Minneapolis protesters again trash police precinct over George Floyd’s death
For a second consecutive day a group of unruly protesters vandalized a Minneapolis police precinct in a violent demonstration over the death of George Floyd.
Protestors once again targeted the city police department’s 3rd Precinct — where it’s believed the four officers involved in Floyd’s arrest worked — breaking the building’s windows despite a heavy police presence.
Dramatic photos from Tuesday’s protest show one man chucking a medal barricade toward the boarded-up entrance of the precinct.
Other demonstrators hurled rocks at windows, shattering them.
Police in riot gear tried to stem the mayhem by firing tear gas into the crowds, footage shows.
But, similar to Monday night, not everyone in the city protesting Floyd’s death on Tuesday resorted to violence.
At the intersection of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue — where Floyd was pinned down by a white Minneapolis police officer, yelling, “I can’t breathe” before he died — demonstrators peacefully danced to Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day,” according to social media footage.
The FBI, the Department of Justice and Minnesota state authorities are investigating Floyd’s death, which led to the firing of all four officers involved in his arrest.
President Trump on Wednesday night said he asked the feds to “expedite” their probe.
“I have asked for this investigation to be expedited and greatly appreciate all of the work done by local law enforcement,” the president tweeted.
“My heart goes out to George’s family and friends. Justice will be served!” he wrote.
