Well, I think I rather have it too big and not need it rather than too little and need it.

I'm curious, if you took out pot-related crimes (we don't put people in jail for smoking doobies; in that respect we're eight gazillion times better than the US) I wonder if our crime rate would actually be higher??

Property Crime in Vancouver is a bitch...but Violent crime is pretty low. People who are murdered are usually gang members but there is the odd domestic dispute.

Of course your military can be too big.

If it's bigger than the military might of the rest of the world combined, it's too big. If it's bound to bankrupt you, it's too big. If you start wars just to justify a huge budget, it's too big. If a goodly chunk of your population get boners when Russia and Georgia go at it, it's too big. If you use your military so other countries don't have to use theirs, it's too big.

The size of your military should reflect the size of (real) threats. Yours isn't even close.

Ok, I'll agree the only real limit would be "if it's bound to bankrupt you". Other than that, it can never be too big. Besides, when everyone knows you have the most powerful army- you're less likely to need it.

If that were true, then a country like Canada would have needed her military far more than the US since, say, WWII.

Except that you guys have been in non-stop war since then and we kinda have not.

Go figure.

It is her opinion on things. Another Canadian on the board said that he and most people he knows are completely happy with how they have it.

LOL You never let facts get in your way.

The point is Real don't try to change this country to something it was never meant to be. If you feel another country is better for you just move there and be happy. I have no problem with anyone going to find a better way ti live. Just don't try to change this country to socialism. Thats what they came across the ond for.

What facts? Crime, I know that break ins and that happen up there. I did mean more violent crimes but did not say it. As for being more environmental she is quoting studies that may or may not have reliable sources. In general people are more conscious of environmental issues.

Canada has fought along side the US in many of those "non-stop wars".

:think2: That can't handle the truth was directed towards gtc. I'm the one that said it was her opinion.

Ummm...doubtful.

* Healthier, not really. Our health care system is right fucked. Maybe we don't eat like pigs like many Americans, which helps, but 'healthier' implies a better system, which we don't have.

I'd have to disagree with you X, imo opinion overall health is best measured by life expectancy. Since Canadians live 2-3 years longer I would say they are healthier.

Discovering the best places to live provides inspiration for travel so that we can get a glimpse of highly ranked quality of life. Here’s the top five:

1. Iceland
2. Norway
3. Australia
4. Canada
5. Ireland

The United States fell to 12th on the list.

This is the list for 2007. I know Canada was #1 around 4 years ago and this is the first time I've really ever checked since then. Canada is 8 spots above the USA if that means anything in this debate.

I'm surprised Sweden is not on that top 5 list.

Infant mortality rates can be a judge as well, and guess who leads in that one too?:think2:

Person A prefers Canada > USA, yet lives in USA, what is going on here?

If americans are fat, lazy and stupid, are you part of that group as well? If you really like Canada much better yet you live here, is that smart?

My suggestion, leave... and don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. There are plenty of people trying to risk their lives by swimming here on life rafts that I would much rather share my country with.
