I also highly doubt Tornoto is more diverse than NY. Last time I was in Manahttan I heard 9 languages.

There are many different ways to measure diversity.

Only 9? Even the Toronto City website lists the top 15 languages in the city.

Also unless unless you're Spanish or Black chances are your ancestors came to North America after the people you are bitching about.

Diversity of race, religion and lifestyle help define and set Toronto apart from other world cities. Toronto is home to virtually all of the world's culture groups and is the city where more than 100 languages and dialects are spoken.

Between 2001 and 2005, the Toronto CMA attracted an average of 107,000 international immigrants each year, The City of Toronto welcomed two thirds (69,000). As well, 10,738 foreign students chose to study in Toronto originating from countries including South Korea, Japan, China and India. (Source: The Monitor, Fall 2005 - Citizenship and Immigration Canada)

Almost three-quarters of Torontonians aged 15 or older have direct ties to immigration. About one-half (52%) are themselves immigrants while another 22% are 2nd generation immigrants with at least one parent born outside of Canada. The remaining 26% of the Toronto population (aged 15 or older) is comprised of individuals who were born in Canada to two Canadian-born parents. (Source: Immigrants in Canada's Census Metropolitan Areas - Grant Schellenberg, Statistics Canada).

Yes, I only heard 9 because I didn't talk to all of the people in the city, I didn't easedrop on all the people in the city, and I can't decipher the differences between ukranian, russian, bulgarian, croatian, etc. etc. etc. I heard 9 different languages on the street that I could identify.

I am not bitching about anybody, I am just asking you if you notice anything between the top 5?

I was there once when I was a child and I did say that I could be wrong...

However I highly doubt Tornoto is more "diverse" than NY.

What is the ethnic diversity like in your top 5 countries?

It is not my top 5. I haven't been to Iceland, Norway or Ireland so I wouldn't be able to comment on those countries. Australia is a beautiful country though that deserves a top 5 spot.

The point I think you're trying to make is that all of the top 5 countries are white dominated countries. Canada is incredibly diverse, but yes they are still white dominated. I'll check out previous years to see if it's a trend, but I'm expecting to see the same countries near the top for the past 5 years.

2006

1. Norway
2. Iceland
3. Australia
4. Ireland
5. Sweden

6. Canada
8. USA

2002

1. Norway
2. Sweden
3. Canada
4. Belgium
5. Australia
6. USA

Who knew Norway was such a great place to live. They were the #1 ranked country for 6 years, until Iceland took the spot in '07. Canada again has always been rated higher than the United States in this decade.

It is her opinion on things. Another Canadian on the board said that he and most people he knows are completely happy with how they have it.

I'm pretty happy here, too. On the whole, I'd rather live in Canada than in the US.

It's just that .... lots of Americans talk about running to Canada to 'get off the sinking ship', so to speak ... but they don't realise we're probably going to go down, too; and that Canada is not as utopian as they think. It's an exaggeration to say that people here are 'completely happy' with how they have it.

That said, in today's climate, I'd rather be Canadian than American. No offense.

Do you trust their rankings? Do you know who does the rankings?

I'll tell you what though, Sweedish, Irish, and Australian girls are a hell of a lot hotter than American girls.

I'm curious, if you took out pot-related crimes (we don't put people in jail for smoking doobies; in that respect we're eight gazillion times better than the US) I wonder if our crime rate would actually be higher??

Dunno the overall numbers, but do know these:

1) Over 1.7million Americans arrested last year for drug crimes, with about 90% of those for possession only.

2) Of that number, almost 800,000 were for violation of marijuana laws and again about 90% were for possession only.

3) The number of marijuana arrests nationally was higher than arrests for all violent crimes combined and it's been so for over a decade now.

Of course your military can be too big.

If it's bigger than the military might of the rest of the world combined, it's too big. If it's bound to bankrupt you, it's too big. If you start wars just to justify a huge budget, it's too big. If a goodly chunk of your population get boners when Russia and Georgia go at it, it's too big. If you use your military so other countries don't have to use theirs, it's too big.

The size of your military should reflect the size of (real) threats. Yours isn't even close.

I think there's few of us that would have any argument with any part of the above post.

Is the drug war worth it?

That's a bit ambigious, but it's clear that the overall U.S. led policy of 21st century Prohibition creates far more problems and destruction in our communities than it purports to solve.
