Another Update
A representative from BetCorp, who wished not to be identified, quickly offered encouraging news to Gambling911.com.
"An announcement will be made first thing Monday morning. There are three suitors, two of whom I am familiar with, one of whom I did not know about. These groups are each looking to take over BetWWTS.com and all other Betcom US facing brands. It is not a matter of if or when this will take place but rather who will ultimately end up taking over."
The representative also wanted to clarify that this is in no way a situation similar to BetonSports, another publicly traded gambling firm that in July shut its doors following the arrest of its CEO. BetonSports is yet to pay a single customer what is owed to them, including initial deposits.
"Gambling911.com readers need to know that we (BetCorp/BetWWTS.com) are in no way another BetonSports," the representative stressed. "We have absolutely zero debt and plenty of money in reserve. Players this weekend will not be able to place bets or withdraw their money. The reason they cannot withdraw is due to the transition period we would be unable to handle the amount of requests this weekend plus the amount of withdrawals could adversely affect any sale. We just want players to hold tight until first thing Monday morning and apologize for this inconvenience."
It is an inconvenience that might be worthwhile however. Sportingbet on Thursday announced the sale of its US facing sports betting companies, including flagship brand Sportsbook.com, to private investors, most of which have longstanding ties with the company. They sold these brands for a mere $1 - talk about a fire sale! Sportsbook.com and some of its sister brands are offering a 15% bonus to existing clients in an effort to show their appreciation for sticking with the company through these questionable times.
The Sportsbook.com promo reads as such:
This weekend only, get an automatic 10% bonus on all deposits, 15% on Neteller and eCheck deposits. Want more? Deposit over $300 this weekend we'll also send you our new 2007 Big Deals desk calendar. All deposits over $1000 will receive a Sportsbook.com poker chip set. To receive these gifts you must register for this promotion.
Something important to point out that, as part of the new privatization, Sportsbook.com and other US facing brands have agreed not to take on Canadian customers. Sportingbet.com will continue to accept these individuals. Paradise Poker, part of the Sportingbet group, will remain with the parent company and no longer accept US customers.
