Minneapolis protesters again trash police precinct over George Floyd’s death

For a second consecutive day a group of unruly protesters vandalized a Minneapolis police precinct in a violent demonstration over the death of George Floyd.

Protestors once again targeted the city police department’s 3rd Precinct — where it’s believed the four officers involved in Floyd’s arrest worked — breaking the building’s windows despite a heavy police presence.

Dramatic photos from Tuesday’s protest show one man chucking a medal barricade toward the boarded-up entrance of the precinct.

Other demonstrators hurled rocks at windows, shattering them.

Police in riot gear tried to stem the mayhem by firing tear gas into the crowds, footage shows.

But, similar to Monday night, not everyone in the city protesting Floyd’s death on Tuesday resorted to violence.

At the intersection of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue — where Floyd was pinned down by a white Minneapolis police officer, yelling, “I can’t breathe” before he died — demonstrators peacefully danced to Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day,” according to social media footage.

The FBI, the Department of Justice and Minnesota state authorities are investigating Floyd’s death, which led to the firing of all four officers involved in his arrest.

President Trump on Wednesday night said he asked the feds to “expedite” their probe.

“I have asked for this investigation to be expedited and greatly appreciate all of the work done by local law enforcement,” the president tweeted.

“My heart goes out to George’s family and friends. Justice will be served!” he wrote.

In the 30 day window around this incident in MN (15 days before & 15 days after) police in the USA will kill 130 civilians.

It is likely reasonable that all but a very few - this one in MN and another few (one or two?)- could be and should be accurately logged as appropriate use of force. As such, there is likely very little mention of those 127 outside of their immediate jurisdictions.

Your post to which I replied asks "why does the media put so much emphasis on the very visible and seemingly criminal "one to three" inappropriate killings?"

Your question infers that "since these type killings are rare, they should not merit such intense media coverage"

My reply stands

It is urgent that the Very Few inappropriate killings of civilians by police be massively covered, exposed and lit up as brightly as possible.

That coverage is not needed for the 127or 128 killings that are in fact legal. It is only needed for cases where there is very probable cause to believe a crime has been committed by police

The alternative is to ignore such crimes and that of course is what leads that small minority of criminal cops to believe they are immune from consequences.

If you personally perceive such scrutiny of police officer conduct to be unwarranted, I will certainly not seek to further persuade you otherwise

This isn't my perception at all and actually quite the opposite.

My point is that we only see the publicity in these instances when it's a white police officer and African American suspect/civilian not with a White/Hispanic suspect etc. I'm all for holding police accountable but when are we going to hold the black community accountable for being 12% of the U.S. population that commits more than half of all murders in America?

Both things are possible correct?

Almost twice as many white people are killed every year by cops than black people....."real world facts".......but we never see any of the white murdered by cop stories anywhere on MSM.

Conspiracy? Something is going on.......oh, & I'm not taking anything away from the Floyd murder, there's absolutely no reason from what we've seen that he should be dead.

Well, not a real fair comparison considering the amount in population differences.

Yes I agree.......but most people don't know that twice as many white people die at the hands of cops because you never see it anywhere on video, or any news media.

And I don't ever remember any white people rioting because a white person had been killed by the cops or for any other reason.

I didn’t know those numbers but I kinda figured given the population breakdown. When these people riot, they lose credibility in my eyes.

The way George Floyd died will probably be considered as voluntary manslaughter......or even involuntary manslaughter.......I don't think they can pin a murder charge.......but they probably will so the city doesn't burn to the ground.

I think it's fine to call the cop who had his knee on the guy's neck for 10 minutes a pig.

But, the dumb fuckers in here who call all cops pigs (and other names) because of the actions of < 1% are just showing the world how utterly stupid they are.

Maybe where youre from is "special" but all cops aren't saints. I know personally 3 or 4 from different areas and theyre cool to have a drink with but also not people I think should be cops either based on the stories they tell me. Cops are all on a fucking power trip by me, Idk what it is about these fuckers but enforcing 'the law' gets distorted into 'i can do whatever I want'. But on the subject at hand id pay money to get the chance to beat the fuck outta that cop his demeanor and smug as kneels on a helpless person makes my blood boil

That is where you are wrong. It is not about population but about interactions with the cops. When you look at that and also the higher population of violent offenders cops deal with you will see white people are killed at a higher rate

I understand what you're saying. 72% of all people that are killed by the police are in fact not black.

Given the fact black people only make up 12% of our population, yet their arrest rate for violent crime exceeds 27%, they are actually getting killed by police at a much lower rate than non-black individuals.

The more we're learning about this death, the worse it looks for the police officer.

Wouldn't want to be the law enforcement officer standing over and watching either

People should fight more often in a regulated environment. It's easy to control people physically if you practice it. Most of these cops are garbage when it comes to hand to hand combat. We have officers who are 220 lbs+ come into the gym on a regular basis and get controlled by 150 lb dudes. Their ego usually can't handle it. Most guys spend hours on the range and almost 0 time grappling - and it shows in these videos. The dudes get real scared when they're met with any sort of resistance because they don't practice.

Yeah that’s good. This should be a part of their retraining.

It comes out of their own pockets too. That’s how you learn.

This cop had 18 prior complaints - everyone in a position above him is demoted or fired - starting with the Chief of Police and the Mayor

True. Agreed. Reform the whole fucking thing.

NYC one time hired someone to be a police officer who had a tattoo of a black person being lynched. True story.
