton -5
Total: 49

Game Overview

With last week’s win both SU and ATS, the Lions have covered against the spread in their last three outings and the total has stayed UNDER in three of their last four games. Coming into this potential preview of a first round pairing in the West Division playoffs, BC’s defense is ranked first in the CFL in points allowed (18.4). This unit has been able to turn things up a notch or two by holding teams to just 16.1 points over its last seven games

The Eskimos are coming off a bye after posting a 24-19 win over Saskatchewan as 4.5-point road favorites in Week 17. They are now 4-2 SU and a profitable 6-0 ATS in their last six games. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five outings. Edmonton’s defense is also one of the best in the league. This unit is currently tied with Calgary with a points-allowed average of 19.6 a game.

Betting Trends

The Lions are 5-1 SU the last six meetings overall and on the road against Edmonton they have gone 7-2 SU (6-3 ATS) in the last nine meetings. The total has stayed UNDER in five of the last six games played in Edmonton.

Sunday, Nov. 2

Toronto (7-9 SU, 6-10 ATS) at Montreal (8-8 SU, 8-7-1 ATS)

Point-spread: Montreal -2 ½
Total: 50 ½

Game Overview

Toronto’s late season push towards the playoffs has resulted in SU wins in four of its last five games, but the lone loss was a 20-12 setback to Montreal in Week 17 as a five-point home favorite. This was one of its in one lowest scoring outputs this year with a potent offensive attack that is averaging 25.8 points a game behind quarterback Ricky Ray. He leads the CFL in both total passing yards (4,386) and touchdown throws (28).

Montreal crawled out of the gate this season to a 1-7 SU start, but last week’s 23-17 win over Ottawa as a six-point road favorite extended its late-season winning streak to five games SU. The game against the RedBlacks ended as a PUSH to leave the Alouettes with a profitable 4-0-1 record ATS during their recent run. One of the main reasons for the team’s turnaround on offense has been the play of quarterback Jonathan Crompton. The offense has averaged 25.8 points a game over its last five outings with him at the helm. You also have to give a ton of credit to a defense that has held teams to an average of just 12 points a game during this run.

Betting Trends

Montreal has won 17 of the last 24 meetings SU and it has gone 16-8 ATS in this same stretch of games against Toronto. The total has stayed UNDER in six of the last seven games played in Montreal.

Ricky Ray out for Argonauts against Ottawa

The Toronto Argonauts have been dealt a huge blow to their playoff hopes as Ricky Ray will not play for the team against the Ottawa Redblacks Friday.

Ray is leading the league in both passing yards (4595) and passing touchdowns (28). The Argos and Redblacks have met once this season with Toronto dropping the game by one point with Ray throwing two interceptions compared to one touchdown.

Trevor Harris, who has thrown a combined 58 passes in his CFL career, will get the strat for the Argos.

CFL Betting Recap - Week 19

November 3, 2014

League Betting Notes

-- Favorites went 3-1 (pending BC/EDM, TOR/MON) straight up in Week 19

-- Favorites went 3-1 ATS in Week 19

-- Home/road teams posted a 2-2 SU record in Week 19

-- Home/road teams posted a 2-2 ATS record in Week 19

-- The 'Under' went 3-1 in Week 19

Team Betting Notes

-- Hamilton (8-9) took care of Ottawa (2-15) by a 34-25 win for another road cover. The TiCats are 2-2 SU in their past four road games, but they have covered four in a row away from home.

-- The RedBlacks have hit the wall a bit, as they have dropped four in a row. While the offense has picked up a bit, the defense has allowed 28.5 points per game over the past four. The 'under' has still cashed in three of the past four, but that's because Ottawa's offense has managed an average of just 12.8 points per game during the span.

-- Winnipeg (7-11) wrapped up its season with a stunning win at Calgary (14-3), although the Stamps were resting with the top seed in the playoffs secured. The Blue Bombers had dropped eight in a row leading up to the finale.

-- Montreal (9-8) won for the sixth consecutive game, topping Toronto (7-10) by a 17-14 score. The Alouettes have posted a 5-0-1 ATS mark during their six-game win streak. The 'under' has hit in five of the six games during the stretch.

-- Edmonton (12-5) won its third straight game with a 37-3 demolition of the BC Lions (9-8). More importantly, the Esks have covered seven in a row heading into next week's season finale against Saskatchewan (9-8).

-- The 'under' hit in three of the four games in Week 19, and the under has hit in 10 of the past 16 games in the past month.

CFL Betting Notes - Week 20

November 4, 2014

We have reached the final week of the 2014 CFL regular season and a few of last week’s results have set the stage for a fantastic finish that will fill in any of the remaining pieces of the postseason puzzle.

Hamilton stayed in the playoff hunt in the East with a 34-25 victory over Ottawa last Friday night as a seven-point road favorite. The total in that game went OVER the 43 ½-point closing line. In a case of too little, too late Winnipeg ended its season on a high note with a stunning 18-13 victory against Calgary on Saturday as a 10-point road underdog with the total staying UNDER the 50 ½-point closing line.

Saturday’s other game was a 37-3 victory by Edmonton as a 5 ½-point home favorite against British Columbia. The total stayed UNDER in that contest against a closing line of 48. Montreal earned a spot in the Grey Cup Playoffs by knocking-off East rival Toronto 17-14 on Sunday as a slight 1 ½-point home favorite to close things out in Week 19. The total in that game stayed UNDER the 50-point closing line.

Friday, Nov. 7

Ottawa (2-15 SU, 6-10-1 ATS) at Toronto (7-10 SU, 6-11 ATS)

Point-spread: OFF
Total: OFF

Game Overview

Ottawa continues to play for pride in its inaugural season in the CFL as the RedBlacks and it would love nothing more than to squash its division rival’s slim playoff hopes with a straight-up win on Friday night. While they did fail to cover their last time out, the RedBlacks have been a tough out down the stretch with a 4-3-1 record ATS in their last eight games.

Toronto not only lost a game it desperately needed to win, it may have also lost its quarterback Ricky Ray for the season finale after getting injured in last week’s contest. This would be a tremendous loss after he led the CFL this season by a wide margin in both total passing yards (4,595) and touchdown throws (28).

Betting Trends

One of Ottawa’s two SU wins this season came against Toronto in an 18-17 victory in Week 3 as a one-point home underdog. The total in that game stayed UNDER the closing 52-point line. The Argonauts are just 1-6 ATS as favorites this season.

Calgary (14-3 SU, 11-5-1 ATS) at British Columbia (9-8 SU, 9-8 ATS)

Point-spread: BC -1 ½
Total: 46

Game Overview

You cannot put all that much weight on last week’s loss to Winnipeg considering that the Stampeders had already locked-up the top spot in the West Division a few weeks back. They will probably approach this game in the same cautious fashion to keep everyone as healthy as possible for a run to this year’s Grey Cup title.

At the other end of the spectrum there should be some serious concern in BC after last week’s dismal performance against a team it could very well face in the opening round of the West Division Playoffs. Kevin Glenn and John Beck combined for a total of just 95 yards passing in the loss to Edmonton. The Lions could not run the ball either with a total of 66 yards on the ground.

Betting Trends

The Stampeders have won 17 of the last 25 meetings SU, yet they are just 1-4 SU in their last five trips to BC Place. The total has stayed UNDER in 11 of their last 14 road games and it has stayed UNDER in seven of the Lions’ last nine games at home.

Saturday, Nov. 8

Montreal (9-8 SU, 9-7-1 ATS) at Hamilton (8-9 SU, 8-9 ATS)

Point-spread: Hamilton -3
Total: 45 ½

Game Overview

Montreal needs this win to secure a first-round bye as East Division champs and it is hard to see the Alouettes coming up short after posting an 8-1 SU record in their last nine games with a profitable 7-1-1 record ATS. The total has now stayed UNDER in five of their last six games behind a defense that has not allowed more than 17 points in any of those contests.

The Tiger-Cats can still win the East with a win on Saturday, or they can miss the playoffs altogether with a loss combined with a Toronto win. They have also staged an impressive run during the second half of the season with six SU wins in their last eight games and a 5-3 record ATS. The total went OVER against Ottawa last week after staying UNDER in eight of Hamilton’s previous 10 games.

Betting Trends

Montreal has lost four of its last six games against Hamilton SU overall and it is 0-5 SU in its last five road games against the Tiger-Cats. However, the Alouettes have managed to cover in the last five meetings and the total has gone OVER in five of the last seven games played in Hamilton.

Edmonton (12-5 SU, 12-5 ATS) at Saskatchewan (9-8 SU, 6-11 ATS)

Point-spread: OFF
Total: OFF

Game Overview

Edmonton is another team that is in position to rest some starters this week after wrapping up home field advantage for the opening round of the playoffs with last week’s win. The Eskimos have been the most profitable team to wager on in the CFL going back to mid-September with a perfect 7-0 record ATS. They went 5-2 SU during this seven-game run and the total stayed UNDER in five of their last six games.

The Roughriders are coming off a bye in what has been an extremely rough ride down the stretch. They have just one SU victory in their last seven games and they have failed to cover ATS in all seven contests. The total has gone OVER in three of their last four games. Amazingly enough, Saskatchewan has long since secured a spot in the postseason and it can still end-up as the No. 3 team in the East with a win and a BC loss.

Betting Trends

Edmonton is 8-4 SU in the last 12 meetings and it has covered ATS in the last five games between the two. The total in this series has gone OVER in 11 of the last 16 games played in Saskatchewan.

CFL Betting Notes - Semifinals

November 11, 2014

The CFL closed things out with a bang in Week 20 of the regular season to set-up some very interesting matchups in this Sunday’s opening round of the 2014 Grey Cup Playoffs.

Last Friday, Toronto did its part by defeating Ottawa 23-5 as a 6 ½-point home favorite with the total staying UNDER the 45 ½-point line, but Hamilton’s 29-15 victory over Montreal the following day as a 3 ½-point home favorite not only knocked the Argonauts out of the playoffs, it sealed the East Division title and first round bye for the Tiger-Cats. The total in that game stayed UNDER the closing 44-point line.

In the first of two final regular season games in the West Division, Calgary hammered British Columbia 33-16 as a 1 ½-point road underdog with the total going OVER the 49-point line. This past Saturday, Saskatchewan secured the third seed in the West with a 24-17 victory against Edmonton as a 1 ½-point home favorite. The total stayed UNDER the 41-point closing line in that contest.

Sunday, Nov. 16

British Columbia (9-9 SU, 9-9 ATS) at Montreal (9-9 SU, 9-8-1 ATS)

Point-spread: Montreal -2 ½
Total: 45

Game Overview

The Lions enter the playoffs as a cross-over team from the West Division. They will have to dig deep for some momentum in this game after stumbling down the stretch to a 2-5 straight-up record in their last seven games. BC was only slight better against the spread at 3-4 and the total stayed UNDER in four of its last six games.

Kevin Glenn is expected to get the start for the Lions at quarterback, but Travis Lulay has been placed on the active roster for Sunday’s game. While Glenn has certainly been able to rack-up the passing yards this season with 3,918, which is the second-highest total in the league, he has also tossed a CFL-high 17 interceptions. This includes two in this past Friday’s loss to Calgary.

Montreal’s strong performance down the stretch ended on a bitter note in last week’s loss to Hamilton as it cost the team the East title as well as a crucial first round bye in the playoffs. None the less, the Alouettes finished the regular season with a 6-1 SU record in their last seven games and a highly profitable 5-1-1 mark ATS. The total stayed UNDER in six of their final seven games.

Much of Montreal’s second half success could be attributed to the play of Jonathan Crompton as the team’s starting quarterback, but you also have to give a ton of credit to a defense that did not allow more than 17 points a game in the team’s recent six-game winning streak.

Betting Trends

The Lions have covered ATS in 18 of their last 25 games against Montreal, but they have lost eight of their last nine road games in this matchup SU. The total has gone OVER in five of the last six meetings in Montreal.

These two split the season series with the home team winning both SU and ATS. The total stayed UNDER in both games.

Saskatchewan (10-8 SU, 7-11 ATS) at Edmonton (12-6 SU, 12-6ATS)

Point-spread: Edmonton OFF
Total: OFF

Game Overview

Saskatchewan snapped a five-game SU losing streak with last week’s victory over the Eskimos and it was the first time it covered ATS in its last eight games. It was just the second time the total stayed UNDER in its last five games. The Roughriders’ slide can be directly attributed to the loss of starting quarterback Darian Durant. With him under center, they had jumped-out to a 8-2 SU start this season.

In his place, Saskatchewan has turned to Tino Sunseri as well as Kerry Joseph to lead this offense, but no matter who has lined-up in Durant’s place, the results have been mediocre at best. Durant is actually listed as questionable for Sunday’s game, but the most encouraging thing about this past Saturday’s win was the 194 yards the Roughriders gained on the ground in that game.

The Eskimos have clearly been the second-best team in the CFL this season behind Calgary. They also started fast with a 7-1 SU record in their first eight games and they won the games they needed to down the stretch with a 5-3 SU record in their last eight contests. Bettors also prospered during this run with a 7-1 record ATS in their last eight games. The total has stayed UNDER in six of their last seven games.

Injury concerns at the quarterback position continue to plague Edmonton and while Matt Nichols was able to go in last week’s game, Mike Reilly remains questionable for this Sunday with a lingering foot injury. Reilly threw for 3,327 yards and 16 touchdowns while completing 64.6 percent of his throws, while Nichols added another 1,014 yards and four scores behind a slightly lower completion percentage of 62.3.

Betting Trends

The Eskimos have won 18 of their last 23 home games SU against the Roughriders and they are 4-1 ATS at home in the last five meetings. The total has gone OVER in four of the last five meetings in Edmonton.

These two West Division rivals met three times this season with the Eskimos holding a 2-1 edge both SU and ATS. The total stayed UNDER in all three games.

Alouettes holding as field goal faves in East semi

The Montreal Alouettes opened as 3-point home favorites at most shops about one week ago, and that line has held firm with kickoff approaching in the East semifinal Sunday.

The Als host the BC Lions with the winner to face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The two teams squared off twice during the regular season with the Als covering as 3-point home dogs (Als 24, Lions 9) on July 4, and the Lions covering as 7-point home faves (Lions 41, Als 5) on July 19.

The total has also held steady as oddsmakers opened with a 45 on the board, the number currently being dealt.

CFL Betting Notes - Finals

November 18, 2014

The CFL 2014 Grey Cup Playoffs got underway this past Sunday with the Division Semifinals. In the East, Montreal made a bold statement that it is ready for a title run with a 50-17 pasting of British Columbia as a three-point home favorite. The Alouettes took the total OVER on their own with a closing line of 44 ½.

It was not nearly as easy, but Edmonton also covered as a 7 ½-point home favorite in the West with an 18-10 victory against Saskatchewan in Sunday’s other division semifinal game. The total in that one stayed well UNDER the 45-point closing line.

Sunday, Nov. 23

Montreal Alouettes (10-9 SU, 10-8-1 ATS) at Hamilton Tiger-Cats (9-9 SU, 9-9 ATS)

Point-spread: Hamilton -3 ½
Total: 47

Game Overview

It was not all that long ago when Montreal had some major struggles finding the end zone, but that was hardly the case against the Lions its last time out. All told, six different players scored a touchdown and while quarterback Jonathan Crompton only threw for 155 yards he made everyone count by completing 66.7 percent of his 21 throws for two scores.

Montreal’s dramatic turnaround from a disastrous 1-5 start both straight-up and against the spread has resulted in a 7-1 SU record in its last eight contests with a profitable 6-1-1 record ATS. The total stayed UNDER in six of its previous seven games prior to going OVER against BC.

Hamilton is another team that overcame a slow start to make its way to a second-straight appearance in the East Division title game. The Tiger-Cats posted just one SU victory in their first seven games, but they started to turn things around in Week 12 following a 38-31 loss to Montreal as 1 ½-point road favorites. From that point on, Hamilton won seven of its next nine games while going 6-3 ATS. The total stayed UNDER in seven of those games.

The biggest win of this run came in the final week of the regular season when it beat Montreal 29-15 as a four-point home favorite. Zach Collaros was dead-on in that game; completing 20-of-28 attempts for 207 yards and a score. Nic Grigsby had a good day running the ball with 93 yards and a score on 19 carries.

Betting Trends

The Alouettes are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 East Division games and they are 5-1 ATS in their last six trips to the division finals. The total has stayed UNDER in 14 of their last 17 road games.

The Tiger-Cats are 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a SU win, but just 2-5 ATS in their last seven playoff games. The total has stayed UNDER in 17 of their last 21 games played at home.

Head-to-head in this matchup, the home team has won the last nine meetings SU and Montreal has a 5-1 edge ATS in the last six meetings. The total has stayed UNDER in four of the last five games.

Edmonton Eskimos (13-6 SU, 13-6ATS) at Calgary Stampeders (15-3 SU, 12-5-1 ATS)

Point-spread: Calgary -6 ½
Total: 48 ½

Game Overview

Edmonton has had its injury issues at quarterback down the stretch, but the return of Mike Reilly to the lineup against the Roughriders had to be a welcomed sight. He only put the ball up eight times in this past Sunday’s win, but he completed six of the passes for 53 yards. Matt Nichols started the game, but he was pulled in favor of Reilly.

The Eskimos bring some solid momentum into this game with a 4-1 record both SU and ATS in their last five contests and the total has stayed UNDER in all five games. Edmonton’s defense has really risen to the occasion during this run by holding teams to an average of just 13 points a game.

There is no doubt that Calgary did indeed stampede its way through the 2014 CFL regular season and if you throw out a meaningless loss in Week 19 once the West Division title was already in hand, it only suffered two SU losses in its first 16 games.

The Stampeders led the CFL in scoring with an average of 28.4 points a game and it rolled-up a combined 95 points in three previous victories against Edmonton this season. They covered the spread each time and the total stayed UNDER in the first two meetings this season. The potent combination of Bo Levi Mitchell throwing the ball and Jon Cornish running it has led the way all season long.

Betting Trends

The Eskimos are 5-1 ATS in their last six West Division games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games in the postseason. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last six games on the road.

The Stampeders are 7-0 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and they are 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games following an ATS win. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last six playoff games at home.

Calgary swept the three-game season series SU to extend its winning streak against its division rival to 10 games. It is also 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings and the total has stayed UNDER in four of those games.

Grey Cup Preview

November 25, 2014

CFL Grey Cup Championship Betting Preview It took a long and grueling 20 weeks of the regular season and two rounds of playoff games, but the stage has finally been set for this Sunday’s Grey Cup Championship between the East Champion Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the West’s Calgary Stampeders.

The Tiger-Cats punched their ticket to a second-straight appearance in the CFL title game with Sunday’s 40-24 romp over Montreal as three-point home favorites. The total in that game easily went OVER the 46 ½-point closing line. Calgary clinched the West Division title and a trip to British Columbia for Sunday’s title game by running all over Edmonton 43-18 as a 6.5-point home favorite in the second half of this past Sunday’s CFL Division Finals double-header. The total in that contest went OVER as well with a closing line of 48 ½.

Sunday, Nov. 30

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (10-9 SU, 10-9 ATS) vs. Calgary Stampeders (16-3 SU, 13-5-1 ATS)

Point-spread: Calgary -8
Total: 52

Game Overview

Any bettor that had the guts to stick with the Tiger-Cats after a 2-7 straight-up start in the first half of the season that yielded a 3-6 record against the spread was rewarded down the stretch with a 6-2 record both SU and ATS in their last eight games. They had to get past a surging Montreal team twice to get to this point with a Week 20 victory SU and ATS that clinched the East Division regular season title and a win last Sunday that clinched a spot in the 2014 Grey Cup.

Hamilton owes much of its current success to the vastly improved play of quarterback Zach Collaros. He had his issues taking care of the ball at times with 15 touchdown throws verse nine interceptions, but was able to come up big when his team needed it the most. This past Sunday against the Alouettes, he went a very efficient 18-for-27 for 199 yards while adding a key 19 yards on the ground on three carries. Hamilton’s leading receiver this season has been Luke Tasker with 72 catches for 937 yards and five touchdowns and Collaros was actually the team’s second leading rusher with 328 yards on 57 attempts.

Calgary got out of the gates quickly this season with a 4-0 SU start (3-1 ATS) and it never looked back with 12 more SU victories in its next 15 games. The Stampeders were clearly the class of the CFL this season behind an offense that averaged a league-high 28.4 points a game complementing a defense that held opposing teams to just 19.3 points. Even in the Stampeders’ three losses this season they were in a position to two of those games. The combined spread in the final score of those three setbacks was just 22 points with 16 of them coming in a late September loss to Montreal.

The two biggest playmakers on this team have been quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell and running back Jon Cornish. Mitchell ended the regular season ranked fifth in the CFL in total passing yards (3,389), but more importantly, he completed 63.3 percent of his 417 attempts while tossing 22 touchdowns against eight interceptions. Cornish has established himself as one of the top backs in the CFL and this season was no exception with a league-high 1,082 yards and five scores on 139 carries.

Betting Trends

The Tiger-Cats have covered ATS in their last four games following a SU win and the total has gone OVER in seven of their last 10 postseason games.

The Stampeders are 8-0 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a SU winning record, but just 2-6-1 ATS in their last 10 playoff games. The total has gone OVER in five of their last six games in the playoffs.

Head-to-head in this matchup, Calgary has won the last six games SU including both meetings this season by a combined 13 points. Hamilton has a slight 3-2 edge ATS in the last five games and the total has stayed UNDER in the last four games between the two.
